On behalf of the faculty of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Washington, I would like to welcome you to our Division website. Established in 1985, the Division has over 200 faculty members. As the faculty responsible for primary care in the Department of Medicine, we are justifiably proud that the University of Washington has been the nation's top medical school for primary care medicine for two decades. Every member of the faculty directly or indirectly devotes a substantial amount of time providing the highest caliber health care to patients from all walks of life and all social circumstances and many Division faculty members are recognized as the “Best Doctors in America” and in Seattle.
We provide medical care to outpatients and hospitalized patients in a wide variety of settings including three academic medical centers, several other locations including Pioneer Square and several University of Washington Physicians neighborhood clinics, even in patients’ homes. In addition to being outstanding clinicians, our faculty provides an impressive amount of clinical teaching to medical students and residents and for which they regularly receive numerous prestigious awards. Faculty in the Division have also achieved national prominence for research on a wide variety of important clinical problems such heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, respiratory disease, cancer, diabetes and many others.
