Employment with GIM

General Internal Medicine, established in 1985, has rapidly grown to be the largest Division in the UW Department of Medicine with well over 200 faculty members located at multiple sites around Seattle, including the major medical centers. The Division has been an integral part of the research mission of the University, which ranks third in the nation for total research funding. The breadth and diversity of our Division is apparent and our faculty is united by its dedication to our basic missions of patient care, teaching and research.

Physician Positions

Physician positions are handled directly by General Internal Medicine. Links to details on these opportunities, when available, will appear in the left side menu of this page.

Contact information for each position is available on the respective webpage, and all inquiries should be directed there. If you find you need further assistance, please contact us.

Staff Positions

All staff recruitment is handled through UW Human Resources. Applicants may search for positions and submit their materials through the online system, UWHires. The Division of General Internal Medicine will post positions to UWHires as they become available. Please note, any applications submitted directly to GIM rather than through UWHires cannot be considered.

There are two main classifications of staff positions at UW, Classified (including contract classifed and classified non-union) and Professional. Contract classified staff are covered by a labor contract (collective bargaining agreement) that specifies how a person is paid and how a position can be evaluated for possible reclassification. Classified non-union staff are covered by civil service rules that specify how a person is paid and how a position can be evaluated for possible reclassification. See the Classified Staff Compensation webpage for detailed information about classified compensation programs and options.

The University's Professional Staff Program defines the terms and conditions of employment for professional staff employees. The compensation section of the program describes how a salary rate is determined for professional staff positions.
