Thomas Payne honored with the UWMC Chief of Medicine Service Award

The UWMC Chief of Medicine Service Award was established in 2012 to recognize department of medicine faculty members who have contributed significantly to the clinical and scholarly missions of the University of Washington Medical Center.

The awards recognize one outpatient and one inpatient-based clinician who have made outstanding contributions in direct clinical care, innovations in quality improvement and health delivery, consistently exhibit excellence in clinical teaching, and produce high quality scholarly works related to patient care.

The inaugural awards were presented to Dr. Thomas Payne, and Dr. Terry Gernsheimer. Dr. Payne is a clinical associate professor of Medicine (General Internal Medicine), Health Services, and Medical Education & Biomedical Informatics, and medical director, Information Technology Services. Dr. Gernsheimer is a professor of medicine (Hematology), director of medical education, Puget Sound Blood Center, and PSBC director of medical transfusion services at UWMC. The awards were presented by Dr. Brad Anawalt, UWMC Chief of Medicine.
