National Institute of Health (Instituto Nacional de Sa\u00fade (INS)) Mozambique- National NCD Programme – Chronic Disease Determinant Programme (PDDC)<\/a><\/h2>\n

The National Institute of Health (INS) created the Chronic Disease Determinant Program (PDDC) to respond to the challenges related to research, epidemiological surveillance and extension in Mozambique. The PDDC defined the objective of contributing to the creation of scientific evidence in the area of \u200b\u200bprevention, diagnosis and control of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) through the promotion and implementation of epidemiological, clinical, basic research and operational support.<\/p>\n

Dhulikhel Heart Study<\/a><\/h2>\n

This is a cohort study of the adult population of Dhulikhel Municipality of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors. Primary collaborators are faculty from the University of Washington and Dhulikhel Hospital, in Nepal. The project started in 2013 with initial funding from Dhulikhel Hospital and is ongoing.<\/p>\n

Cardiac Surgery and Capacity Building in Rwanda<\/a><\/h2>\n

In collaboration with team heart and operation giving back, this program aims to assist Rwanda in becoming a self-sustaining cardiac care regional center while also educating the population, rural and urban, on the causes and treatment of rheumatic heart disease.<\/p>\n

Disease Control Priorities Project<\/a><\/h2>\n

The Disease Control Priorities is a multi-year project funded in 2010 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. From 2010 \u2013 2017, it was led by the University of Washington, which coordinated two key strategies to promote and support the use of economic evaluation for priority setting at both global and national levels: strengthening local capacity for evidence-based decision making and publishing the Disease Control Priorities, 3rd edition (DCP3) evidence and model packages. In 2018, the DCP3 Country Translation project (DCP3 CTP) was initiated to respond to the need for evidence and technical support in priority setting, economic evaluation, and developing\/revising and implementing UHC packages of health services in low and middle-income countries. The DCP3 Country Translation project is hosted at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). It is currently collaborating with a number of pilot countries in the area of priority setting, development and implementation of UHC Essential Packages of Health Services.<\/p>\n

Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME)<\/a><\/h2>\n

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is a research institute working in the area of global health statistics and impact evaluation at the University of Washington. The Institute is headed by Christopher J.L. Murray, a physician and health economist, and professor at the University of Washington Department of Global Health. IHME conducts research and trains scientists, policymakers, and the public in health metrics concepts, methods, and tools. Its mission includes judging the effectiveness and efficacy of health initiatives and national health systems. IHME also trains students at the post-baccalaureate and post-graduate levels. Dr. Greg Roth leads cardiovascular disease modeling for the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation\u2019s landmark Global Burden of Disease Study. Dr. Roth and his team focus on global cardiovascular health surveillance, health disparities, population health, quality of care, and outcomes for cardiovascular diseases.<\/p>\n

Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD)<\/a><\/h2>\n

The Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) is a comprehensive regional and global research program of disease burden that assesses mortality and disability from major diseases, injuries, and risk factors.The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) approach endeavors to measure disability and death from a multitude of causes worldwide. It has grown over the past two decades into an international consortium of nearly 5,500 researchers, and its estimates are being updated annually. Under principal investigator Christopher J.L. Murray, GBD is based out of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation<\/p>\n

Cardiovascular Health Research Unit (CHRU)<\/a><\/h2>\n

The Cardiovascular Health Research Unit (CHRU) is a joint program of the UW\u2019s Department of Medicine, Divisions of Cardiology and General Internal Medicine, and Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute. Investigators at the CHRU aim to develop and apply knowledge in order to prevent morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases. Through the collaborative efforts of organizations and researchers based locally, nationally, and internationally, CHRU projects develop innovative approaches not only to the discovery of new biology through biomarkers and genomics, but also to the evaluation of prevention and treatment for cardiovascular disorders. CHRU projects bridge medicine and public health to improve the cardiovascular health of the public.<\/p>\n

HLB SIMPLe Consortium<\/a><\/h2>\n

Heart, Lung, and Blood Co-morbiditieS Implementation Models in People Living with HIV (HLB SIMPLe)” (UG3\/UH3), which proposes late-stage implementation research strategies to optimally and sustainably deliver proven-effective prevention and treatment interventions for heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) comorbid diseases and disorders in people living with HIV (PLHIV) in sub-Saharan Africa. Key research in this consortium is to identify strategies to achieve sustainable uptake of proven-effective interventions in routine clinical, public health, and community-based settings and maximize the positive impact on population health. The Consortium promotes collaboration and communication among investigators and the broader research community.<\/p>\n
