Dr. Brandon Guthrie discusses other countries\u2019 reopening strategies and lessons learned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since May 2020, the <strong>COVID-19 Literature Situation Report<\/strong>, an initiative led by the <a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealth.washington.edu\/uwmetacenter\">UW MetaCenter for Pandemic Preparedness and Global Health Security<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/uwstartcenter.org\/\">START Center<\/a> focused on the needs of public health professionals in Washington State, has released daily newsletters that provide a succinct summary of the latest scientific literature related to the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0 Behind the scenes, Drs.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealth.washington.edu\/faculty\/brandon-guthrie\">Brandon Guthrie<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/globalhealth.washington.edu\/faculty\/jennifer-ross\">Jennifer Ross<\/a> of the Department of Global Health are leading a team of faculty and students from the Schools of Public Health and Medicine to release these reports every day.\u00a0 The report includes brief, concise summarizes of 10-15 articles that they judge to have the highest public health relevance, along with additional links to pertinent commentaries and other resources.<\/p>\n<p>In July, the team compiled a list of countries and their school reopening strategies for the WA State Department of Health.\u00a0 As school districts across the U.S. struggle with how, or even if, to reopen schools in time for the new academic year, these reports offer lessons learned from other countries that may inform plans for school reopening.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Guthrie and his team are quoted and interviewed in several national news outlets to discuss the data.\u00a0 Read the full stories below.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/07\/11\/health\/coronavirus-schools-reopen.html\">How to Reopen Schools: What Science and Other Countries Teach Us<\/a> \u2013 The New York Times (July 12, 2020)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/jul\/14\/school-reopenings-what-can-the-us-learn-from-other-countries-experiences?\">School reopenings: what can the US learn from other countries&#8217; experiences?<\/a> \u2013 The Guardian (July 14, 2020)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2020\/7\/15\/21324082\/coronavirus-school-reopening-trump-children-safety\">The key lesson from school openings abroad: Contain the virus<\/a> \u2013 Vox (July 15, 2020)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/minnesota.cbslocal.com\/video\/4631386-good-question-what-can-overseas-teach-us\/\">Schools in other countries have opened during the pandemic, are there any lessons we can learn from overseas?<\/a> \u2013 WCCO-TV CBS affiliate (July 16, 2020)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbur.org\/onpoint\/2020\/07\/22\/classrooms-safe-for-pandemic\">Can Schools Open Safely During A Pandemic?
