{"id":15683,"date":"2021-06-16T12:20:40","date_gmt":"2021-06-16T19:20:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/?p=15683"},"modified":"2026-04-07T13:49:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T20:49:28","slug":"global-wach-welcomes-new-implementation-science-faculty-hires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/2021\/06\/16\/global-wach-welcomes-new-implementation-science-faculty-hires\/","title":{"rendered":"Global WACh welcomes new Implementation Science faculty hires"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are thrilled to officially announce our <strong>new faculty in Implementation Science<\/strong>!\u00a0 These outstanding candidates from our faculty search in Fall 2020 bring valuable skills, research and training experience, and talents to positively contribute to advance our Center\u2019s mission to make scientific discoveries, cultivate leaders, and bridge disciplines to advance the tightly connected health and well-being of women, adolescents, and children.<\/p>\n<p>They will lead and grow the footprint of implementation science within our Center and we are eager to collaborate with them on current and future research and training endeavors.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-15689\" src=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Arianna-Means-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Arianna-Means-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Arianna-Means-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Arianna-Means-375x374.jpg 375w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Arianna-Means-50x50.jpg 50w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Arianna-Means.jpg 682w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Arianna Means, PhD \u2013 Assistant Professor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Dr. Means was previously an Acting Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Health.\u00a0 She received her Master\u2019s degree in epidemiology and her PhD in global health implementation science from the University of Washington.\u00a0 Her research interests include using implementation science methods to effectively deliver evidence-based interventions to improve child health and survival, with a focus on soil-transmitted helminths and other neglected tropical diseases.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Means is the principal investigator of six studies, with collaborators based in Benin, India, Malawi, and Kenya.\u00a0 She collaborates closely with Ministries of Health, the WHO, and other partners to develop tools that can be used in routine public health programs.\u00a0 She also serves as an implementation science methodologist with collaborators throughout the Schools of Public Health and Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Means is passionate about teaching and mentoring. She is the instructor for the eDGH Fundamentals of Implementation Science course, co-director of the UW Implementation Science Summer Intensive course, and co-instructs the School of Public Health\u2019s Qualitative and Mixed Methods course (PHI513).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-15676\" src=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Ferdinand-Mukumbang-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Ferdinand-Mukumbang-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Ferdinand-Mukumbang-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Ferdinand-Mukumbang-375x375.jpg 375w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Ferdinand-Mukumbang-50x50.jpg 50w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Ferdinand-Mukumbang.jpg 601w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Ferdinand Mukumbang, PhD \u2013 Acting Assistant Professor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mukumbang is a Public Health Scientist specializing in health policy and systems research with a focus on implementation sciences. \u00a0He has a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Nursing Sciences, a Master\u2019s degree in Nursing Education, and another Master\u2019s in Philosophy in the Management of HIV. \u00a0He obtained his Ph.D. in Public Health in 2018 from the School of Public Health, University of the Western Cape, South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The recent grants he has worked on include household-focused HIV interventions that can address various aspects of household HIV competency supported by the Belgian Development Cooperation, through VLIR-UOS (Grant ZA2018TEA474A102). \u00a0He also worked on a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention acquired grant (NU2GGH002193-01-00) through the South African Medical Research Council on evaluating models designed to enhance retention in HIV care and adherence of pre-exposure HIV prophylaxis among adolescent girls in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mukumbang has experience in teaching Public Health-related courses at the Honors and Master\u2019s level and supervising Masters and Ph.D. thesis. \u00a0He is particularly interested in the development and adoption of Critical Realist research methods for evidence-based theorizing in health care and global health. \u00a0He has published about 40 articles in international peer-review journals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-15688\" src=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Anjuli-Wagner-2-e1624561966926-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Anjuli-Wagner-2-e1624561966926-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Anjuli-Wagner-2-e1624561966926-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Anjuli-Wagner-2-e1624561966926-375x375.jpg 375w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Anjuli-Wagner-2-e1624561966926-50x50.jpg 50w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/globalwach\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Anjuli-Wagner-2-e1624561966926.jpg 571w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Anjuli Wagner, PhD \u2013 Assistant Professor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Wagner was previously an Acting Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Health and has been working in Kenya for 11 years.
