Glossary

Acquired: not present at birth, but developing later

Congenital: present at birth

Macrocephaly: excessive size of the head, most often more than two standard deviations above the mean

Microcephaly: excessively small head size, most often more than two standard deviations below the mean

Standard deviation: a measure of the amount of variation among the values of a variable in a population
