| Abstract: | An edition and extensive study, with musical transcriptions, of traditional wedding songs collected by A. in Morocco, between 1949 and 1953; both literary and linguistic aspects of the texts are treated; indices and a glossary are included. Texts representing nueve romance themes are edited and discussed: Pretendiente burlado, Lavandera de San Juan, Raquel lastimosa, ¿Por qué no cantáis la bella?, Conde Alarcos (pp. 242-247, 302-303, 331-336). | Abstract: | This collection consists of 84 ballad texts, representing 73 different narrative types, collected by Zarita Nahón in the Jewish community of Tangier in 1929. Several text-types which have never been printed before or which have been known only in a very limited number of published variants are included. Other texts offer variants of well known narratives which supplement our knowledge of the traditional life of the ballads in question. Each text-type is accompanied by a bibliography of published variants and a study relating it to the Sephardic, Pan-Hispanic, and Pan-European ballad traditions. Thc book includes seven musicological transcriptions with commentary by Israel J. Katz. A thematic classification, bibliography, indices of ballad titles and first verses, and a glossary of dialect forms and Hebrew and Arabic words are also provided.

| Abstract: | Se trata de una esmerada y bien equilibrada antología de 93 romances tradicionales--texto y transcripción musical de 170 versiones-- recogidos por W.-S. en Israel entre 1976 y 1994 de informantes sefardíes llegados de Marruecos. La introducción (págs. 9-34) incluye importantes observaciones sobre los textos, sus tipos melódicos y el contexto social en que nacieron y en el que han sobrevivido, pese a las circunstancias (ora únicas, ora compartidas con otras ramas de la tradición) que amenazan su continuidad más allá de la generación de los actuales informantes. Véase también las comparaciones entre el romancero marroquí y la tradición sefardí de Oriente (21-22), y con la tradición pan-hispánica (22-24: temas compartidos, temas raros, temas transformados o desaparecidos en la península, etc.). D. M. ofrece tras cada tema un breve comentario en que relaciona el texto sefardí con las otras manifestaciones y ramas de la tradición romancística pan-hispánica.
