All in the Family: The Cultural Politics of American Liberalism in Crisis

All in the Family  tells the familiar story of the collapse of American liberalism in the 1960s and 1970s through the lens of gender, sexuality, and the family. The political fights over welfare, the War on Poverty, black power, feminisms, Vietnam, and the role of the state in national life forced a reconsideration of, and precipitated a loss of faith in, the traditional male breadwinner. The talk will be drawn from the book.
