I study the Chinese community in the Republic of Vietnam (1955 - 1975), using a socio-cultural approach. Through their everyday lives, I explore an ethnic minority's struggles with the tensions of living in a nation-state, and their engagement with a greater transnational Chinese community, within the context of the Cold War.
