Pacific Northwest Botanical Artists show and sale
The Pacific
Northwest Botanical Artists present their
8th annual exhibit at the library through May 2, 2015. Artwork,
prints, and cards will be for sale, with a portion of the sales
benefiting the
library. PNBA, a chapter of the American Society of Botanical Artists,
is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting public awareness
of contemporary botanical art, to honoring its traditions, and to
furthering
its development. This year PNBA has
invited members of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators Northwest
to join
the exhibit. For more information about PNBA and the Guild, please
visit www.pnba-artists.com and www.gnsinw.org.

Propagation resources featured
Visit the display area near our north windows to browse a wealth of propagation books. You'll find hands-on guides like Henry Kock's Growing Trees from Seed alongside thought-provoking investigations such as Amy Stewart's Flower Confidential, an in-depth look at the ways cut flowers are propagated, grown, and sold around the world. These are resources worth borrowing!
Recommended: The Manual of Plant Grafting by Peter T. MacDonald
The Manual of Plant
Grafting is an excellent new handbook for all aspects of this important
propagation technique. Subjects include
the history and uses of grafting, methods for producing rootstock and scions,
best timing practices, and the pros and cons of bench or field grafting. Learn how to graft vegetables for better
crops. For fun, try your gloved hand at
creating fanciful cactus combinations!
