It is a sunny warm spot (for Seattle), but I think disease<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>resistance is a must. What is a source for disease resistant roses<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>for our climate? Also, does growing clematis on a climbing rose limit its disease<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>resistance?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The reason that clematis and rose make good companions has to do with the<br \/>\nrose providing the structure the clematis needs, and the pairing allowing<br \/>\nfor interesting combinations of color and shape, rather than one<br \/>\nproviding disease resistance to the other.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, the most disease-resistant roses are species roses, but there<br \/>\nare additional choices.<\/p>\n<p>This list from Pacific Northwest Pest managment Handbook lists <a href=\"https:\/\/pnwhandbooks.org\/plantdisease\/cultivar-tables\/rose-cultivar-resistance\">resistant roses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This article from Washington State University Extension is entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/sjcmastergardeners.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/06\/disease-resistant-roses-for-the-puget-sound-area.pdf\">&#8220;Disease-Resistant Roses for the Puget Sound Area.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are several excellent books on growing roses in our area:<\/p>\n<p>North Coast Roses : For the Maritime Northwest Gardener by Rhonda Massingham Hart (Seattle : Sasquatch Books, c1993)<\/p>\n<p>Jackson &amp; Perkins Beautiful Roses Made Easy : Northwestern Edition by Teri<br \/>\nDunn &amp; Ciscoe Morris.
