I just acquired one that had<br \/>\nbeen potted up as a bonsai and put on sale at a local grocery store. I think<br \/>\nthey may not have known or cared what it was. This is a plant I<br \/>\ngrew outdoors when I lived in California. I&#8217;m wondering what to do<br \/>\nwith it in Vancouver, WA. The options are greenhouse, patio pot,<br \/>\nindoors, outdoors.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I found general cultural information from <a href=\"http:\/\/edis.ifas.ufl.edu\/pdffiles\/FP\/FP61800.pdf\">Florida State University<br \/>\nCooperative Extension.<\/a> This is a zone 9b-11 plant, and your area is probably about zone 8, so I think you would want to grow this with some protection.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubcbotanicalgarden.org\/forums\/showthread.php?t=19894\">University of British Columbia Botanical Garden&#8217;s<\/a> discussion forum describes this as an indoor plant. <a href=\"http:\/\/ag.arizona.edu\/maricopa\/garden\/html\/pubs\/0203\/ask.html\">This article<\/a> in the journal of University of Arizona Cooperative Extension is about a similar plant, <em>Zamioculcas zamiifolia,<\/em> often confused with <em>Zamia<br \/>\nfurfuracea.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Richard Langer&#8217;s book, <em>Grow It Indoors<\/em> (Stackpole Books, 1995) says to<br \/>\ngrow this &#8220;handy table-sized cycad&#8221; in temperate partial sun with humusy<br \/>\nsoil that is kept constantly moist.<\/p>\n<p>Another thing to keep in mind if you are growing this plant around pets<br \/>\nor small children is its toxicity. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspca.org\/pet-care\/animal-poison-control\/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants\/cardboard-palm\">The ASPCA<\/a> lists Zamia species (cardboard palm) as toxic. Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital lists <a href=\"https:\/\/csuvth.colostate.edu\/poisonous_plants\/Plants\/Details\/124\">Zamia <\/a> as toxic to dogs and people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am interested in finding out if someone there can tell me the proper culture for Zamia furfuracea.
