You can download the USDA&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/plants.usda.gov\/home\/downloads\">Complete Plant List<\/a>. You can search for plants by scientific or common name here as well.<\/p>\n<p>2. The <a href=\"https:\/\/npgsweb.ars-grin.gov\/gringlobal\/taxon\/taxonomyquery.aspx\">GRIN database<\/a> (also maintained by the USDA) offers several searching options and provides information on changes for each plant retrieved.<\/p>\n<p>3. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipni.org\/\">International Plant Names Index<\/a> also allows you to search for plants by scientific name; in addition, you can search for publications.<\/p>\n<p>4. Here are two more name databases for plants in various parts of the world: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plantnames.unimelb.edu.au\/Sorting\/Frontpage.html\"><br \/>\nMultilingual Multiscript Plant Name Database<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/rbg-web2.rbge.org.uk\/FE\/fe.html#form\">Flora Europaea<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>5. Missouri Botanical Garden&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tropicos.org\/\">Tropicos<\/a> website is another source of information on changes to plant names.<\/p>\n<p>6. The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew maintains <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theplantlist.org\/\">The Plant List: A Working List of All Plant Species<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>7. Here are two links to more information about taxonomy.<\/p>\n<p>Kew Gardens has information about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kew.org\/read-and-watch\/an-introduction-to-plant-names\">why plants change their names<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The (now archived)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190405131200\/http:\/\/www.hortax.org.uk\/\"> Horticultural Taxonomy Group (HORTAX)<\/a> was set up in 1988, with the objective of providing a forum for taxonomists and horticulturists in the British Isles who have an interest in the taxonomy and nomenclature of cultivated plants.<\/p>\n<p>8. There is a journal called <em>Taxon<\/em>, available <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/journal\/19968175\">online<\/a> to subscribers, and available to Miller Library patrons using the library&#8217;s computers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is there an online resource for tracking updates in plant taxonomy?
