{"id":9432,"date":"2022-12-20T16:51:52","date_gmt":"2022-12-20T16:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/hprc\/?p=9432"},"modified":"2026-04-03T01:38:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T01:38:03","slug":"rossey-2022-a-year-in-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/hprc\/rossey-2022-a-year-in-review\/","title":{"rendered":"ROSSEY 2022: A Year In Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The ROSSEY Project supports a safe, confident return to classrooms during COVID-19.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>PROJECT OVERVIEW:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-3\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>With your help, in 2022 we:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Talked to school staff, parents, and students about thoughts and questions related to&nbsp; COVID-19 testing and vaccinations.<\/li>\n<li>Completed first set of surveys for K-5<sup>th<\/sup> graders.<\/li>\n<li>Started enrolling families with students in early learning (pre-kindergarten).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 2023, we plan to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Send three comic books to students and two videos to parents. Comic #1 is pictured here!<\/li>\n<li>Send out a second survey in Spring 2023 to gather your thoughts and experiences on COVID-19 now.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/hprc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/ROSSEY3-pic1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9434\" width=\"229\" height=\"350\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The ReOpening Schools Safely and Educating Youth (ROSSEY) project is a partnership between the Yakima School District, the Center for Community Health Promotion, and the University of Washington. Together, we\u2019re hoping to provide information about COVID-19 to help students continue to stay safe at school. We\u2019d like to share what we\u2019ve learned so far!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">WHO IS PARTICIPATING<\/h2>\n<p>There are 685 Yakima School District students and 520 parents who are helping us understand their concerns about COVID-19 testing, vaccinations, and returning to school.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Students<\/h3>\n<p>Participating students were 54% female, 79% Hispanic, 15.6% White, 1% Native American, and 4% were Black, Asians, or provided another answer.
