Lab Services


HS Laboratory Services provides instructional and research support for the Health Sciences.

Laboratory Services provides the following:

  • Sterilization of biohazardous waste, media solutions and lab supplies, or materials needed for cell culture work. More Info
  • Preparation of media, such as buffers, stains, broths, reagents and Agar for teaching and research purposes. More Info
  • Sterilization of lab glassware for teaching and research labs. More Info
  • Management of Vendor-contracted Collection Service for Biohazardous/Regulated Waste. More Info
  • Health Sciences laboratory course support:
    • HS Laboratory Services helps instructors be compliant in safety standards and policies
    • In coordination with service partners, maintains T-wing lab teaching spaces
    • Coordinates with instructors for teaching and laboratory needs
    • Maintains teaching supplies and equipment for Health Sciences laboratory courses

What’s New?

  • UW Recycling, UW Sustainability, and the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences have created a new Lab Recycling Guide to help lab members decide whether or not some of their lab materials are eligible for recycling. Labs can print the Guide and post it in conspicuous areas, such as over recycling bins. The Green Labs team can also print the Guide upon request – just email them at
  • Washington State recently implemented the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) adoption of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). (EH&S Training)
