I think that we all know that climate change ties into affecting the severity of weather, and how it has worsened in the past decade. The recent hurricane season has increased my concern for climate change as Hurricane Milton and Helene were within about half a month apart from each other. As well as the above average amount of rainfall during hurricanes. This was caused by the extra CO2 released that is warming the atmosphere indirectly causing excessive rainfall and ultimately devastating flooding.

There are many effects like hotter temperatures, higher health risks, global warming, increase of droughts, and more severe storms. Because of higher temperatures some areas have experienced hot days and heat waves as well, which makes it hard to move and work. Another one is higher health risks. Diseases can spread due to the changes of weather, and not only that but because of the extreme weather, it can increase the number of deaths. This makes it hard for health care workers to keep up. Global warming is another effect, because our ocean absorbs heat, which causes sheets of ice to melt and endangers marine life due to the carbon dioxide that the ocean absorbs as well. Fourthly, is the increase in droughts. This can is a big threat to our environment because deserts are expanding, which is taking up the amount of space for growing food and plants. Droughts can also transfer tons of sand and dust across continents due to the sandstorms. Because it's so hot and dry, there isn't much water resource which is a big threat to humans. Lastly, more severe storms. Due to the changes in temperature, this has caused many floods and landslides destroying many homes.

We know that extreme and abnormal weather patterns are a result of climate change. But I think it's important for people to know why and how. When CO2 is released into the air, it warms our atmosphere, therefore warming the planet. When our planet heats up, it makes sense that it would cause more droughts, and dryer climate. While it doesn't seem like it, it also causes more rainfall and changes in wind patterns. When the ocean temperature rises, it makes the water able to evaporate easier. This causes water to go into the atmosphere, and eventually turn into rain.

i’ve noticed recently that the weather where i live is changing at a rapid rate due to climate change. i think this is really noticeable because it has been flooding when it rains and the summers have been longer with more frequent heat waves and hotter weather. vancouver’s changing climate has also meant that it’s been snowing later and later every year as global warming has gotten worse. these weather effects have really put in perspective how serious climate change is and how badly it can affect the earths environment.

I noticed that climate change is becoming a big problem, because of increasing temperatures. last  summer it was hot with very high temperatures in my hometown. some  days  there were strong floods, creating landslides not far from where i live because of the very high temperatures and some plants in my garden dried up.

I think this is visible where I live as well. I feel like being able to really see the effects of climate change where you live can be really impactful, and hopefully will drive people to taking stronger action against the climate crisis. Recently, we have experienced hurricanes back-to-back that left impactful damages to our homes and cities. As climate change continues to worsen, we are feeling greater and greater effects of it. Weather has grown not only overall warmer but less predictable as well. In the United States, specifically Florida, I have seen greater devastation grow more frequent as the years go on. While there are roughly the same amount of storms as previous seasons, they grow more dangerous and powerful every year, causing greater risk to life and property, even as our methods of protecting life and property improve, the cost of damages has increased dramatically over time.

The weather is changing a lot because of Global warming. The climate is changing and it is getting hotter. This is mostly caused by the greenhouse effect. It is scientifically molecules that are uneven are getting heat and holding the heat and they move around like particles. The CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) levels in the air change how plants “breathe”. Plants “breathe” through the Stomata. These are the microscopic pores that plants take in CO2 through, in turn, releasing H2O (water) and O2 (Oxygen) into the atmosphere. These pores are then affected by the CO2 levels in the air, with higher concentrations leading to the closing of these pores. This leads to plants keeping in more H2O, meaning they release less into the atmosphere.
Subsequently, this affects rainfall patterns. Researchers note, “the reduction in water released by stomata through transpiration will result in changing rainfall patterns across the tropics.” (Asher). Although it changes the rainfall patterns, it has drastically different effects depending on the location. For example, in South America, rainfall patterns are influenced heavily by the amount of moisture released from plants. Meaning, that if plants retain moisture, it could lead to longer and deeper droughts. Forests in Indonesia, for example, are surrounded by humid air, and warm oceans. Reduced transpiration would mean that more warm air rises, which draws in the ocean's moistened air, leading to heavy rainfall. Researchers concluded that although their models lead to a dryer South America, and a wetter Indonesia, it is impossible to predict exactly what will happen.
Other researchers argue the claims of this study, even though the average of all models used predict the same thing. Douglas Sheil, a tropical forest ecologist at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, points out that climate models are known for being poor at accurately predicting the water cycle. “Personally… I don't think [the study conclusion] is convincing.” (Sheil). But, even with his disagreements, he still agrees that the study addresses an important issue.

I 100% agree. In Maine we didn’t have any snow during Christmas and now it’s spring and we’re about to get dumped on with predictions of 2 feet of snow. I agree! We burn about 40.9 million tons of fossil fuels each year, and we've been burning fossil fuels all the way since the 1800s (of course, the yearly emissions have increased a lot since then). With these emissions, we're releasing so much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, leading to the air and oceans to warm. The warming of the air and oceans increases the rate of land and sea ice melting, leading to a rise in sea level. With the rising of the sea level, we're going to see a lot more coastal "high-tide" flooding, as well as flooding cities through inlets and rivers. On the flip side, as the earth warms, drier climates (including, not limited to deserts) are going to get drier. The hotter air will lead to more evaporation of water from the ground, and droughts get more severe.

Did you guys notice that it has been so hot lately? It is just April and I could die of heat. AC are on everywhere I go. But, why is this? The reason is because of GLOBAL WARMING. It is is the long-term heating of Earth's surface observed since the pre-industrial period (between 1850 and 1900) due to human activities, primarily fossil fuel burning, which increases heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in Earth's atmosphere. Because of global warming, many animals are dying. The polar bears in North Pole are dying because of the heat. The ice that they are living on are slowly melting. In a few decades, or even less, they are going to be no ice. They are all just going to die!

The polar bears are not just going to be the target of global warming. We, humans, are also going to be targets. This is because in a few decades, the temperature on Earth might be 50 degrees or more. Can humans survive this temperature? I don't think so. Maybe humans can't even survive 40 degrees. Don't say that this is not possible. These few days in Taiwan are 30 degrees. It is only April!!! So maybe next few years will actually be 40 degrees!

Global warming is actually a cycle. First, people invented the AC because it gets too hot during the summer. When people used it in the summer, the inside stays cold, but in contrast, hot air will be released into the atmosphere. Slowly over time, it gets hotter and hotter everywhere around the world. Humans can't stand a little hot, so they will turn on the AC. So it goes on and on and on. Until maybe the winter won't be cold anymore. No more spring, fall, or winter. Summer all year!

In conclusion, global warming is a serious issue on Earth. If we don't fix this problem, we are all going to die. You can reduce this issue by saving energy, such as using fans instead of AC or turn off the light if you are not using it. You can also walk to places if they are close to your location or prevent driving cars and take public transportation with many more people. You can stop wasting food and reduce, reuse, and recycle. By accomplishing these steps, you will not only make a huge change to yourself, but also a huge change to the world.

I agree with you but I think that recycling isn't the only reason for extreme weather. 1.3 billion metric tons of CO2 emissions are generated annually when the trash that could be recycled goes into landfills. Based off this drastically high number you would think this could be a leading cause of the extreme weather, but really a lot of different CO2 emissions weigh into it, not just people not recycling. I think if we are trying to stop or slow down these weather events there are a lot of other measures we could also take. Some examples are, taking a bike or electric car compared to gas cars, eat less meat & dairy, and reduce your energy usage.

Yes, while this is true it does not fully affect the climate. This may make a change but in the long run it will take a lot more then just recycling. It does have a massive foot print on climate change but so does things such as over heating houses, and heating a house when it is not needed. With things like driving and flying have a huge foot print. So while recycling more will help it will not be a fix to climate change.

Severe weather conditions can hurt the environment, people, and businesses, among other things. Exactly. An example would be here in Maine we have had 3 hundred year storms. These storms happen once every hundred years and we’ve had 3 in just under 4 months. All the extra co2 in the air is causing these storms.

Your post made me think about a government program (I think a state of California one) that gives rain gauges to private citizens.  This allows individuals to monitor and report data on local scales, which of course are the scales at which people actually live!  This is crucial, because current climate models don't translate well down to local scales. 

So participating in programs like these allow citizens to engage in important scientific data gathering that will improve our "collective knowledge", as you say Miguel.

extreme weather is influenced by climate change. For example the amount of rain in the sky is due to ice caps melting and more water getting released which in turn make rain more heavy and more dangerous. Another example is droughts which have been increasing at an alarming rate due to the fact that water is getting sparce in some areas and the heat from the sun is increasing due to greenhouse gas emmisions.

Yes, unfortunately carbon emissions have caused the average temperature to increase by 1 degree Celsius from the pre-industrial age. Though this may seem insignificant, a 1 degree increase in temperature is actually a extremely big deal. If the average temperature of Earth were to increase by another .5 Celcius, there may be more frequent heat waves and other natural disasters. Furthermore, ice glaciers could melt and cause flooding to many coastal areas. In short, small amounts of average temperature changes can create significant impacts to the weather.

Is this really something that can be fixed? Weather is a huge problem all around the world right now because of climate change, sure we can lower all of our carbon emissions in hopes of slowing climate change. I agree our weather is changing fairly quickly due to climate change,  Over here in California where i live it’s been warm even during the fall the hot weather barely stopped about a week or so ago.   But all we can probably do is lower our  carbon emissions in hopes to slow down the climate change even just a little bit.

I have observed similar things, the weather is becoming more and more unpredictable every year. This year in California, the weather has been continuously warm through all of September and October which is extremely strange compared to last year, when it was storming constantly. This is due to our usage of fuel and our carbon footprint as humans; to emit greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, thus warming and moistening the air, we are tilting our nonlinear climate system towards greater intermittent instability. So, if you notice great changed in weather where you live, the increasing carbon footprint is likely responsible.

I am also observing drastic changes in the climate here in Spain. This autumn has been extremely warm, with temperatures above normal for this time of year. It has barely rained in the last few months. The heat and drought have caused severe forest fires in some areas of the country.

Experts warn that these atypical conditions are due to climate change and that we can expect increasingly hotter summers and milder winters in the future. Heat waves will become more frequent and intense. This will have serious consequences for our agriculture, forests and water resources.

I believe governments must take urgent action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But we also need to adapt already to the impacts that are inevitable. Policies are needed to better manage water scarcity, protect coastal areas from rising sea levels, care for our forests against fires, etc. The citizens can also contribute, for example by reducing our energy consumption. This is a global challenge that requires action at all levels.

I also agree with this. The main cause of these historically bad floods and major glaciers melting is climate change. Because of the on and off torrential downpours our sea levels are rising at a historical rate. The reasons there are rising are not only because of the rain but also because of the glaciers melting. Our spring and summer season are extremely hot because of climate change and winters are shorter. This is causing rapid melting of the glaciers. Many people are dying each year because of floods and the cost of fixing a flood damage is mind boggling. I totally agree with everything being said... climate change and global warming is the cause to villages being destroyed and brought to rubble. I feel as if we, as a community tried to limit the amount of resources or at least be more mindful about how we use the things we have access to, then we could make an impact, even if it's minor. For instance, people should start using their air conditioning services only when absolutely necessary for any health issues or due to extreme weather. Another thing people could change is the way they shop for clothes, instead of buying new clothes, maybe thrift them and buy them (lightly) used, as a way to conserve the amount of machinery needed to produce material for clothing, which harms the environment entirely. Clothing is a big factor to climate change and global warming due to the high amount of carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere when the clothes are being produced... diminishing these actions could greatly impact not only humans, but animals that are going extinct due to the inhabitable environments that are being changed to submit to human needs. Small things like this, that most people could afford to acclimate to could greatly and positively impact our Earth and how the small villages, as you were talking about, can stay safe from any natural disasters agitated by climate change.

I agree with everything that has been said. Climate change and global warming had a big effect on United States and other countries. Drought conditions have impacted numerous of Southern and Midwestern states. There was a massive damage to the field crops from lack of rainfall. Ranchers had to sell off their livestock due to the high feeding cost. The drought also made the Mississippi river experience low water levels, with in the end impacted the water quality in Southern Louisiana. There was also a big hurricane near Keaton Beach, Florida. This hurricane, also known as Idalia, caused heavy damage to homes, businesses, vehicles, Etc.

This increased warming of the earth causes weather events (hurricanes, droughts, heat waves, etc.) that already have a bad effect on the planet to worsen and fall outside of normal patterns. They are becoming longer and more frequent due to the effects of climate change. By reducing your carbon footprint, it lessens the severity of these events and lowers the impact on communities.

Every year, California experiences extreme wildfires that greatly impact the environment and everyone in it. These wildfires seem to get worse and more frequent each year. Even though the fires are mainly in the mountains and forested areas, where I live, in the valley, every summer, there will be a few weeks where the air is completely toxic due to smoke from all the wildfires. The smoke is thick and heavy. You can't even go outside without your eyes stinging and your throat being coated with smoke. The areas where the fires are happening have it even worse. This is a big problem that needs to be fixed. The fires pollute the atmosphere, burn down wildlife, and kill animals and humans. This will only get worse as climate change worsens. I think climate change is a big factor in our weather. It happens when we have a lot of carbon dioxide  and waste we punch a hole in the O zone layer.

Unfortunately, extreme weather that used to be fairly rare, is now something that is becoming increasingly more normal and common in the world. Examples of extreme weather are extreme drought, deadly heatwaves, incredibly destructive wildfires, record-breaking hurricanes, relentless rain that leads to flooding, and also intense winter storms.

The heat is becoming more and more unbearable. The already hot places are getting even hotter than they were before. This extreme heat requires the need for more air conditioning, which can lead to blackouts and loss of power. Wildfires were already an issue before. Now, they burn longer and are much larger. The damage that is done is also much worse than it could be because of how dry and ead the land is from the heat. Since hurricane are energized with warm seawater, they are becoming much more intense and damaging. As stated above, the hotter places will get hotter. The same can be said the other way around; the wetter and colder places get more wet and colder. With the world warming, the ocean is also getting warmer. This causes the glaciers to melt and the sea levels to rise. As a result, there is more flooding. 

To try and fix this, we need to stop burning fossil fuels and use electricity for energy instead. This electric must be accessible to everyone. Otherwise, having it wouldn’t help as much as it could and should.

What are some examples of extreme weather events, what is causing them, and how can they affect our planet?  I took it upon myself to research and find out. 
One example of extreme weather that I have seen firsthand in California is heat waves.  A heat wave is an extended period of irregularly hot weather.  According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, heat waves have been becoming longer and more frequent across the U.S. in recent years.  In fact, major cities across the U.S. have seen an average increase to six heat waves per year which is a massive change from the average of two per year in 1960.  These heat waves are a product of increased greenhouse gas emissions which are becoming trapped in the atmosphere, subsequently causing the planet to warm.  According to the Center for Climate and Energy Solution, they can have devastating effects on our planet including worsening drought and drying an environment which can lead to wildfires.  Also, heat waves can negatively affect plant growth and increase the demand for electricity which will worsen our situation. 
One other example of an extreme weather event is drought.  Drought is defined as a lack of precipitation followed by a period of dry weather.  Drought has been becoming increasingly common and more severe across the U.S. in the past century.  In fact according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, in the past 20 years, around 20 to 70 percent of the U.S. land mass experienced drought at any moment.  Like heat waves, drought is also becoming more frequent and severe as a result of climate change.  Earth’s average temperature has increased and as a result, the water cycle has hastened.  This has increased the processes of evaporation and transpiration, leaving less moisture in the soil and more in the air.  These areas losing abnormal amounts of moisture will experience prolonged droughts while areas historically prone to receive more rain will get large amounts that will result in flooding.  Drought negatively impacts many parts of society including agriculture, animal health, and water supplies.  For example, plant growth is sedated and many die.  Reservoirs and rivers may dry up leaving plants and animals helpless.

Extreme weather has been increasing rapidly recently. As we know, there are a few big examples of extreme weather that are somewhat consistent. One are tornadoes, which are vertical tunnels of rapidly spinning air. The components of a tornado are clouds, strong wind, rain, and occasionally, some hail. They can move speeds 16-32 kilometers per hour which is roughly 10-20 miles per hour. But their winds can top up to 402 kilometers per hour. (Around 250 miles per hour) Another common example of extreme weather is hurricanes. These beasts are also known as cyclones, and are essentially giant, spiraling tropical storms. They include strong kinds of 257 kilometers per hour or 160 miles per hour. They also can come with heavy rains and can drop around 9 trillions liters or (2.4 trillion gallons) of water.

Since the 1960s, Earth's atmosphere has seen a skyrocket in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration. The levels climb higher and higher every year. All of this extra CO2 in the atmosphere absorbs infrared heat, trapping it in the atmosphere and raising Earth's temperature. The rising temperatures that we have experienced for half a century have shown themselves through drastic impacts on the amounts of ice and snow on Earth's surface.

Climate change has a large impact on the snow and ice on Earth. The higher air temperature melts snow and thaws ice, while also making winters too warm for significant new snowfall and freezing. One example of a lack of snow and ice, provided by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, is the Alaskan Permafrost. Permafrost is a combination of either dirt or rock mixed with ice that typically stays frozen for 2 years or more. However, over the past 40 years, 14 out of 15 monitoring stations in Alaska have reported substantial increases in Permafrost temperature and earlier Permafrost melt. These changes are most prominent in northern Alaska, and are mainly caused by long-term influence from higher air temperatures. This is not an isolated problem. Many of the same patterns have been seen throughout Arctic sea ice, Antarctic sea ice, glaciers, lake ice cover, ice sheets, snowpack, and much more.

The loss of ice and snow is impactful to our lives because of the shelter snow provides for vegetation and wildlife, dwindling water supply for many regions on Earth, and a disruption of cultural lifestyles. In addition, this has global consequences, as snow and ice affect sea level, ocean currents, air temperatures, and storm patterns. Without intervention, the constantly disappearing snow and ice will soon become a problem too big to solve, and will begin amplifying the effects of climate change that we already see. The best way to keep the ice and snow we have is to limit CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions that cause the water loss. By keeping the greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere stable, and even reducing the concentration (by planting trees, for example), we can replenish the stores of ice and snow that are so essential to our life on Earth.

Over the last 150 years, the rise of the industrial era and the rapid growth of the human population has led to various devastating changes on our planet. Over the past century there has been an increase of 2 degrees farenheit in global average surface temperature. Although this number may seem small, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), "Rising global average temperature is associated with widespread changes in weather patterns". Of these changes, a prominent increase in extreme weather has had a detrimental effect on the world and the people that inhabit it. For example, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, from 1851-2004 the total number of hurricanes recorded was 273 and of those, 92 were major and caused severe damage. The EPA says that large storms are likely to continue to become more frequent and more intense with human induced climate change. Another extreme weather case can be observed here in California which has suffered from severe drought that was first recorded in 1924 which corresponds to the beginning of the industrial revolution and our recent climate crisis. According to the World Health Organization over 55 million people globally are affected by drought each year, and water scarcity affects over 40% of the world. The increased temperature of climate change enhances water evaporation and dries out soil and vegetation leading to longer, more frequent, and more potent droughts. Around the world billions suffer from this climate crisis. People must be aware and educated on the climate crisis, and action is required now before it worsens.

Yes, I completely agree with the statement above. As many know, and as I have learned in the web sites below, greenhouse gasses specifically trap heat in the atmosphere to make temperature and weather perfect for the mass amounts of life on Earth. Yet, human activity has caused the rate of greenhouse gasses emitted into the atmosphere to increase a great deal, only leading to global warming. Though temperatures rising isn't the only problem, as it creates many more problems throughout Earth's climate change, more specifically seen in the extreme weather. Like Gavin said, the increase in overall temperature leads to faster evaporation of water, leaving more and more places in droughts. With this evaporation occurring more frequently, hurricanes will become more and more intense, just like we have seen with hurricane Katrina 18 years ago. Though climate change is causing droughts, it also causes the complete opposite too, flooding and snow storms. Which is also due to the extreme increase in water vapor throughout the atmosphere. Heat waves are occurring more frequently, going from an average of two per year in the 1960s to six in 2010-2020, this is a result of climate change. The greenhouse gasses trapped in Earth's atmosphere are causing climate change, this is because the more greenhouse gasses there are, the more heat from the sun is trapped. Many people recently have noticed that hurricanes have become more and more intense. This change in pattern however is not random or a coincidence at all. It is caused by climate change. These storms are becoming more intense, because the oceans are heating up. When oceans grow warmer, there is more evaporation (such as a pot of boiling water). Therefore, the increased evaporation and moisture in the air creates a space for increased rain (NASA, 2022). With this increased rain, it causes storms to be pulled in, making hurricanes significantly more damaging and risky once they hit land.

I agree with you both. Both of you mentioned how hurricanes are becoming more intense and dangerous. You both pointed out that ocean temperatures are increasing. To add to that, Climate change makes hurricanes more dangerous. Climate change is making flooding and wind damage from hurricanes more common in the U.S. That means dangerous storms are getting more frequent, even though the total number of storms isn't changing (Hersher, 2023). It is important to recognize how hurricanes are not increasing or decreasing in the amount there are, but instead increasing in their intensity. This increase in intensity can cause more damage to the homes, cities, and states they are hitting.

It is understood that the 2021 drought which was experienced in the western United States was 6 times more likely to take place due to climate change. Rainfall rates have also been seen to climb 7% each degree (Fahrenheit) of warming which takes place on earth, intensifying flooding, and hurricanes. I think that the most important change to make towards preventing dangerous weather events is to transition away from fossil fuels. Using different power sources such as solar energy and hydropower instead of fossil fuels, which got us into this mess in the first place, seems to be the only way out. We  definitely aren’t going to see any improvement if we continue burning fossil fuels at the rate we are now! Of course, switching the world’s main energy sources isn’t something students like us can do in our own, but if people can put enough pressure on governments to move in a more sustainable direction, I think that they will have to listen eventually.

i live in Vancouver where we have super long and wet autumns that slowly transition to winter. this year, it didn't start to rain until late October which was confusing because it usually starts to pour buckets in September.It felt weird and dry and definitely not normal. about a week after we started to have normal rain it immediately started to get cold. it snowed in November!most years we either get snow in January or not at all.i don't think there is any other possible reason for these unexpected weather conditions other than climate change. and all though the conditions in Vancouver are only unexpected not unsafe, Im sure there are places that are seeing changes that come with consequences.

It was warm and sunny until October, and only now in November did it get cooler. There have also have been a lot of higher temperatures, over a hundred degrees (Fahrenheit) for a few days in September, if I remember correctly. These changes are likely caused by climate change.

Acid rain is a big problem for the environment. While most of it is not caused by carbon emissions on a large scale, it is still caused by emissions of other gases. Carbon dioxide does make the rain more acidic though, and this has a huge effect on what species can live in an ecosystem. Too low of a pH can prevent some aquatic species like mayflies from reproducing and kills off the species.

I live in the mountains, in northen Italy, this summer it almost never rained, in Agust it started to rain a lot, a small village (CASE DI VISO, Ponte di Legno) was overwhelmed by the river that crossed it, destroying road, houses and the nature that surrounded it. The problem is that we are having no rain at all or flooding.

We can affect how harsh weather can be. No, it's not some wizardry, but unfortunately, it's true. How we live our daily lives can affect how much greenhouse gases we produce, which then can affect the weather. For example, driving everywhere you go instead of biking or walking produces a lot more CO2. That CO2 will allow more sunlight to enter the earth's surface, which causes global warming. Hello, i agree with you, a lot of people today don't belive that global warming is real. To convince these people i could talk about the place where i live in the north of Italy. In this area last summer there was a flooding, the river has came out of his bed, it flooded the country and blocked the streets for days. In my area there are ski resorts and there is a glacier where we can ski, in the last 30 years the glacier has melted a lot because of high temperatures.

I believe climate change is real because it is having as many effects on the world, as forest fires and ice melts. I see the situation in Italy, in my country where the last winter it hasn't snowed and in summer were high temperatures;there had never been there.

Hello, I don't know how some people do not see global warming, I live in the mountains, does it seem normal to you that it is 20 degrees in NOVEMBER ?! Another example, last summer there were  really high temperatures that caused drought. And the glacier Presena is melting and that will cause problems to local economies.

Hi, I belive global warming is real. Where I live, in a small village ;in Valle Camonica in Italy, in the mountains, global warming is having terrible effects;for example the melting of glaciers or storms that are more and more frequent and that will cause problems to the local economy. These natural disasters are caused by rising temperatures that also affect the ecosystem, animals, plants, people, weather and our life.

Becuase climate change is effecting us in a big way, heat waves have gotten a lot common than it has ever been. This is due to the heat from forest fires are making it a lot hotter than it should be in the fall.

Hello, I think the climate change affects a lot the weather, for example, I live in Italy, in  mountain place and it's always sunny and temperatures are quite high, that's unusual for us, it snows less and less. In the past it snowed more, but now the rainfalls are less frequent and, when they happen, they always cause damages, here you can find what happened near where I live.

Is your community doing anything to prepare for sea level rise? If so what have they done. Do you know if they have thought of ways to give homes to people who might losses their homes to water rise? Are you worried about your home?

I haven’t heard or seen anything about our community dealing with sea level rise yet. I think we need to, many families and businesses will be affected. Many people I know and myself would be in danger of losing their homes and jobs with sea levels rising.

I also don’t know if anybody has really even thought of a plan because we don’t really know exactly what’s going to happen. In the western world we have this notion that if we put enough money into something we can solve it, which works for some things, but one cannot buy a planet.

Sea level rise solutions can save communities and habitats, but they take time to execute.

One solution that cities employ to decrease flooding from tides and storms is constructing seawalls. These barriers are often built to a height of five to six feet above sea level and cost approximately $600 to $2,000 per linear foot. When seawalls age or become damaged from constant exposure to saltwater or the impact of waves, they need to be replaced. They also need to be replaced or built higher as sea levels continue to rise.

The weather has changed a lot in the just the last years. 2020 was recorded to be the hottest year all over the world. Why is this happening? Why are we having such extreme weather such as fires and floods? And more importantly how do we stop it? This is causing global warming and I don't know how much long our planet can take it.

Hi! These are some great questions. The extreme weather that we have been experiencing in recent years is actually a result of global warming instead of the other way around. As the entire world warms, even a fraction of a degree can change a lot of things that eventually factor into the extreme weather in a sort of chain reaction. One example of this is the super drought that has been going on in California for years. This drought has dried up California land which makes it much more susceptible to fires, and then those fires make the ground all dried out and less stuck together so when it starts to rain landslides can occur. The warming of the planet is also causing ice and snow to melt off of the land and into the water which is a common cause of floods. The extreme weather that we are experiencing is a symptom of the bigger problem of climate change, so the best thing to do is to try and reduce your carbon footprint as best as you can and spread the word for others to do the same.

Hello! I think these questions are fantastic questions. The main reason these issues are happening is because of global warming. I think that the main reason we are experiencing these issues is because of global warming and climate change. Many things that occur today include: Land slides, wild fires, and droughts all over the world. In California these things tend to happen pretty often. As of now there is a pretty severe wild fire in New Mexico, this fire is occurring because of the dryness of the grass in that area. This all correlates to global warming, the reason the grass is so dry is because of the increasing temperature of our earth. Main ways we can stop this is by removing dying trees, although trees provide a lot for our environment the ones that are close to dead can ruin our environment. I also agree that people need to make a change and try to diverge from things such as; Gas cars, fossil fuels, removing dead trees, and waste in general. Extreme weather is a huge problem that will keep getting worse if we don't do anything about it. This is due to climate change caused by human activity. The carbon from our transportation, farming and deforestation is getting trapped in our atmosphere and heats up the Earth. This is causing many horrible problems to arise. Great observation. I totally agree with what you said and I noticed the same problem. However, those people who live on those islands are far less contributors to the problem than someone who may not feel it as much. For example, according to the i2sea website, a school in Taiwan has an average carbon footprint of 10525 kgs, while a school in Nebraska has an average carbon footprint of 28045 kgs. This is part of the problem because those who are most affected by climate change, aren’t the main contributors. On the other hand, those who contribute the most, don’t understand what they are doing to the planet. In general, living near big bodies of water can be risky, and it’s not just islands. Places like California, Louisiana, and Florida all have big coasts and they are also affected by the change in sea level. Overall, make sure you think about everything you do and how it contributes to climate change.

Good question. Greenhouse gases are a major contribution to rising sea levels. If we as humans become more conscious of our effect on climate change and begin cutting down our carbon footprint, sea levels won't rise as much. You could recycle more, grow your own food, take shorter showers, etc. Just simple things like these make a big difference. To defend coastal towns, setting up buffers would help protect the people living there. Some scientists have even begun creating something called "soft walls" which, according to Mach, are "shore-protecting techniques and technologies involving mostly natural materials". These would help soak up the incoming water.

With switching you can reduce your household emissions and save money on your energy bills. Another way is to turn off the lights when not being used. It may seem small but it makes a huge impact on lowering your carbon footprint. You could also use LED bulbs that use much less energy. Ways to defend sea level rising are flood walls. Flood walls will minimize damage from flooding and storms.

Preventing Rising Sea Levels are probably one of the biggest threats to low lying countries like The Netherlands, and Denmark which have few mountains and (especially in The Netherlands Case) huge parts of there land are below sea level. Some ways we could defend our low lying cities and countries are building barriers which The Netherlands(again) are extremely experienced in doing. In other examples such as the San Fransisco Bay Area we could Damn off the Golden Gate and save much of the Bay from going under the waves. But for some other areas in the world unfortunately there are very few ways to actually defend against the rising sea levels. A few that come to mind are many Pacific Island nations and Bangladesh. Pacific Island Nations are usually situated on atolls that are only a few meters above the waves and even in a minor sea level change hundreds of thousands would be swept under the waves. Bangladesh though have a very similar situation to The Netherlands, is MUCH bigger and there is too little time to completely save the country where over 100 million people would be displaced by the waves and a huge humanitarian disaster would occur. Though there is some ways to mitigate the impact of the humanitarian crisis by preemptively evacuating their populations.

In California, wildfires have been consistently been getting worse and worse. For example, according to the state department of forestry and fire prevention over the past 5 years, an average of 3263 acres of land have been burnt by fires but in the past year, it has doubled to 6507 acres. This is also no coincidence because heating up and fires are easily started in hotter and drier climates. The connection between weather events and climate change are very close. They both impact our lives greatly. For example, Hurricane Katrina took a toll on a lot of people’s lives. Many lost their homes and shelters. The hurricane season has increased my concern about climate change. It shows me how big of an impact global warming plays on our environment. Some things as simple as littering can lead to these disasters. That’s why people have to be more cautious about what they do with their products when they’re finished with it. We need to try and stop our carbon footprints from getting bigger. Since climate change is starting up, many forest fires moved their smoke over to my city. A few days ago has also been very hot. Fall is the type of weather where there is breezes and cold seeping into your skin, this however isn’t the case as it was around 90 degrees Fahrenheit in the first week of October. The ice caps are melting, and so is my hope for the world.

Californian here (Sacramento). Thankfully we recently made it out of the hot, dry, fire season. Reflecting back on it, I feel like the summer seasons are slowly becoming worse and worse. Some of the weather we got here was absurd, easily reaching the high 100s (degrees in Fahrenheit, of course). It's hard to enjoy the summer sometimes when you can't even go outside to play basketball in the day. Not only were the hot temperatures bad, but the fires as well! There were plenty of days where the AQI (Air Quality Index) score reached over 100 (which is unhealthy for sensitive groups). There were also a handful of days where it reached 150 (unhealthy). Finally, I remember one day specifically where the air quality reached over 200 (very unhealthy). This is of course due to the smoke from the fires that were having a field day here in California. Undoubtedly, climate change has allowed for this to happen. I'm kind of sick of these fires and hot days. Thus, I'm kind of sick of climate change.

I've been hearing about deadly hurricanes and tornadoes more and more on the news. Even if we drastically cut out emissions, will extreme weather still persist? I don't feel that reducing coal usage will automatically get rid of it.

As the years go on, we are seeing more wild fires and natural disasters around the world. You might say that wild fires are directly caused by humans and not by climate change (which is also caused by humans) but the truth is that climate change promotes these wild fires. The air is drier and the temperature is increasing which makes it more easier for wild fires to start. This brings me to my next point. If I recall correctly, hurricanes that hit the United States start in Africa and get bigger by gathering warm moist air that comes from the Atlantic ocean's waters. In the recent years there has no doubt been a huge spike in fires across the globe. But in particular the Golden State has been hit hard and I feel as if it is slowly burning to a crisp. I believe that it is happening because of climate change. We used to have hot summers. But now we have 110 degree+ summers. This starts large fires and moves them quickly across valleys because of our gusty winds. This is just one example of how climate change is affecting us and our lives right now.

Our Weather is starting to get warmer and worse. Our atmosphere has substances called Green house gases. These gases are very protective of our planet, but when there is too much in one area, it leads to an increase in temperatures and dangerous disasters. We need to make sure we are not letting too many of these gases into our atmosphere so that we can protect our planet.

In 2018, Cape Town, South Africa experienced a severe water shortage after a few years of droughts. The city almost reached what was called “Day Zero”, when the dam levels were close enough to 0% of full capacity, that extreme water restriction almost had to be implemented. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, “human-caused climate change” was the cause of this. The unfortunate thing is, South Africa has very low annual CO2 emissions compared to other, larger countries such as the United States and China. This just shows that the consequences of our actions, and our own greenhouse gas emissions are not limited to ourselves, and can greatly harm other countries.

Hurricane Katrina and other such super storms have become commonplace because of global warming which raises the temperatures and makes these storms much more likely.

In the southern United States, the hurricane season has been getting progressively worse year by year.  They have been forced to endure more frequent, and more severe hurricanes every year.  This is largely due to climate change.  I believe that if we don't do anything to limit the effect of climate change, the whole area will be uninhabitable during the summer within a couple decades.

es, it really is too hot for PE. But that’s not the point. Lately, in California, wildfires have gotten out of control. Sure, it’s common to have long-lasting wildfires, but it’s been too much. Even in areas miles away from the actually fires, dust and ash coat the air, and the sun rises as a beautiful, yet ominous, red color. With the fires came hotter temperatures, a heat wave even. Temperatures have gone past 100 F (abt 38 C). It’s been getting better this past week though. Hopefully these fires will die down soon.

As the human population continues to use products that harm the atmosphere, the weather gets progressively more violent and unpredictable. How can we fix the damage we've done to our atmosphere, if it's even possible at all? When did this first start and how long did it take us as a species to realize?

It’s very true that mostly wherever you live, you have been experiencing some weather that should just not be happening. Summer days in winter, and rainy days in summer. A reason for this could be the climate change issues. We humans are wasting our resources; we waste a lot of this, we use too much of that. All these actions have effects. You don’t understand how they happen, but you can tell they are there. Using cars to go grocery stores that are 10 minutes walks away from our house contributes to the cause of dying animals. It’s time for everyone to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

As we've noticed, the fire season in California and Oregon are starting earlier and lasting longer. This is caused by the lack of rain and the world temperature increasing. One persistent problem we face on the west coast, especially northern california is wildfires and extreme heat. The sharp increase in temperature isn't the only thing to blame for our extreme weather, we need to think of who is warming our plant. We as humans burn too many fossil fuels which in result is releasing tremendous amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and yet we think "oh the plants can absorb it and release oxygen back out to us." But the reality is that the plants can if we weren't cutting them all down, about each second an acre of forest is cleared away due to deforestation to raise cattle. And our oceans can absorb carbon dioxide but the sea waters are now getting to a point where they are so acidic that they can dissolve shells. So we can't just be putting all the blame of extreme weather on increasing temperature if we are the ones causing it.

I think that if you got enough people on board you could create a cleaning crew. Many people for example recent high-school graduates who want to take a gap year but still want to do something in the meantime. They could be in this program. It would be for a good cause and give people something to do.

Well, a possible way to slow down or maybe even stop forest fire buildup during a fire is to maybe put a gap every 100-200 yards so it will take longer to spread and it can't transfer the fire between the gap because theres no trees or other objects it can spread to. it might be able to continue spreading if it somehow connects through a fallen tree, but it will at least slow down the spread so we have a higher chance to stop the spread and put it out.This is one out of the multiple ways to stop them if you research yu can probably be able to find better and more efficient options.

Prescribed burns could potentially help prevent huge forest fires from happening in California. A prescribed burn is a fire that is small and lit on purpose to burn extra organic matter on the forest floor. It takes away a lot of fuel for wild fires and makes them less dangerous. This technique was used my Native Americans for thousands of years, it outlawed by the government, but more recently more people have realized the many benefits of prescribed burns.

The recent fires on the West Coast has severely increased my concerns about climate change. The now warmer and drier conditions of the West Coast has effected the risk of wildfires breaking out. The long fire seasons are killing thousands of people, homes, and habitats.

I agree the fires are very dangerous and they are only going to get worse as the carbon in the atmosphere increases. The fires are not only wrecking homes and habitats but the smoke from the fires is a serious risk to health. The devastating wildfires in BC this summer resulted in many destroyed homes and people being displaced. Entire communities and livelihoods have been lost. Extreme weather is dangerous for all of us, but people living in developing countries and poorer neighbourhoods are disproportionately affected by these events. They will not have the money and or resources to repair the damage the weather does to their homies, cities, etc. As well as the injuries and deaths, the injured may not be able to be cared for properly. If we can work to reverse climate change and its effects we can protect people in developing and poorer countries.

Reversing climate change effect will be super difficult, and will take maybe even hundreds of years. We can works towards it but it won't be easy. To the conversation of how it will effect the less fortunate, i agree. We can maybe even make a petition to put s certain percentage of tax money towards it when the weather gets more serious. But the main issue with that would be that there would be a possibility that they will have to raise taxes. Living on the same planet, we are all on the same boat. Extreme weather caused by global warming is a big problem and it affects some people more than others. If we don't help the cause NOW, it will eventually affect everyone. The extreme weather kills biodiversity, destroys habitats and its killing millions of people.

It also throws the people and animals who are affected by it into chaos, breaking their routines and harming their daily lives.

That is definitely true. Not only does extreme weather kill habitats and people, it disproportionately has an effect on poorer/less privileged communities who are not even contributing to the problem as much as more privileged people, because they can't afford to move away from unsafe places or receive the help they need.

Recently the snowstorms in Texas have made me wonder if the climate was able to change this much in Texas, could the bay-area also have this extreme weather? Extreme weather events like heat waves or storms can be a indicator for more intense human-induced climate change. This is important because extreme weather can be disruptive and sometimes deadly for human life. For example, heavy precipitation has begun to increase in the United States in the form of intense single-day events. From 1910 to 1980 the number of intense single-day events have been steady, but has risen by a lot since then with 9 of the top 10 years for these intense single-day events having occurred since 1990. Climate change affects the number of heavy precipitation events by warmer oceans increasing the amount of its water that is evaporated in the air. This air mixed with evaporated water moves over land or merges with a storm system that allows it to cause heavy precipitation such as large storms or snow storms. The impacts of heavy precipitation like storms can include damaged property, population displacement, disruption of essential services such as transportation, or loss of life by drowning. Living in California, I was thinking about the upcoming fire season. I was curious how much wildfires contribute to climate change.  From an article about wildfire's contributions to climate change on www.3.arb.ca.gov, I found out a lot of interesting facts. Wildfires contribute to higher amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, specifically carbon dioxide. However, it is hard to determine how much more greenhouse gases are in the atmosphere due to wildfires because they are part of the terrestrial carbon cycle. Despite the extreme loss and damage that can come from wildfires, it should not be the goal to eliminate them because they help with maintaining healthy forests, supporting several ecosystem functions, stimulating tree growth, and many others. California's Air Resources Board (CARB) work with other agencies to track greenhouse gas emissions from wildfires and work on developing an ecosystem carbon inventory for natural working lands. Looking over data collected from the inventory, they can see carbon-loss trends over the years, specifically the loss caused by wildfires. CARB has previously focused on limiting fossil fuel emissions but now is more focused on achieving carbon neutrality (balancing all sources of green house gas emissions). Their 'scoping plan' will focus on what forests need to be more healthy and what will promote carbon neutrality. I think that the extreme weather events that we have seen recently show that global warming is a real thing and that It can cause more extreme weather. for example, the snowstorms in taxes were crazy. from the things that I saw on the news it looked like there were just crazy amounts of snow, people even lost power in their houses. I have never seen it snow in the bay area but I wonder if with this extreme weather it might be possible.

I totally agree. I find it astounding that some where that usually know for its heat and sunlight is being hit by more snow then I have all year in Canada. I live in BC so it hasn't usually been that cold but we used to at least get a couple days of snow on the ground here. This year I think I've seen a total of two days with snow on the ground and one of them was mostly slush. In the last couple days I've even already seen buds starting to pop up like its becoming spring.

I definitely think that this is true. What happened in Texas is a great example of extreme weather. Climate change has drastically impacted weather in many different parts of the world. I live in California and the extremely warm and dry weather has caused many fires over the last couple years. It has just gotten worse too. In the fall of 2020 the smoke from the fires blocked out the sun in the Bay Area even though the fires were many miles away. The sky turned orange and red because of the smoke blocking out the sun. This is also happening in other parts of the world. For example, the Union of Concerned Scientists predicted that hurricane are likely to be more intense due to climate change.

I agree. Although some ecosystems do need fire to stay healthy and regenerate, many of the biggest fires are not prescribed or controlled burns, and because of this and also due to climate change, wildfires are becoming a much bigger problem. Smoke is often carried very far from where the fire originally was, which decreases air quality and can be dangerous for both those with respiratory conditions and completely healthy people.

In February of this year, Texas experienced and endured severely cold conditions. This weather, named a "polar vortex" or a cold snap, almost took 200 people's lives in a span of 2 weeks. Although it seemed to shock a lot of the media and people have tried to use this as an argument towards the climate changing, Texas has a history of recorded cold snaps all the way back to 1895. So, my question is: Are the cold snaps an effect of climate change or is it an unusual occurrence of weather in Texas?

Examples of activity that could be boosted by climate change include hurricanes, droughts, and wildfires. and many more. According to the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, warmer sea surfaces can increase hurricane wind speeds and add to the amount of precipitation in the storm. Sea level rise also causes more damage from flooding along the coast. In terms of droughts, C2ES explains that warmer temperature causes more evaporation from soil, overly dry soil and plants negate the effects of rainfall, and alterations to the climate can damage atmospheric rivers, which carry moisture to the atmosphere. Lastly, for wildfires, C2ES describes how the changed climate creates warmer and drier conditions that help fire, increase the length of the fire, and kill more plants to create kindling. In Spain, more than a year ago, we had a serious storm named Dana that flooded a lot of cities. A lot of people died, houses were destroyed, buildings were ruined, etc. Is this a cause of climate change?

In Maine, we had a drought over the last two summers. This is very unusual for us because we’re used to rain once in a while, and the temperature not being too hot. One thing at least half of the state relies on is the public water system. Our state is also made up of 90% woods, and we don’t want our forests to die off.

Recent years have been the hottest in the history and in Iceland we are seeing glaciers starting to melt.

It was snowing last week in Iceland, though it doesn't sound that strange, it was mind you in the middle of April, we didn't have any snow last year in December, it kind of feels like winter has moved a few months forward, I don't know exactly what this means, but I doubt it has nothing to do with climate change.

I live in the south of Spain, and here the summer is getting stronger and stronger. Likewise, the number of cold days is decreasing. It is impossible to sleep without air conditioning in summer, and that is not very healthy either. I think that we can do something to change the situation, but the most important thing is that our world leaders do it.

climate change can affect many places.

It seems like each year we are getting more information on climate change and more situations to prove that climate change is real. So far California's wild fires, Florida's hurricanes, Texas' snow days, and Antarctica's ice caps melting are only the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended) of what's happened and what's to come if we don't minimize our carbon footprint.

I agree and believe that these serve as a warning to get our stuff together.

Both climate change and global warming are real. I believe that people do not take it seriously until it affects them. I think we are all capable of helping out with this problem just by doing something small, like planting your own garden in your backyard or reusing, reducing, and recycling. Yes, I am concerned about the severe weather that is rising. There are also hurricanes and snowstorms that can impact many people. The latest snowstorms in the state of Texas, which could be related to climate change, the residents there are not used to the snow, and since they were not ready, many have lost power and water.

Hi @weberm25 ! I totally agree with what you said ,  climate change touch the world and some country start to fall victim to extreme weather like hurricane ( In US , Japan) , flood in Venise. As a FR citizen , the big city like Paris contaminate the air , lots of people die every year due to pollution and even the agreement of Paris as been signed , the temperature increase every year , the rising water continue to increase , the glaciers melt every day. So the world need to change quickly for the future generation and for us. Because the world would be shut off.

I definitely agree, there is so much evidence that relates extreme weather to climate change! However, some people who are lucky enough to not experience these tragedies don't treat them nearly as much of a serious threat as they should. In addition, the people who have experienced these disasters and know that it's caused by climate change can't do much because they are still recovering and getting back on their feet. Because of this, not enough people are taking action because even though it's obvious what climate change has caused. They either don't realize how bad it actually is or they can't do anything about it. I am very worried about the more extreme weather occurring due to climate change. Stronger storms, hurricanes, and floods mean that people along the coast will be in more danger, and the destruction caused by these events will be a lot greater than before.

I am also worried about the increasing extreme weather. There's also droughts and snowstorms that will affect people that are vulnerable. An example is the recent snowstorms in the state of Texas that may be linked to climate change, the people there are not used to the snow and many have lost power and water because they were not ready. If that is linked to climate change, it shows how quickly and randomly it could happen when you least expect it.

I agree with KassieKnudson7 and i think there is very good reason to be worried about extreme weather. Because of climate change weather is becoming less and less predictable and becoming more and more extreme. As of right now there are already climate refugees that were forced to flee their country due to floods, droughts, fires and storms caused by climate change. And the more this continues the worse it will get and more refugees will be forced to flee their homes.

I think that climate change is real and that it's happening and increasing more and more and time passes. The more carbon is put and released into the atmosphere the more climate change will happen. Climate change doesn't always affect everything. extreme weather can happen whenever. I haven't heard of to many hurricanes this years so no it doesnt change my thoughts on it. So people will care about it more than others.

I probably think that human is the worst enemy of nature because when it comes To extreme weather is a big part of the equation. Who is the gases released by industries and electric generator we heat up the planet Then the weather will get worst and artic areas will soon disapear with them animal that help a lot to mantain the food chain and then all the planet will colapse in a terrible catastrophe.

Unfortunately, climate change is not going to just "stop" or "disappear". We can slow it down quite a bit, but it will never go away. People have made permanent damage and that's almost impossible to fix. Corona has helped with releasing less toxic emissions into our atmosphere, but that does not solve many things. Also, not everything bad is going to reappear. Yes, there are bad things that will not go away, but that does not make them reappear if they were already there from the beginning. If people start taking action and fighting for our planet (political leaders in specific) we can fix this one tiny step at a time. It is our fault if nowadays the effects of climate change are more visible. Then what we deserve finally appeared: a virus.  I think that coronavirus is the best friend of environment. In fact, everything coming against humans has a good effect on the environment. During the lockdown, there is a stop in every human activities, then of course, we were afraid of this virus, but if we take a look at environment: big effect that we thought it could never reappear was a blue sky in China (yes for a short period), or the stop of deforestation in Forest. Maybe we should more focus on the aspect of environment when it directly comes to us, when it directly affects us. Extreme phenomena will make us transform our society, sooner or later.

I agree with a lot of the points made here. Change needs to happen soon. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't fully comprehend the extent of the damage that has been done. That includes the people who are making the most important decisions for our world. We just have to hope that the acceleration of these events will convince people that climate change is a serious issue that deserves global attention. Scientists have been spreading the message for a long time, but it's the responsibility of the people (and all governments!) to listen.

I agree most of what humans have done is mostly harming the world. Even some acts to help have done nothing or a minimal job. I have read Extreme Weather because I think that Extreme Weather is interesting.Extreme Weather talks about how in 2017 and 2018 in the Northern  Hemisphere there were several destructive hurricanes mostly because of climate changes. The extreme weathers can be predicted more with the climate changes and a very complicated device that science's use to predict and storms or hurricanes. I learned this from reading the Extreme Hurricane paragraph.

Living in California and being directly affected by the wildfires, I can safely say that climate change has to be causing the fires. Climate change now has a tangible impact on my daily life. I used to think it was something that would only have an effect in the future, but now I know better. I hope that all of the natural disasters occurring lately will act as a wakeup call for the higher-ups, and the population in general, and I hope some action will actually be taken to save our planet.

The greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere is currently too abundant, causing more heat to be trapped onto earth. The more heat trapped, the higher the temperatures increase. Climate change is ongoing right now and if we don’t recognize this issue soon, our planet will be in a lot of trouble. When us humans burn fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere. With too much greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, heat is trapped inside Earth, making the overall temperature hotter. This causes ice caps to melt and sea levels rise. On an article written and posted on the NASA website they state "The planet's average surface temperature has risen about 2 degrees Fahrenheit during the last century." Where I live, it used to snow somewhat often in around December. The summers were hot but bearable. Now, the summers are even more hot and some areas are becoming more dry. Yes, it is unfortunate to think that most don't assume we have a role in the way the earth is currently responding. I think with enough education and willingness to accept beliefs and ideas as they are can help with forward thought. With enough determination, we can make the changes necessary to help fix some of the damage caused.

Human pollution has caused some sorts of extreme weather but is it too late to reverse the effects? The answer is no but many are unsure of where to start. We can start by slowing the flow of greenhouse gases. the next thing we have to do is learn to adapt to the current climate we have. Although in some places it is not suitable it has to be done. This will include behavioral change. Things like recycling and electric cars are behavioral changes.

I do not want to sound pessimistic but, as our global climate is raising with all the pollution as well as the gas emissions, the arctic circle is also melting and within it a lot of trapped gases that are highly efficient on the GreenHouse effect.
To go with this idea, the less ice we have on Earth, the less sun ray are reflected into space and so it maintains the rise of global temperatures.
So we can say that the more we wait,the more difficult it will be to handle our environmental crisis

Weather not only in the U.S but all around the world has been changing. There have been floods, droughts, and heatwaves. All of these have had a huge impact on the world we know today. Floods are when a certain area of land gets overpowered by an extreme amount of water. A drought is when land lacks a certain amount of water which causes it to dry up. Heatwaves are very common, especially in California. It’s when the temperature levels of certain places rise to extreme temperatures.

I agree with your sentiment, I as someone who lives in a place known for its droughts has been trying to keep on eye on our weather. I believe that we also need to look at what is causing these changes. The most obvious answer being the climate crisis. This crisis has brought about sea level rise which can be connected to the melting of the ice caps but more importantly thermal expansion. This thermal expansion is creating a large group of warm water known as "The blob." The blob is around a thousand miles wide and 300 feet deep. This blob is part of the reason for the droughts. The rise in temperature and having a dry winter has affected the amount of snow fall. This can overtime affect our water reserves and is currently affecting the growth of plants like the sequoia tree which saplings depend on the slow melting nature of snow to grow.

Heavy downpours in the US has increased by a large amount within the last 30 years. The places where the downpours have increased most are Northeast, Midwest, and Upper Great Plains. There are various versions of extreme weather such as heatwaves, droughts, and floods. Heatwaves are when there is an unusual amount of heat for a temporary period of time. A drought is when an area is left dry because there is significantly less rainfall. A flash flood takes place in small watersheds, mainly ones with steep hills.

As I looked at the website that you linked I found it fascinating that the difference of our Earth is completely different from 20 to 30 years ago. And I noticed that reading the article in the past 50 years these problems starting to occur more and more often, excessively high temperatures, heavy downpours, and in some regions, severe floods and droughts. But there is one thing that I noticed that started to confuse me is, that why are heatwaves more occurring in the states in the South than any other place in the World? This really makes me think that the states in the South are doing much worse activities than states in the North, East, or West.

I am very surprised to see this information and as I read the document from your link I was shocked to see the rise in our temperature so high in the past 30 years. This is showing that something that us humans is not working. I think that this got way out of hand and when we noticed something we should have done something about it right away. Im finding the weather way more extreme. Like when I was younger in my city it would never snow in the winter but now a days in the winter its always going to snow. thats kinda the same for summer like when I was younger it wasn't as hot but now  its like 25C-30C. Climate change occurs all the time, and there has always been extreme weather events on the planet. The difference now is that EVERYBODY knows when a single event occurs, because of our level of communications technology (this includes the internet). Because of this, people freak out when they hear about extreme weather events occurring at points on the planet on an almost daily basis. So they run around like Chicken Little yelling “the sky is falling!”. Then they make up bullshit claims about CO2 being the cause, since humans as a species can’t accept that there are some things that just can’t be fixed. I strongly recommend you do your own research into it if it concerns you, as you’re going to get outright lies from the green freaks, and skewed views from those that have axes to grind with the energy industry.

I think that all of us know how extreme weather can impact people severely. The specifics of it are a little unclear though. One of the many extremes kinds of weather is heat waves. This trend has continued in 2011 and 2012, with the number of intense heat waves being almost triple the long-term average. This could also be somewhat of an effect of global warming. This is concerning to me as a person living in the northern hemisphere which is more likely to be affected, and especially considering I have many family members living across the Hawaiian islands, which are very likely targets fro more frequent and devastating hurricanes and tropical storms. Especially living in an area that experiences frequent drought, I have seen how droughts have been occurring more frequently and with a more intense impact. If we don't start taking action in environmental problems the earth will not be able to keep us alive for much longer. The extreme weather changes are becoming more scary each time and do a lot more damage than before.

The weather is becoming more extreme year by year or even month by month. The winds are getting so strong that they can blow away anything in their way. Rain is more extreme somewhere in the world and somewhere the weather is getting colder. And somewhere much hotter. I think if we don´t do something soon for our planet to make this extreme weather chill, we will end up constantly moving places.

Yeah, I agree as well, with what you're all saying, because all these different causes, pollution, poor care for the environment, and most importantly global warming are causing mass destruction by extreme weather to our world. According to CNN, it stated that storms and flash floods are going to be able to cause destruction to two regions across the U.S., which is also a major cause of safety in the world, taking into account how large a region can be. The video is showing just a simple major deep freeze in the South which seems, strange as the South is expected to be warm, which reveals how much of an effect global warming is having on the world. People, littering blocking storm drains, is actually a big deal, as it prevents water from reaching oceans, lakes, and rivers, allowing overflows of water , which could potentially create a flood somewhere. Hi. I agree that extreme weather can impact animals and other living things. Yes, it is not easy for them to migrate somewhere else. Some animals have special features where they can't live in certain ecosystems. Such as a polar bear if too much ice melts and there are no ice caps it can't migrate to Africa and for many reasons. Africa is a hot place, a lot of vegetation and the polar bear could not blend in with certain elements so it needs a certain habitat to survive. Everything goes the same way for plants. Let's go back to the polar bear's habitat barely any vegetation is there just because of the living conditions. The fact that global warming is also taking place just makes environments more of a dramatic turning pike. More and more animals become endangered because of illegal hunting and global warming itself. So, change needs to happen now.

For one to form, there needs to be warm ocean water and moist, humid air in the region. When humid air is flowing upward at a zone of low pressure over warm ocean water, the water is released from the air as creating the clouds of the storm.

Well, after reading your post and question, I did some research. According to the Center For Climate and Energy Solutions, Category 4 and 5 Hurricanes have increased by 45-87 percent. Furthermore, they also calculated that the sea level will rise 1 to 4 feet during the next century. So, to answer your question, the residence along the coastlines are in danger from storms and floods. However, this problem is not a 30-50 year change anymore. This is happening right now, and that is terrifying, but there is much we can do.  If we all made small changes such as carpooling more, or thrifting our clothes instead of buying retail, or eating less meat, we would decrease our carbon foot prints dramatically.

How exactly do elevated carbon emissions increase the severity of storms? If storm levels continue to increase areas in the coast will become uninhabitable. I myself live near a coast, something that can help prevent storm danger/ damage where i live is the natural rising and falling of the land that acts as a natural sea wall.

I think that the common misconception people have is that global warming means that every day is going to be super hot and that is the only thing that is going to change. Therefore, when it gets colder or more rainy during a hurricane, the severe weather is dismissed. Climate change on the other hand explains this phenomena much better to people who do not fully buy into the idea of global warming. I strongly believe that global warming affects extreme weather. In Maine, where I live, the winters have been getting much more mild and also we have been getting more severe storms aswell. I also live in Maine and feel lucky that extreme weather has not yet reached our shores. Small changes to our consumption habits will lead to major reductions in carbon footprint, inturn, preventing the increase of devastating extreme weather patterns from occuring.

Just think about the winter this year it was so unreliably cold. One day it could be 60° and one day it could be 15°. This is most certainly a result of our increasing carbon emissions

Hi everyone!! I’m Julia, i live up north in Maine and the worst weather we ever really get is 6 feet of snow, so I am not an export in this topic but would like to give you my 10 cents. I have been watching (to an extent) the disaster caused by some hurricanes and fires (Mostly in the USA) for a few years now (Off and on). I also have family/friends who have experienced the disasters first hand. My second cousin lost the house they were staying in and all their belongings last summer in the California fires an extrem lose for her as some of the stuff she lost where the only things she had left from her mother who died many years ago. I also have friends with family living in florida who have been struck multipule times by those diasterius hurricanes. It is tragic in my mind, to think that everyday of our lives we pruduced CO2 that makes the atmosphere/earth heat up and then causes those fires and hurricanes. I would like to help make a difference here but I am not entirely sure were to begin.

People don’t realize that there are very correlated patterns that are being forgotten about as new storms come.

With global climate change heating up the ocean, it is almost certain that storm power has increased. The current hurricane seasons have increased my concerns on climate change because the storms could increase further and cause massive damage across the globe. But I don't believe that US citizens would take climate change seriously until it starts affecting everyone, basically before it's too late and we are forced to take it seriously.

I agree and also believe that people aren’t realizing that there is a pattern, or a connection. People see the effect and are affected by these increasing storms, but as they pass, we as humans forget or don’t care about the reasons why these storms occur.

Recently, odd weather patterns have increased dramatically. In addition to the the Midwest cold spell, the Paradise, CA wildfire, and the on-and-off weather in the East, the hurricanes south of the US have increased to where we've gotten at least 3 in a much shorter time than it usually took a few years ago. This has been increasing in recent years, which runs suspiciously similar to the increase in climate change. Ignoring these problems (as many people are doing) can lead to devastating consequences.

Global warning does have an effect on it. I agree with @gavin_eisentraut because things like carbon monoxide emitted from cars encourages global warming. I do disagree to an extent with @rawrxd . It WOULD help slow down the amount of wildfires in the US, but it would not necessarily stop wild fires. Some wildfires occur because of electrical failures, which is not a product of nature. And from then on it's just a series of "ifs."

The wildfires in California are a very big issue that majorly affected many communities and families nearby. There are many causes of this, but one main cause is climate change. Although not all fires are caused by pollution and/ or greenhouse gases, it is a major factor that can truly increase the number of large forest fires and brush fires all over the world. According to an article by Union of Concerned Scientists, one reason this is true is because global warming causes shorter snow seasons, and the grass and brush dries out faster than usual. This increases the risk of a wildfire, and there is less time to prepare. Global warming is also changing the precipitation patterns in certain areas, which is changing the way the government needs to prepare for these wildfires.

As someone who lives in California and has first handedly been affected by the California wildfire, I know that climate change has been affecting our world. The increase of production of CO2 has been steadily increasing the temperature in our atmosphere. It has also caused California and other states to go into extreme droughts. With the mixture of extreme temperatures and lack of water, fires became very common. These fires have destroyed miles of land. This left thousands of people without homes. Not only did people lose everything that they owned, but they had no where to go. The fires took weeks to put out causing many health issues and even deaths. The smoke was so bad that people weren't allowed to leave their homes. Ashes were visible in the air even one hundred  miles away. People lives began to slowly come to a stop because no one was allowed to do anything. These fires had such tolls on our everyday lives. We, as a world, need to stop producing more CO2 before it gets too far out of control.

I also live California and was affected by the unhealthy smoke in 2018. However, I don't think that the wild fires can be completely blamed on global warming and climate change. Yes, lack of water made it easier for the fires to spread and dry areas were perfect fuel for the fires to consume, but most of the blame for starting the fires should be accredited to people's careless actions. According to USA Today, 84% of wildfires are started by people, whether it was caused by a "downed power line, a flat tire or a tossed cigarette butt". In addition to decreasing our carbon footprint to make our environment less prone to fires, we need to be careful with small actions because, as exhibited by the wild fires this year, little mistakes can have disastrous consequences.

I live in California as well and was dearly affected by the unhealthy smoke due to the forrest fires. But wildfires should not be blamed for global warming. In fact forrest fires are essential for large trees because they need them to spread their seeds. Forrest fires are part of the circle of life and they are essentail if we want more redwood trees to grow in our day to day life. Of course I am not suggesting that all forrest fires happen because of this I am just saying that they do need to happen for more trees to grow.

I agree with everyone. Yes, it is part of a trees cycle to grow because seeds were spread throughout fires, but I also think that the amount of fires we are having and the struggle to contain them is a completely different topic. We are having so many fires because the fossil fuels we let out into the air are not combining well with all of the wind that there is in forests. It is healthy for forest fires to happen once in a while, but also very unhealthy for ourselves and all other organisms to have to breathe and live alongside all of that smoke and unhealthy air.

Watching the news as of late and gaining a better understanding about climate change and how it affects weather is very eye-opening and thought-provoking. Living in the south, in North Carolina,  many coastal communities have been adversely affected by this climate change. Many of these communities are unprepared for the devastation that happens, sometimes in a very short period of time. If these events continue to worsen in the years to come as climate change and global warming increase, we can only hope that our communities, especially those that have been affected in the past will be better prepared and utilize resources effectively. My concern has significantly increased knowing that climate change is only progressing with the passage of time, it makes me wonder what the severity of hurricanes in the future will be, in comparison with that of the present and the past. The question comes to mind as to whether or not communities will be able to effectively rebuild after the effects of hurricanes. I hope that people take climate change seriously, but I am afraid those w ho are adversely effected by weather events will take it more seriously than those who have been adversely effected. Often times society takes on the mentality of "It will never happen to me" and because of this some people in our communities may not see weather events as a big concern.

Although I can't really relate directly cause I'm from Berkeley, I do agree that the fact that climate change in the world is creating so many extreme weather patterns is very eye-opening. It shows that the little things, when put in combination with all the other little things that the rest of the worldly population does, we realize that we are destroying the world, and we must stop, in order to at least slow down the destruction that climate change is indirectly causing.

I live very close to Berkeley and  would suggest that extreme weather has and is already affecting Alameda County, where Berkeley is. Two examples I can think of include the drought we had for several years in a row and the related very high level of fire risk. Smoke from a nearby fire was so bad this year that our family had to buy some specialty masks to allow us to breathe safely. We wore these for about half a week before the air cleared enough to be safe. Another extreme weather condition is the constant rainfall this year, which is not typical. While we don’t have hurricanes or thunderstorms, we are experiencing weather changes with more severe weather in our own way.

I feel that the crisis of climate change has lead to extreme weather events such as drought. Climate Change has a direct connection because if the world's climate is constantly changing, extreme weather events will directly follow in the same dramatic magnitude. The recent hurricanes have increased my concern because hurricanes instinctively are rooted to things such as climate change and environmental events. I feel that if there are events that directly effect the American population from a perspective of climate change, Americans will naturally take climate change more seriously. Simply because they become aware of the effects of climate change on extreme weather.

I think climate change is affecting our extreme weather events. Greenhouse gases are trapping heat in our planet and warming global temperatures. This is causing water temperatures to rise. As a result of the rise in water temperatures, there is more moisture. Extreme weather feeds off of this moisture and rises in intensity. This hurricane season has worried me because we are experiencing multiple category 3+ hurricanes. I think this season will make people more serious about hurricanes, because the damage to the state has been going higher and higher. Just in this season, water storms have cost the US over 49.975 billion dollars. I think people will be more concerned about how powerful these storms are going to get after this season.

Global warming is heavily affecting storms because the rising ocean levels and a warmer climate is making storms stronger while they are in the ocean so when they hit and if there aren't any barrier islands the storms won't slow down and get weaker so  when they do make landfall they would be devastating to areas that aren't prepared for flooding. so the people that are stuck might either be seriously injured or they might either lose their homes and quite possibly their lives.

I do agree with your claim. Global warming is causing the ice caps at both poles to start slowly melting. Because of this, ocean levels are rising at a higher rate than ever before. And to add to that, hurricanes and other storms like monsoons form in more humid tropical weather. So with ocean levels rising, and warmer, more humid air, it is all just a perfect combination for disaster. And this is not good because for people who live in areas that get monsoons and hurricanes often, they could lose a lot more than their homes.

The climate is changing because of all of the greenhouse gases that are getting released into the atmosphere. Now we have so many wildfires and hurricanes because the earth is getting warm. The increasingly dangerous hurricanes are frightening. The east coast of the US has some of its biggest cities and some of the worst tropical storms. The stronger storms are being caused by sea levels increasing and the ocean heating, both caused by global climate change. As the Earth heats up it causes ice caps to melt and the ocean to heat up, both cause the sea level to rise. Hurricanes and other tropical storms grow stronger on water and even a small difference in the water level could and is making hurricanes deadlier.   How should we try to fix this? if not how should we try to cope with it.

As our world slowly heats up, we are killing species and organisms that aren’t fit for those high climates. As animals die, this causes dramatic changes in our food chain and carbon cycle as it is thrown off by the loss of an organism.

The hotter our planet gets from climate change the more the world is shifting and I don't mean literally. In Antarctica, the temperatures are dropping leaving polar bears to go to more woodland than their own artic resulting in mind bear babies coming about. As someone who lives near where most wildfires happen, I completely understand and agree with this post. Not many people want to recognize that global warming is one of the factors responsible for mass wildfires. Wildfires are mass destructors and we need to find new ways to confront their origins and fight to find ways to ward them off.

I agree that global warming has caused many more wildfires in recent years but that is not the only driving factor behind it. Take California for example, in 2018, 44 people died directly due to wildfires and this is an atrocious statistic but the TIME Magazine only attribute them to global warming which they name as the cause for these fires. Wildfires have increased in deadliness and numbers on average but global warming is only a fraction of the cause of them and 44 deaths in California, 2018.
               Ultimately what fires are also caused by including global warming is humans interrupting the natural fire cycles present naturally. We have suppressed fires to the point that there is an abundance of plant matter present only waiting to be fuel. Then when a fire does occur, it is often much larger and deadlier than it would be if we had let fires naturally get rid of excess plant growth. In fact, fires are a key part of the ecosystem as demonstrated in Redwood trees which require fire in order to reproduce or plant their seeds within the confines of their cones. A lso natural fires continue many cycles mainly the nitrogen and carbon cycles in which carbon is released once again into the atmosphere (naturally which is good), and dead plant matter containing carbon and nitrogen is recycled by decomposers or microscopic organisms back into the ground. Causing a build up of natural plant matter due to the lack of fires because of human intervention only causes deadlier more widespread fires. This coupled with global warming only increases fires occurrences and people's population of fire danger areas at risk could could cause their death as a result.

In California, global warming and the draught have meant that it is hotter and drier than in a very long time.  Even though there has been a lot of rain in the winter, but fall, everything that has grown during the wet winter and spring dies in the hot, dry seasons, and this tinder can be easily lit on fire.  An example of this is the fire in Paradise.  The final cause is PG&E, who run the electric and gas system in California, who allowed some of their equipment to break and cause the sparks that started the fire.  So while there are multiple causes, global warming does seem to be a big contributor to the growth in wildfires.

Were damaging our planet and it’s now really starting to show. Weather extremes such as tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc. are becoming increasingly stronger than the last. The amount of pressure the human race has been placing on the Earth with pollution of different types has lead to natural disasters swinging out of control.

Lots of natural disasters are an extreme issue. Especially when it comes to wild fires in western states. Earthquakes also are a major issue as well.

It's so important for people to understand that even though these natural disasters cannot be stopped, we are only increasing the number and intensity of these disasters through the pollution and greenhouse gases we produce, which affect the climate. All of this is so true, there have been so many natural disasters that have happened over the few years that have greatly affected the whole world. I have been doing research on the earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan, and they just continue to get worse. To prevent this, humans need to be far more careful about our waste consumption, pollution and the spread of greenhouse gasses.

This is so true. I can't believe how people still don't think climate change is real when the evidence is right there. Flood are becoming more often and extreme as climate change/global warming gets worse. When carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere from cars, factories, and more, not all the carbon dioxide can escape the atmosphere. With the carbon dioxide getting trapped in the atmosphere, creating a blanket of it, the temperatures rise and weather becomes warmer. This then leads to the ice caps melting to cause a rise in ocean levels. These high ocean levels then can lead to floods. If this continues, many animals, like polar bears, will go extinct because of their habitat melting. It will also in the future wash away coasts of land, like Florida.

When I was little I remember me that in winter I always went out to make the snowman and to play with the snow. But now that some years have passed the snow there is not almost more. There has been a winter where it has snowed little. This is not beautiful, because the winter is characterized by the cold and the snow. Because of our actions everything this there is not more and sins.

I have learned about this multiple times in middle school. Due to the heat being trapped in the atmosphere from the amount of carbon dioxide, the ice caps melt. Therefore, there is no snow because of the amount of heat trapped.

I know: it's truly scary. It's sad that it has gotten to this point and still nothing major has really been done to remedy this. Along with seeing the dramatic amount of heat being trapped in the atmosphere and the lack of snow in wintry places, we also see weird phenomena in specific areas.  For example, I live in the Oakland Bay Area and have never really been to any places that are supposed to snow.  However, one weekend in January I went to go see my sister in college in Washington where it is usually cold but not cold enough.  While I was up there, there was a large snow storm and roads became very icy and because Washington is not prone to that kind of weather, there were no snow plows or anything to help out with the roads.  People usually see global warming as the Earth heating up, but along with that, we also need to acknowledge the change in weather all over even if it has to do with heat or not.

I Agree the problem is fires in California are meant to happen, but not to this extent. Many plants rely on smaller fires to spread and to regrow or to get rid of the overpopulating evasive species. Some of the plants need the fire to grow better and to be able to live, but this has been prevented because of modern farming techniques and this has been very bad for the plants because more dead plants are lying about on the ground, which then makes the fires worse, affecting the atmosphere in a catastrophic way.

Climate change is one of the main causes of extreme weather events for example El Niño. I feel that the hurricane season has brought some concern but people are not fully into it. U.S citizens know that its a problem but since we are not dramatically affected they we don't prioritize it

We need to stop pollution

Most of the people around the world are worried about extreme weather but only some are trying to do something  that helps having fewer.  More: there are people saying it's not proved that this events (hurricane, earthquake, avalanche,...) are caused by human beings...It's all natural (!!). That's a big problem: it's difficult to demonstrate that this events are directly caused by our exploitation of our planet.

Once a hurricane of some degree happens people are quick to raise awareness and speak on behalf of many, but what about when the confusion and chaos die down. People stop campaigns and stop the worry. People affected by the storm move elsewhere or stay behind and rebuild. Hurricanes and the effect climate change is giving should be a topic that stays in the discussion. It is a real problem that is always on the move. The conversation should never die down.

We need to watch how much carbon we’re release in our earth’s atmosphere. Or else we’re going to keep having hurricanes, extreme winters and warm waters. These all factor into the decline in our Earth inhabitability.

Recently in California there has been huge wildfires all over the state. All these fires we manmade and now they are unable to control them. With all these fires burning it's not only destroying the state but the carbon footprint as well. My Boy Scout troop did a drive early this month to help with the Camp Fire in California, we went out and gave food, clothes, and toys for children to families that lost everything they had in the fire

The climate change is a direct consequence of the global warming. The destructive events happened in the north america are due to the amount of the CO2 in the atmosphere, that traps the heat increasing the global temperature. I have not directly been stricken from these events, but they have increased my worry. I think that the global warming and the climatic changes are the actual most serious problems and that the man must mostly sensitize him to find a solution to these problems.

I don't understand why the governments don't think that it's better to invest to stop global warming. If they do this they will save a lot of money because theses crazy extreme climatic events have terrible social costs. All of our carbon emissions are leading to warm waters. If we don’t cut back now; animals, coral reefs and us humans are going to suffer. Climate change can effect human health, weather patterns etc. We could do things that could reduce climate change by reducing our carbon footprint, and this could easily be done by doing things like cutting down on electricity and water use, what you eat, how you travel to places, etc. But it is hard to get the whole world o contribute.

There has been a lot of extreme changes in weather in California. I believe that this could be due to climate change. US citizens should be taking climate change a lot more seriously now. We can take action to help prevent climate change.

I agree with you. According to the U.S. energy information Administration, in 2015 California had 364.0 MMT of carbon dioxide emissions. These carbon dioxide emissions contribute to extreme weather. Especially in California because our carbon dioxide emissions are so high.

I agree with you on how the US citizens should take it a lot more serious especially if it well help stop the weather from being as extreme as it is sometime. I also like how California is acting on their carbon footprint and I think all the other states can and should do the same

I agree with what you said about people needing to take it more serious. It can extremely  affect the weather which can have negative affects in the long run. I feel like more states should work on lowering the carbon footprint.

I feel like there are two sides to Climate Change those who deny it's existence even though extreme weather has occurred more often and is physical evidence of change occurring world-wide and then there are those who believe it exists and are actively trying to improve the conditions world-wide by reducing their part in releasing carbon into the atmosphere.

I think climate change is part of why there is extreme weather because the warm weather causes the oceans to warm up.  The Hurricanes use warm, moist air to generate the huge amounts of wind and rain.  This Hurricane season has increased my concern about climate change because more and more hurricanes are going to be created due to climate change.  These Hurricanes are going to keep hitting us and doing lots of damage.

I feel like climate change is causing more extreme weather. The overall temperature is rising which is causing the storms to build more energy to produce more powerful storms. Hurricane season is a concern due to the fact that it can produce a very powerful storm. I feel like US citizens should take climate change more seriously but they probably won't until a bad storm comes their way.

The changing of weather and different fronts are big reasons why the climate change is so weird. The change in climate is the reason there's been an incline in the extreme weather events that have been happening all around the world. This hurricane season has definitely increased my concern about climate change because it's only become worse over the past few years and I really hope that US citizens become aware of what this extreme weather is coming from so that we can change this.

Changing the view point of the whole world is hard because just by reducing your carbon footprint you can help a lot, but not everyone wants to change.
