All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!
Now It's Time for Action

I know that everyone likes ice cream, milk, Mac n' Cheese, and just cheese in general--- but have you ever thought about how it affects the climate? Cows--- the source of all our dairy--- release methane, a global-warming inducing chemical, through their digestive system.(As in, when they b*rp or far*...) Personally, I am the only dairy eater in a lactose-intolerant family, but I still feel that we could cut back on the dairy so that farms don't breed cows so much, and so (Hopefully) the amount of methane going into the atmosphere will reduce. (Lactose-free ice cream is good, people!) This is just a thought, but personally, I will try to cut back on the dairy. A pebble in the ocean still creates a ripple! Thanks for hearing me out, and if anyone has any other ideas that don't involve giving up cheese for the sake of the world and reducing methane, I'm all ears!
Yes, I agree with everything you are saying but I also think it is important for people to realize the other impacts of eating dairy or even the animal agriculture busyness in a whole. Yes, cows producing massive amounts of methane is a problem. But we can reduce the amount of methane that cows produce by feeding them what they are originally built to be fed. Grass. The main reason we need to cut back on dairy and meet products is because grazing for animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of deforestation all across the world. Because of the space needed to grow the grain they eat, thousands of acres of forest are being destroyed ever second. And because the amount of water used to water the grain fed too the cows and the amount they drink in a lifetime before they are slaughtered eating one hamburger is equivalent to taking a shower for two months. So yes cutting back on ice cream, cheese, milk and meet can all help there is a bigger problem that not a lot of people have been educated about.
Its hard to think big and try to help the world with just two hands! That's why taking small steps and making small actions are easier. There are many things you can do on your own too! For example you can, recycle, walk and bike, donate to environmentally friendly organizations, take shorter showers, turn lights off, or go thrifting! When I calculated my carbon footprint i noticed that a big percentage of my purchases number was from buying new most of the time. Buying used items is a great way to reduce our plastic waste and the amount of money we are spending. But it is also a great way to reduce the amount of transportation needed to import items from far away. Most of us don't pay attention to the shipping when buying things online, but some items can come from across the world, needing a boat or airplane to ship. And even fewer people pay attention to shipping when inside a physical store. For some items, like clothing, all it takes is to look at the tag to see where it was made. With larger and more popular stores and brands, most of their items will be shipped from other countries, especially if the store originates somewhere else. So thats why when you shop local, you have a higher chance of finding items that have not been shipped or at least not from far away. So why pay for carbon to be released atmosphere when you can spend your money on an item with better quality that is made either locally, or has already been used!
Through most most people's carbon footprints, you can realize that most familes have their carbon footprint based onto either food or transportation. There many ways you can solve each problem. First, to solve food carbon footprints, I would first suggest going vegetarian because when you eat and buy meat, you can cause a large amount of carbon footprint. Another way to restrict carbon footprint by going fo something local. The first way is to simply go to a local vegtable shop and buying something there. Even if you still want to buy meat, you should still use it through a local source. If you want to use transportation, it should be better if travel and have vacations locally and not go somewhere very far. Even if you do, you should still use public transportation like trains to get somewhere. This will be able to help solve many of the world's problems in our carbon footprint.
Yes I, believe going vegetarian will help, because if we don't eat a lot of meat it won't cause a large amount of carbon footprint. So I totally agree that eating vegetables will help lower the carbon footprint. And I also agree that going for vacation not going to a far place also helps the carbon footprint lessen
Yes, being vegetarian would be better for Earth. Because we wouldn’t pollute the world more.
Vegetarian is better for the Earth but it is also really hard for many families to stop eating meat. It might work to gradually start eating vegetarian meals.
While I agree that eating less or no meat is better for the earth, it isn't always that easy. Eating meat is an important part of many cultures, and it isn't fair to ask those people to stop eating meat. I think we also have to consider that a big part of the carbon coming from meat is from the deforestation and clearing of land for animal agriculture. Because of this, the land that we are already using for animal farming would still be used to grow alternative sources of protein. While it would reduce the amount of methane being released by a lot, I don't think we can "fix" this problem, or erase our food carbon footprint. In addition, other sources of protein such as quinoa or chickpeas are much more expensive than meat, and there are many countries and people who cannot afford the alternate options. Yes, whoever can should consider eating less or no meat, but we can't ask everyone to cut meat out of their diet.
i think you make a valid point but it is also very difficult to do these things for example some people live far away from there schools or stores, I live very far away from my school and therefore have to drive there. in addition to this it can be very difficult to just stop eating meat and to buy local for some people. As an example some people only have enough money to buy food at stores such as costco because they have lots of family or not enough money to afford high quality local vegetables. Also for some people eating meat is culturally important. I think it is important to think about what you are saying before you say it especially on the internet because it is difficult to judge others comfort unless you know them and in this situation not many people can follow through on this advice.
Did you know that progress in women’s political participation remains slow. According to my research on the UN Sustainable Development goals... In local governments, the participation was higher at 35.5% as of 1 January 2023. While global employment sees nearly 40% representation from women, they only held 27.5% of management positions in 2022, a notable decrease from 28.5% in 2021.
As we all know, climate change and carbon footprints are destroying our precious yet weakening planet. We talk about it all the time. We talk about the causes and effects, the solutions, and why we shouldn't produce so much carbon footprint. But no one really took action. Instead we just sit here ranting on and on about how evil humans are, and how "deeply necessary" it is that we do something, blah blah blah. Now, don't get me wrong, what we talk about is all right and true. But we need to take action. For example, I now walk to school more often than before, instead of riding in a car. Even though this may not seem like a big change at all, it is still something. Remember, small things lead to great things. For those who have the ability to make a bigger change, don't wait, just do. This is for our planet. It's dying day by day while you're deciding if you should buy one more pair of shoes to add to your LOVELY shoe collection.
So please, let's start taking action into saving our planet Earth, and its wondrous nature. Big or small, it's still something, and it will help lead to a better future for everyone.
Hello, I think it's important to make a conscious effort to reduce our carbon footprints, because spreading awareness without effort does nothing for the planet. Unfortunately, for some people, they have to rely on cars to go to/from work or school, but carpooling could cut down the use of car emission overall. Reducing personal use of electricity and plastic can add up, and if everyone had this mindset the Earth could be taken care of better. I agree with your statement, a big or small effort is better than nothing!
I noticed that most of it is lower than the average but because of sports, it's higher than average for transportation. Because of this, I should try to drive only for sports and things I need to drive for, but walking to school and stuff I'll keep on walking.
I also do a lot of sports and your transpartaion can get pretty high because you might travle for games and practices, one way i thought i could lower my CO2 is carpool with team mates.
I am going to start recycling more plastic and other materials, and when going long distances for sports or other activities I should carpool more with friends.
In our company, Tintasytonercompatibles, we are using only recycled plastics, in addition to reusing all the boxes and packaging we receive to minimize our carbon footprint. We have changed the labels to just a QR to minimize plastic waste. We can all help!
But is there a way that we can do more than this can we spread it further?
Here are some thinks we can all do to help the environment and reduce our footprint:
.Go on foot and use pubblic transport to consume less carbon
.Take recicling
.Buy second hand clothes or for example use our cousin or brother old clothes
.Switch off the lights or in general the electrical devices
.Turn down the heating and putt on more layers
Vehicles such as cars are a big part of getting around in the present day. But the carbon footprint they leave is huge. Gas cars release about 1.5 billion tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere each year, as more cars are bought and produced the number quickly climbs. About 60% of Americans don't take public transportation or other forms of more environmentally acceptable transportation. Instead choosing to take their cars to travel, around 79% being gas cars. Instead, promoting public transportation or other forms of eco friendly transportation can support the ecosystem. Replacing travel with a gas car with public transportation reduces 45% of carbon emissions to the atmosphere, doing the same with a bike or walking can further help.
yeah cause 8 lane highways arn't to hot for the environment, just look at California for example.
In almost everyone's carbon foot print there average is really high. So we have to protect our home so the next generation can live in a peaceful world. Recycle more, walk more, close the lights when you live a room, when you don't need air conditioner, protect our home.

The oxygen provided by forests is too precious to give up
This is a big one. So much of historical rainforest area has been destroyed and converted for either agricultural or industrial purposes. Not only to these in themselves contribute largely to the amount of Carbon in the air, but the loss of the trees means that less cellular respiration is occurring, meaning that less CO2 is being taken out of the atmosphere. So yes, we do need to address the issue of deforestation, and preferably sooner rather than later.
Hello all and happy Earth Day, my favorite day of the year!
Today it has just gotten warm enough here in coastal Washington state for me to hang my laundry for the first time since last autumn. It is unusually warm and sunny here, which is probably due in part to climate change. But his reminds me that in a changing climate we can adapt and still do things to help the earth, like drying my clothes in the unusual sun!
Also today I will go clean one of my favorite beaches when it is low tide - which is in 10 minutes!
What are you doing to celebrate our shared planet today?
recycling, saving water, cutting down cigarettes, using busses
Many scientific studys show that
nature and the climate is declining at a very fast rate. We should act normativ before its to late!
In my opinion there should be bins for recyclable waste to save more CO2 and stop polluting the air. We should also find a way to use recyclable waste in households as well.
Global warming is the phenomenon of increases in the average temperatures of the Earth's atmosphere and oceans in recent decades as a result of greenhouse gas emissions produced primarily by human activities such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation. This phenomenon has serious consequences for the environment and life on Earth, including melting glaciers, rising sea levels and changes in weather patterns. Combating global warming is one of the biggest challenges facing modern society.
There's a lot of problem's and we should do something. CO2 is a big problem and there's country's that produce a lot of CO2
Here are the top 10 biggest CO2 producers (first time I searched top 10 biggest CO2 producers I was scared I didn't know that they are produce that lot of CO2)
China, with more than 14 million tons of CO2 released.
United States, with 6 million tons of CO2.
India, with 3.5 million tons of CO2.
European Union 3.4 million tons of CO2.
Russia, with 2 million tons of CO2.
Japan, 1,170 million tons of CO2.
Brazil, 1.140 million tons of CO2.
I know that's a lot of CO2
Greenhouse gas emissions from humans are a hostile force that is wiping out and threatening many plant and animal species. Although many precious species, from the golden toad to the orange-spotted filefish, and more have gone extinct due to human activities resulting in climate change, it is still our responsibility to protect the rest. According to a report by the United Nations of Biodiversity, species are depleting hundreds of times more than in the past 60 years. There are over 9.2 million living organisms on planet Earth. Around two-thirds of those living organisms live on land, but they are constantly facing the threat of extinction, as are the species in oceans and aquatic habitats. In today's world, we are facing the sixth mass extinction event, caused by humans, which could be the final blow to wiping out all species on earth if we don't work as a whole to overcome this. The WWF Living Planet Report 2022 displayed that in less than 50 years, the world lost sixty-nine percent of all mammal, fish, bird, reptile, and amphibian populations. This means that many keystone species might've died, leading to trophic cascades that negatively affect the ecosystem, as biodiversity is very important for an ecosystem to thrive. There are now a total of 42,100 species on the IUCN Red List, and 16,306 of them are endangered or threatened with extinction. This is up from 16,118 compared to 2022, which is a huge leap, mostly caused by high carbon emissions. Only 28% of species have been analyzed by the IUCN Red List, and out of these, 41% of amphibians, 27% of mammals, 34% of conifers, 13% of birds, 37% of sharks and rays, 36% of reef corals, 26% of selected crustaceans, 21% of reptiles, and 69% of cycads are all at risk of extinction. Additionally, wild mammal biomass has declined by 85% since the rise of humans. Researchers predict that 6% of plants and animals will disappear, going completely extinct by 2050. Furthermore, in the worst-case scenario of global warming, scientists estimate that 27% of plants and animals could disappear by 2100. For instance, Asian elephants and orangutans are endangered because their habitats are being destroyed by deforestation and the loss of plants they feed on due to climate change. Leatherback sea turtles are also becoming endangered because of global warming, which is caused by human greenhouse gas emissions, as the water is becoming too warm for them and their food to survive in. Additionally, snow leopards, polar bears, and Adelie penguins are endangered due to the Arctic shrinking at 14% per decade and their prey, such as krill, moving away on melting Antarctic ice sheets. With this rapid decline in the amount of ice, either these animals die of starvation or they search other areas for food and survival, like land. Not only do animals on land face high risk, but also aquatic animals such as the North Atlantic cod have been going extinct. As the Arctic melts, the cold water that melts from the ice changes how the entire ecosystem works, and unfortunately, The North Atlantic cod could not adapt. Lastly, many corals, such as the Staghorn Coral, are threatened by coral bleaching, ocean acidification, and diseases, which are all caused by warmer water that these organisms are not used to living in. In summary, the entire world is suffering from heavy species loss due to greenhouse gases, especially carbon emissions. We can do our part to conserve and restore biodiversity by doing simple things, such as biking more often, taking shorter showers, or buying locally, which may help to rehabilitate all of our extraordinary, distinctive species on Earth.

The alarming rate of species going extinct due to climate change highlights the urgent need for action to mitigate its effects. As habitats become uninhabitable and ecosystems are disrupted by rising temperatures and extreme weather events, many species are struggling to adapt and survive. This loss of biodiversity not only impacts the natural world but also poses significant risks to human societies, including disruptions to food systems, increased vulnerability to natural disasters, and loss of cultural heritage. As app developers west palm beach, we have a responsibility to leverage technology and innovation to address these challenges. By developing mobile apps that raise awareness about climate change, promote sustainable practices, and facilitate conservation efforts, we can empower individuals and communities to take meaningful action to protect our planet and its precious biodiversity. Together, we can work towards a more sustainable and resilient future for all species.
Climate change is a real thing and people need to start taking bigger steps to reduce the climate. This is important because the Earth could be at stake. People need to start using items that don’t emit carbon. Cars and other transportation are a big factor. Lucky for us, there are hybrid and electric cars. These cars dont use as much gas as a normal car. If everyone had an electric car, it would help the climate. There are many more things that people can do to help the Earth.
I agree that humans need to step up and start taking action to help prevent climate change from worsening. We have seen many clear changes in the world’s weather patterns, oceans acidity, more animals becoming extinct, and so much more. We have also seen that many of these things are caused by CO2 imbalanced caused by humans. One last thing is that our carbon foot print really shows that our daily activities affect the carbon cycle greatly. If humans just made an effort right now and took action then maybe we can reduce climate change.
I agree I think people should drive electric cars. This is better because Elon Musk is a genius and knows how much better our world would be with everyone sliding in electric whips.
Climate change is a real and big thing, people need to start worrying about it more. If people learn about it then people can learn how to help. Many things can help but a lot more hurt the environment. Electric cars can be very helpful but there are some that hurt the climate more then helping.
Climate change is a real and major issue that our Earth is facing and if we don’t act and make changes right now, the future of our planet is at high risk. For starters, many people don’t even realize and understand that climate change is a real issue and many don’t believe that it is a real thing. So first off we need to get more people on board with the fact that this is a real problem that our planet is facing. Obviously not everyone is going to believe that climate change is really happening, but we do not have time to wait for every single person to get on board. We need to get more people on board with the fact, and then keep moving forward. World representatives, presidents, leaders, etc. need to focus on big changes that countries as a whole, for example implementing solutions like ocean power, geothermal power, kelp restoration, etc. to make bigger changes to help limit countries carbon emissions as a whole. At the community, town, and school level they need to focus on making smaller changes like going plastic free, creating more gardens, etc. because it is not realistic for schools to be making major changes, but if we get a majority of schools, communities, and towns to make a lot of small changes we would see a major decline in our CO2 emissions. Everyone needs to get on board with the fact that climate change is real and happening right now, and if we don't act now the future of our planet is on the line.
Climate change is rising at out finger tips and getting worse every day. But the problem is no one is actually trying really hard to make adaptations. It’s time for that to start. Humans are one of the main contributors to climate change and global warming. Even though people might disagree with changing some of their ways, its still important to change. Every little thing could make a difference and make a big step towards a more sustainable and livable planet. Things such as even turning off the water when you brush your teeth or unplugging chargers that you aren’t using from the wall. All these little adaptations make a huge difference especially when everyone does them and knows about them. That’s why we also need to make people are well educated about climate change so everyone can work together to make the planet livable and sustainable more years to come.
large amounts of peoples carbon footprints comes from their consumption of food, specifically meat. when you look at how much carbon you can keep from entering the atmosphere just by reducing your meat consumption I'm sure you would be astonished. For example just by switching my meat consumption to "Vegan 90% of the time or more" I reduce my carbon footprint by nearly 1700 kgs. Personally I would be okay with giving up meat in general for the better of the earth. Though I feel it could be challenging considering I still live at home with my family and don't decide what I eat for certain meals. I say challenging, not impossible. Different ideas for overcoming this obstacle could be cooking for the household more and more times per week, communicating with your family about possible eating more plant based food, and doing the grocery shopping for the household. Or another option could be the whole house going vegan, assuming that everyone is happy to comply. Other things that create lots of carbon are eating non organic foods. Foods that were imported from far away on a car or an airplane add immense amounts to your carbon footprint. You could help this by making more of an effort to shop at local grocery stores and making sure the food you buy is organic.
people who eat meat every day special red meat have a large amount of carbon footprint because the farms that the animal lives in, farms use a lot of water and food resources to feed the animals, and don't forget the amount waste that the animals producer.

I agree with you both that reducing meat and dairy consumption is a very impactful way to lower your carbon impact. My brother and his wife were always big eaters of meat and dairy, and when they turned 50, they not only wanted to eat healthier, they also wanted to live more sustainably. So they started a diet suggested by Mark Bittman called "VB6" - meaning "vegan before 6pm".
In doing this they didn't have to give up 100% of their meat and dairy all at once (most people when they try that revert to meat eating after a short time) while still having a big impact on their carbon production, and also living healthier! That could be something to suggest to parents who don't want to give up meat entirely but are interested in trying a little change.
Oh and one more benefit! My brother is a great cook, and since he went VB6 he's an even better cook, because he's now got a wider range of skills, versatility and ideas in the kitchen.
Something that I can do to decreese the ammount of carbon is I can always turrn off the lights when I go out of a room in my house . A challenge that I think that I will encounter is that I will forget to turn off the lights and so they would stay on all day. I could remind myself to turn off the lights by putting a post-it note on the mirror to remind me to turn off the lights before I leave.
Another thing that we can do this at Whitby is to get solar pannals, because solar panels don't burn any fossil fuels. They get their energy from the sun.
Now its time for action, my second question is what challeneges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change one of your behaviours? One challenge I may face is not being able to reduce the amount of times you drive, use public transportation or carpool. Your not always going to have a friend you can get a ride with or be able to reduce the amount of times you drive, but some ways you can cut back on those things are, in the morning you can take the bus to school, instead of having your parents drive you, that way not only you get to save carbon but you get to be with your friends. Another way you can reduce the amound of carbon you use is, you can bike around to places that are near you, for example if you want to go to grab stuff from the store, instead of driving for five minutes you can walk for a easy fifteen, and even though you might not want to have to take the bus of walk to the store, these changes can really help the enviroment stay healthy.
OPTION FOUR - Now It’s Time for Action!
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or improve for the sake of the environment?
Yes, in fact there are a few simple ways to reduce the amount of Carbon Dioxide released every single day;
-Turn off the lights when you leave a room/space! Turning off the lights will save around 400 kgs of Carbon dioxide by only one press/click/switch.
-Turn off the tap while you are brushing your teeth! If you leave the water running for two min it will release 2 kgs of Carbon Dioxide but you brush your teeth more than once per day. So in total you would be releasing around 6kgs of Carbon Dioxide EVERY DAY!
-Use gas or fuel oil to keep your home warm in the cold season! Using gas or fuel oils release a lot less Carbon dioxide than coal or wood. Wood releases 6971 kgs of Carbon Dioxide, coal releases 10709 kgs Carbon Dioxide and gas or fuel oil only releases 3183 kgs of Carbon Dioxide. (it is even better to use electricity to heat your home because it only releases 1912 kgs of Carbon Dioxide)
-Take short showers (around 5 min)! Taking short showers can release 115 kgs of Carbon Dioxide, but taking 5-10 to shower releases 285 kgs of Carbon Dioxide.
-Compost your food scraps! Composting food scraps or vegetables can take away 65 kgs of Carbon Dioxide (it reduces the amount of Carbon Dioxide).
We can do a lot of things to help to keep the enviroment healthy like simple recycling or just educate ourself about how important is to keep the enviroment healthy for futire generations.
I agree, it seems though that many people seem to just brush off the little things we can do just like recycling and throwing away our trash. Doing these things it will help our world stay clean and healthy as you said for future generations.
I agree, though lots of people around us tend to just forget about keeping the environment healthy. We can educate and help people by just reminding them of ways to save the environment like throwing our compost in the compost instead of the garbage, throwing our plastic bottles in recycling bins and many more ways just to keep our environment healthy.
I agree, recycling and Enviromental education play crucial roles in preserving our planet. small actions collectively contribute to a healthier environment, ensuring a sustainable future to come.
The world will be a better place if we use the public transport to reduce the carbon emissions
is your name rodrigo
I completely agree. Public transport is a great way to start a reduction in the carbon emissions coming from other ways of transportation. In fact with each individual that chooses to make this change a change of up to 2.2 tons of emissions can be saved. Even doing things like carpooling can make a change too! If carpooling is an option this could save up to 1.0 tons of carbon emissions and is worth it if it's a possible option for people.
I agree. More public transportation would definitely be better for the environment. I think that the USA especially has to work on this. The USA is very car-dependent, which causes a lot of problems. First of all, there is a lot of traffic, which makes people late for work, school, etc. It also negatively impacts the environment by having more cars on the road emitting carbon dioxide. Having better public transportation would make daily commutes to and from work and school more convenient for people, and it would reduce the amount of pollution in the air.
You definitely have a point. If a destination is too far to walk or bike to, public transportation is a great way to reduce carbon emissions for two reasons. First, public transportation allows larger groups of people to travel to the same destination and it takes up less space. You can imagine how much more space there is when there's 20 people on a bus compared to 20 people in individual cars on a road. Furthermore, a lot of the buses in my area have a "clean gas certified" text or something similar to that, and it made me think about how many cars in the U.S. are electric. According to J.D. Power, only less than 1% of all car sales are electric. If we compare the facts here, being able to transport more people at the same time while taking up less space with vehicles that are intentionally made to reduce carbon, is something that should be more acknowledged and preferred compared to individual people transporting themselves which takes up more space, and less than 1% of these cars are made to drastically reduce carbon emissions.
I completely agree with what you said. I think that using public transportation can have a very positive impact on the environment and make the world a better place. If we reduce the number of cars on the road, then we can decrease the amount of air pollution and carbon emissions. Buses and trains can transport a large number of people at once, reducing traffic and promoting a greener way to get around. For example, I've started bussing home from school every day due to my parents working, and even though I'm just one person, if we can get more people to make these little changes in their lives, we can slowly help save our planet, and reduce the amount of carbon emissions.
We are very fortunate to live at a Planet that provides us with so much benefits but yet we still don't take it for granted. For example 90% percent of the earths population is breathing polluted air. Air pollution causes 5 million deaths worldwide. We are the reason for the pollution and we need to stop it before it's too late! The factories we create and work for are the biggest reasons of air pollution. Instead of factories producing everything we can make home made and organic food. The human population is growing but at a slow rate, this increasing population needs use of more resources to sustain the population. With the growing human population the use of plastic is increasing which is obviously bad for the environment. There is so many things that can make a huge difference in are environments, for example reducing factories, not using plastic as much etc. Reducing carbon footprint can help Earth a lot, our carbon footprints play an important role on global warming. Global warming is not just bad for planet earth but it can affect us humans and other species. We can reduce our carbon footprint by saving water and electricity. We waste 1.7 gallons of water annually we can reduce that number just by turning are faucet off when we aren’t using it. By doing simple things we can make a huge difference in our environment.
This is a very good analysis because it shows how and why humans are the cause of pollution. Not only does it explain it, it also gives the human society ideas of how we can help our planet become healthier.
I agree with what you have stated here. Although there are a lot of different things that contribute to climate change, I think that factories have the biggest impact. Did you know that from the top 20 dairy and meat producers around the world have gone up 3% compared to last year. Also, the fashion industry has a huge impact on this aswell with around 20% of the 300 million plastic waste produced comes from the fashion industry, if you think about it, that’s around 60 million tons of plastic waste just from the fashion industry!
I think that now it’s time to educate ourselves and others about the impact of our actions on the environment, and the steps we can take to reduce our carbon footprint. Education plays a critical role in reducing our carbon footprint, as they can help us better understand the impact of our actions on the environment and identify ways to make positive changes. I think that we can educate people in schools and on social media because a lot of people will see it there.
I agree. The more people learn about their carbon footprint, the easier it will be to implement changes to improve it. I wasn't aware about my carbon footprint's impact until recently learning about it in school.
YES! well said i completely agree, Education does play a major role in reducing anyone's carbon footprint, just by doing this assignment i feel more aware of my actions, and its more clear what i need do the lower my carbon foot print. It is very beneficial for people to not only see how negative their actions can be towards the planet but to also know what to do about it.
I totally agree with this statement, Educating others is such a great way to start with helping to prevent things. When you educate others with a thoughtful explantation it can really show a new perspective to the topic. For example i babysat for a family who would just throw out there leftovers after they're done dinner, and i would know that because i would see a full 2 servings of mac and cheese in their compost. So what i started to do was after i was done feeding the kids instead of throwing it out like they said i would simply put it in a container in a fridge. Then after a few weeks i could see that they noticed and started to do that and now they always put leftovers in the fridge. So those little things can definitely help. Because waste is a big thing that effects climate change.
Hello, I'm going to talk about what we can do to change the situation for the better climate. To help change climate change, we can take measures such as reducing energy consumption, recycling, using sustainable transportation and supporting renewable energy.
I'm sure most of us use social media at least once in a while, and I want ask how many of you have seen anything related to climate change within the past week? This could have been an ad or a post that was either calling out for action or denying it completely. Personally, I haven't received anything related to climate change in the past week, and that very well be because social media apps are recommending different content I'm more interested in, but I also believe that social media can and should be used as a way to get out messages further into the public and reach a bigger audience. Thanks to social media, anyone can have a voice and can project their voice throughout the world, regardless of language boundaries. Opinions can be expressed and solutions can be thought of with people around the globe about a global problem. This also means that organizations may also update the public on their discoveries and/or ways to reduce carbon emissions, especially if a big company posts something about it, it already reaches a large audience. Also, this allows for information about climate change to spread, like statistics that prove climate change. However, I also believe that some of this information should be monitored. This is because social media also allows for misinformation to spread. One study found that 16 of the largest polluters in the world had uploaded over 1700 ads on Facebook containing misleading information about climate change, which reached over 150 million people. Also, activists on social media may only call out for action rather than actually putting in effort to reduce carbon emissions. On a final note, as much as social media may be used to call out against climate change, it still uses a lot of energy which adds to an increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. That is why I believe social media is both a good and a bad tool for acting against climate change.

Some of the environmental consequences of a rapidly growing human population are that the Earth will become more polluted with all of the factories in production of goods for humans to survive. it will also have consequences because of the plastic and trash that humans produce around the world and on top of that the carbon gases that humans produce. All of these factors for make up the environmental consequences. I feel like one way that we can help allow these environmental consequences to not all happen is for us as a whole too not use so much plastic and when we do use plastic dispose of it properly. Another way would be to have a cleaner environmental airflow by not polluting the Earth so much with all of these factories, and trash that we throw everywhere.
I agree with this statement because it shows how we affect the environment but also gives advice on how we could fix our past mistakes of pollution. The only thing that is wrong with this statement is that they lack the steps and outlets of how to incorporate the advice this person has given. If they put examples of how to use less plastic or learn how to dispose of plastic in a way that will not harm the environment then I would call it an amazing analyses.
Our weather is changing fairly quickly due to climate change, over here in California it’s been warm even during the fall the hot weather barely stopped about a week or so ago. But all we can probably do is lower our carbon emissions in hopes to slow down the climate change even just a little bit.
More than half of my recorded footprint came from food because I go through like 3 gallons of milk by myself in a week. If I went vegan or something my footprint would be below average but I just consume too much dairy. And it's not even meat like I eat a considerable amount of meat too but nothing outside of what's considered the normal amount, plus I need the protein for working out. On top of that I feel like it can't be good for my health, humans are the only animal that drinks milk from another animal and that just doesn't sound natural. literally when I input dairy in the food category my total went up by like 3,000 kg it was insane
Since climate change has been the effect of humans fueling transport and helping themselves live more comfortably, they must find ways to keep this going without worsening the effect of climate change. Some ways we must do this is to create new transportation functions without burning fossil fuels or creating pollution, using electric cars, and make new discoveries that provide the same functions without creating pollution.
How can I act?
You can start your adventure by taking the train, bus, or even a bike to work. According to the EPA, quitting driving for just a year can help you save 2.6 tons of carbon dioxide. It's important to reduce carbon emissions because the greenhouse gases that are emitted make the Earth warmer, which can drastically change the ecosystem and atmosphere. One thing you could do is stop eating meat. Cows belch 220 pounds of methane per year, which is very bad for the environment. Another option is to eat less meat, which is also helpful for reducing your carbon footprint. You can substitute vegan meat, which is made of soy and textured vegetable protein, for meat. Additionally, vegan meat aids in the prevention of heart disease. All in all, there are many small things you can do to cut your carbon emissions and help the Earth.
These are great Ideas, but there are other ways to help climate change that require less time and sacrifice, little things like reusing and recycling old materials, for example, donating clothes you have grown out of, or recycling old batteries, you can also buy rechargeable batteries or even just substituting plastics for reusable alternatives.
It's time for action one of the things we need to stop is burning fossil fuels like coal and oil and putting all this carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Scientists have observed the high level of carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere and other green house gases this causes the world to heat up. So we need to cut back on burning fossil fuels and plant more food in our local area to stop wasting food.
We have developed many problems that are affecting our planet, an example of this is climate change. Climate change affects the whole world, meaning the solution is for everyone to act on. We can do this by using less energy at home; and turning off the electronic devices and lights after we’re done using them. Shorter showers, less meat consumption, drive less. For many some of these solutions cannot be done due to their circumstances. So instead, we can all promote the dangers of climate change, clean energy, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Another thing we can do is to hold different industries, the government, and businesses accountable for their large share of global warming.
The amount of CO2 being released into our atmosphere is astonishing. Humans are the main cause of these huge carbon footprints, but there are many other factors. If the whole world was able to reduce our overall carbon footprint, we could help our planet tremendously.
One major effect of our large carbon footprints is global warming. Global warming is caused by greenhouse gasses being trapped in our atmosphere and then emitting radiation back down to the surface, and that is what heats up the Earth. Some of these gases are released into our atmosphere en masse, and one of those gases would be carbon dioxide, or CO2. Carbon comes from our cars, busses, planes, and many other day to day things. While animals and plants do produce carbon, we are the main cause. Reducing our carbon footprints is the only way to help our Earth and slow global warming, and there are some very easy ways to do that.
Some ways to reduce our carbon footprints is to save water and electricity. By turning off the water or the lights when you don’t need them, you can save immense amounts of energy. Unplugging devices when they’re fully charged, not leaving the faucet running, and using natural light instead of artificial are some other ways to save. Walking and riding bikes, or even taking a bus or train instead of a car can reduce the amount of CO2 emissions by almost 33%. Recycling, using cloth towels instead of paper, reusable containers, ect. can also reduce the amount of pollution and help our environment as well. Unfortunately, these things can only help a small portion, as much of the gases in our atmosphere are coming from factories,, 100 factories produce 71% od CO2 emissions. The solutions for this have been sparse, corporations have been releasing smog into the sky since the Industrial revolution, and they don’t plan on stopping soon, The best many people can do is just try their best to save on energy and reduce their carbon footprints, but a solution will have to be made quickly
There have been numerous tries to reduce carbon footprints around the world, but with a growing population, more and more greenhouse gases are being released. Wasteful purchases mean more factories are profiting, which means more is being produced, and more greenhouse gases are in our atmosphere. The environmental impact of global warming is huge, icebergs are melting and heat waves are lasting weeks on end. If people around the world start to make an active effort to reduce our carbon footprints, change will be possible. But as long as we continue to have large carbon footprints, nothing will change. Solutions must be made to help our environment, and to save what’s left of our planet.
If anyone has any other ideas on how to help, with reducing our carbon footprints or maybe factories, then that would be incredibly helpful ![]()
We are fortunate to live on a planet that provides us with so many benefits, but we don’t take enough care of it. For example, air pollution. 91% of the earth’s population is breathing polluted air. In 2017, air pollution caused 5 million deaths worldwide. Most of the pollution comes from the gas emissions of factories. One of the best ways to drastically reduce this problem is to use less factory-made products. Other ways are to make home-made products instead of store-bought ones, or to use less plastic. Littering Littering is the practice of humans leaving their trash around, which has a negative impact on marine life. Most of the time, people are responsible for their own trash. That means they’re responsible for the garbage they’re throwing away. Many of the plastic we use ends up in the ocean, killing marine animals. One of the biggest ways to reduce plastic usage is to use metal water bottles instead of minimal use plastic water bottles. My final example is wastage of water in our environment.Did you know that we waste 1.7 gallons of water annually. We can preserve about 10 gallons of water a day if we can just turn off the faucet.2/3 of the water we use comes from showers,so we should all make an effort to limit our time in there. In this earth we have to take care of eachother and put our own needs and desires aside. We all can make efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and make the world a better place.
Ever since the 1800s and 1900s the population of the human race has seen a huge increase in size. This increase of size makes us use up more resources to sustain the new individuals that are coming into earth, and since we have to use more resources to sustain the new individuals the effect on our environment could be devastating! One cause of the increase of the population is pollution, meaning if we use more resources for the new individual the more waste is produced, causing our seas to be polluted and the air to be filled with gases. Now it's time to fix this, one way we could fix this is to turn to Eco-friendly products, use electric solar panels, and to try our best in picking up waste.
Believe it or not, there are easy ways to reduce your carbon footprint without changing your habits or lifestyle. Taking initiatives such as turning down your water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit or installing a low-flow showerhead to reduce hot water use are great ways to reduce your carbon footprint without changing your ways. This will still allow you to take nice hot showers but will also help reduce your carbon footprint and even save you money!

There are plenty of ways on how to reduce your carbon footprint without it changing your life. Its a common misconception that being environmentally friendly will change your lifestyle in a bad way in reality it’s easier than you think. You can start with simple things such as bringing your own reusable bags to the store, or to turn the lights off when there not in use.Overall it’s a great idea to find ways on how to reduce your carbon footprint.
These are great ideas! I hadn't even considered a low-flow showerhead.
The cars and trucks that we drive every day contribute to about 20% of the total carbon emissions generated by the United States. That's a big percentage of our carbon emissions coming from just one source. In order to reduce your carbon footprint while driving, try to implement these strategies to reduce your car's overall carbon emissions.
• Use cruise control
• Avoid unnecessary breaking and acceleration
• Use air conditioning only when necessary
• Don't sit in your car while it's running
• Drive less / carpool

Plastic production and waste is one of the most widespread climate issues. Plastic not only creates a large amount of greenhouse gases, but the plastic itself also affects the environment around it. According to MIT, if the amount of plastic produced in the world stays on track, it would contribute as many greenhouse gases as the entire continent of Africa by 2030. As for how it affects to environment, an insane amount of plastic is thrown out into our roads and oceans, causing ecosystems to collapse and organisms to not be able to function. This progressively destroys the environment and doesn't allow greenhouse sinks to function. One of the ways we could solve this is to instate a more efficient recycling system that encourages recycling and punishes littering. For example, the German recycling and return system is one of the most efficient at reducing plastic waste, as it punishes and makes it difficult to freely throw away plastics.
This is a good showign of plastic production, its very informative and shows a solution in the end.
this facts
Collective and individual actions are both helpful and contribute a lot to end climate change but collective actions are what can really change our climate and help reduce the carbon dioxide in the air. The problem is that not enough collective actions are being made and climate change is still a problem. What can be done right now are individual actions which can still have a great effect even if its less than collective actions.
Climate change is a serious problem that requires everyone to do their part to help out. There are many things we can do to reduce our impact on the environment, like using energy-efficient technology, conserving water, using public transit, biking, or carpooling, eating less meat, and reducing waste by recycling and reusing materials. By taking these actions, we can make a big difference in creating a more sustainable future.
There are many things we could do as a community to reduce climate change even if we think it is inconsequential. Some small way we could contribute to the reduction of climate change is by limiting the amount of energy we use. For example, we could turn off the lights when we don't need them, use cold water when we do laundry and hang it out to dry once in a while, or take shorter showers. These are small ways we could contribute. Some more substantial ways we could contribute is by powering your home with renewable energy by using solar panels, instead of using fossil fuels. Another way we could help reduce climate change is by reusing and recycling or by giving batteries and old electronics to organizations so they can dispose of them. These are some ways we could help reduce climate change.

Over the last 800,000 years, carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has risen and dropped, but in the last 60 years, the undulating CO2 has stopped going down and has skyrocketed to a level it has never been before. According to The Keeling Curve, the current level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is higher than it has ever been, and if we don’t find a way to either stop increasing or decrease it, then the effects of that amount of CO2 will be irreversible (Scripps Institution Of Oceanography, 2023). According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the United States released 5,130 million metric tons of carbon dioxide connected to energy in 2019, whereas 33,621.5 million metric tons were released globally. (“How Much Carbon Dioxide Does the United States and the World Emit Each Year from Energy Sources?” n.d.) We can change the amount of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere by cutting down both our own carbon footprints. There are many ways to easily do this, such as one day every week, and commuting to work using an alternate mode of transportation (bus, rail, carpool, or bicycle). Eat less red meat and more locally produced food.(“Top 10 Ways to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint and Save Money | AustinTexas.gov,” 2017)

Just a simple one way flight can have a detrimental impact on the environment. A flight from London to New York generates about 986 kg of CO2 per passenger, which is more carbon than the average person emits per year in 56 countries! And these rates are only increasing as the airline industry is growing. So does this mean that we should travel less? Not at all? Unfortunately the most effective and straightforward way to tackle this issue is to simply reduce our travel and flights per year. But there are some other options such as buying carbon offsets. Carbon offsets are investments in developments that are combating carbon emissions, such as projects that plant trees or the implement of solar panels in communities. Though carbon offsetting is a good first step towards reducing your carbon emissions, it isn’t 100% effective because you are most likely emitting more carbon than you are offsetting. If you think about it, you're still emitting that carbon and will still be in our atmosphere, you are merely helping to reduce carbon in a different area to try and balance the carbon you emitted. In my opinion the best solution is to try and reduce your travel as much as possible, but if you are going on a trip, maybe look into some carbon offsets.

There are many people who do not know how to reduce their ecological footprint, many are not educated, and many do not care. People are not sufficiently aware of their ecological footprint. Some of the ways to reduce the ecological footprint are: recycling, reducing the amount of meat and consuming more fish than beef, chicken... Consume smaller amounts of food, use public transport or go to places shorter distances on foot or by bike. We should not buy new plastic shopping bags, but use reusable ones. There are many ways to reduce our ecological footprint, these are just some of them.
In order to reduce our carbon footprint, we need to: turn off the electricity when we leave the room, turn off the water when we brush our teeth until we don't need it, take a shower as quickly as possible, compost the remains of fruits, vegetables and leaves independently in the yard, plant our own fruits and vegetables in the garden or buy from local producers and use as little exhaust-gas-fueled transport as possible, instead ride a bike or walk. If we follow these rules, we have already taken a big step towards achieving our goal, which is to make the Earth cleaner and reduce CO2 in the atmosphere.
We have neglected the Earth more and more from time to time and now the consequences are starting to appear. If we do not act now, the Earth will be completely polluted and destroyed and we will no longer be able to live on it. They should start making changes today, throw less garbage, use renewable energy sources, etc.
I believe that we should start making changes immediately so that we can see the results in the near future.Maybe, for example, if we start saving water in households, try to reduce the amount of waste and sort it, and with these small steps we can make big changes.
In the world as it is today it is nearly impossible to avoid a large amount of travel. Between planes, boats, and cars humans are constantly being ferried all across the world with little regard to the repercussions beyond compliance with regulations for fuel efficiency. I am not knowledgeable on this topic but I wonder what carbon neutral options there are or may be for large scale travel in the future and how the integration of this real or theorized method of transportation would work.
You can Google it.
Or use ChatGPT if you want information that comes in layers and then you ask questions you want answered rather than all of it.
Don't know how Bing does things, but it might work as well.
In my opinion,is not really hard to act.We can introduce in our secondary schools and high schools a lot of various activities through students can learn how to recycle. Also,I think it's a good idea to do such activities not just in schools, but in public too.So many people will learn how to act.
The people will learn the importance of recycling, simple things like turning off the tap while they brush their teeth etc.
If you have another idea, write here please!
Have "role models" everywhere around you. Have them see everywhere people that recycle and they will too.
Make it non-negotiable - either by law or shaming. Don't leave any way of getting around it.
Have the reason for recycling be related to the person you try to get to recycle. Either be moral and use their fears and dreams to get them to direct them to a future they want or abuse your power and give them a more life-or-death reason.
Basically create resistance for anything that is not recycling.
What can we do to lower the amount of co2 being emitted into the world?

Go on the second section, then student preparation for the footprint calculator.
There you will find every way you pollute.
Mainly less transport with machines (both for yourself and for food), less heat in the home and less light bulbs.
In our community it is very important to do all we can to lessen our carbon footprint such as recycling, being aware of the resources we are using, and not using cars that require a lot of gas.
I agree that we need to decrease our carbon footprint in communities and I think that we can also do this in schools. One of the recommendations I have to act now are to follow some sustainable practices like: schools can provide more organically/locally grown food to the area as well as less meat products, administrations could also switch over to eco-friendly buses which might encourage more students to take the bus rather then driving in their own cars which emit more gases and one other suggestion I have specifically for schools is to promote more ways to reduce the carbon footprint in the science classroom. Personally, I know a multitude of students who really enjoy on-hands learning so maybe schools can start incorporating that in the way students learn how to plant trees. At our school we do have a gardening and horticulture class but I am saying more of that can be done maybe a teacher or student could start a sustainability club.
When ever you go to the store you usually come home with 2 or 3 plastic bags. These plastic bags are made from nonrenewable resources and the process through which they are made from releases tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. We can all cut down on the amount of plastic bags we use by just reusing the bags you get from buying groceries. Reusing bags is one of the easiest ways to help your community.
I think it is a great idea to reuse the same bags that we have already used. This is a method of reusing. I also think it might be better if we didn't use these bags at all, since they are plastic, which takes a long time to break down and it is bad for the environment. I think it would be better to buy a tote bag that is made of safe, recyclable materials. Another method is to make or sew together a bag from extra or leftover fabric. This is another method of reusing.
I think Italy is very at the forefront, in the supermarket I haven't seen a plastic bag for over five years, only biodegradable bags are used. On the other hand the use of plastic bottles is very high, we should improve the use of recyclable materials like glass.
It is a great idea to reuse but I feel like supermarkets should eliminate plastic bags and convert to paper or fabric bags. In Canada, all the supermarkets I been to the past year does not have plastic bags. I think that it is better to just eliminate plastic bags because once a plastic bag is not useable you throw it away. Paper and fabric bags are just better and more consistent when putting items inside your bag.
I totally agree with you! Plastic bags just feel like such a waste of resources and put a huge amount of carbon into the air. There are two possible ways to help decrease the use of plastic bags. The first is to use reusable bags from your home. My family usually keep ours in the car so we don’t forget, and wherever we go shopping its super easy to carry around. The second is if you do end up with a plastic bag, try reusing it as best you can. Whenever i get a plastic bag i store it in a container in my basement. Ill then take them out as needed for things like lining my trash can, this then at least gives them a longer life, and can end up will less in the landfill less quickly.
I certainly agree with you. Plastic bags are so so harmful to our environment and using reusable ones is extremely simple. Everyone can make this small difference, practically no matter where you live, no matter how much money you have. If your local grocery store only has plastic bags available you could make the little choices like carrying your groceries if it’s only a couple things, and if it’s not investing in some quality reusable bags is a good option. My mom is a big advocate on reusable bags and ever since we have started using them we haven’t had to use the stores bags. They are also a lot more durable then the cheap flimsy plastic bags you are frequently given. Also even another plus is that in some places stores they make you pay money for bags, so if you have your own you are also going to save money. Along with saving money, saving time, saving resources, you’re also saving the earth. So I totally would encourage everyone to invest in a reusable bag.
I agree. Plastic bags are terrible for the environment as they stick around in oceans and landfills for thousands of years. Reusable bags are a great way to limit plastic pollution, but another way, though not as good is for stores to stop using plastic for their bags, and switch to paper instead. Paper is decomposable in just a couple months, so this solution is much more sustainable than using plastic. Most large supermarkets where I live have already switched to paper bags, and I definitely think thats a step in the right direction. Overall, though, reusable bags are a much better solution.
I live in a city where a lot of the extracurriculars, school and other places I go to are within walking distance. I must admit that I often drive to a lot of places out of convenience or when I think I'm going to be late. I think that if I leave my home a little early and use public transit, I could use my car less. That would mean I could reduce my carbon foot print for transportation.
I agree! i live in a rural town out in Maine, and as a town i really think they could do better about public transport because i end up having to drive everywhere. But i also think i can do better about holding myself responsible for when i can walk instead of being lazy and hoping in the car. Because when people start walking more, not only will it be better for your body, it will be better for the planet.
It's important to choose a sustainable diet, trying to reduce the consumption of carbon dioxide, water waste and the release of chemicals into the environment.
I agree! Choosing to have a much more sustainable diet, by eating more organic, local, and eliminating meat from your diet, can reduce many carbon emissions. I think that this is definitely something people should more deeply consider. Even if you don’t completely eliminate meat from your diet, try eating vegetarian a few times a week. Small changes like this in your diet can have huge environmental benefits. I also think food waste is another thing to consider, as a teenager in a public school that composts, we produce such large amounts of food waste. Knowing that many schools do not compost, composting is definitely another thing that people can do and should consider doing in their homes. Water waste, can be improved by simply taking shorter showers, and stopping the water when you don’t need it. These will all have very large benefits to our environment, especially if many people can adapt to such easy changes.
I agree! I am almost 100% vegetarian (I occasionally eat fish). The food i eat is organic and mostly local. This helps because there are no pesticides and because it is local there is less CO2 emitted from transportation of the food. It is good to know where your food comes from!
Try meet alternatives such as impossible or beyond beef burgers.
I agree! I feel like people don’t really think about the foods they eat making an impact on there carbon footprint, but there are definitely ways that people can change their diet to be more sustainable. One way to do that is to not waste as much food/ try to reduce the amount of food you waste. My school is both good and bad at this, while we do mage to compost are food waste which is a really sustainable way to take care of any leftovers, my school dose a really poor job of the amount of waste we create at that really adds up. Being mindful of the portions that you take can really help, and take only what you actually need to Create less waste. Also, as i said earlier, another really good solution can be composting your leftovers, so instead of it all going into a landfill its helping the earth.
We bought recycled and used clothes, instead of spending hundreds of dollars on clothes that are probably going to sit in our closets. Or atleast buy ecologically accepted clothes that can be recycled. Should we do that? What are some other helpful solutions? Let me know what you think? ![]()
the world would be better if the economic balance would be adequate in every family so as to be able to contribute to general eco-sustainability
Seriously Good Will is so underrated. We need to look at thrift shops for a new hoodie before we supply big money industry's when what they want.
We would recycle properly.
Not pollute the ocean
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or improve for the sake of the environment? Many people have a hard time reducing their carbon emissions like changing their diet to eating more vegetables or flying to see family. What are you willing to sacrifice? What If I told you, you don't have to completely cut out everything from your life. What if you can carpool with your friends, eat meat 2 times a week, or fly less than before. Reducing little things can make a big impact.
English: Greenhouse gasses that are released into the atmosphere isn’t natures fault, it is ours. Ways that we increase the levels of co2 in the atmosphere includes simple activities in your day to day life. The first way that you can help decrease the amount of co2 levels is by taking a shorter shower or only showering when necessary. Taking hot showers for a long period of time burns fossil fuels that are needed to heat your shower water. Taking a shorter shower or even a cold shower can help decrease co2 levels. Turning off your light is also an idea. You can turn off your lights when not necessary like if it is sunny out you can use natures light. You can also look into more sustainable flight/planes when traveling. Using fossil fuel efficient planes can help decrease the amount of co2 being released when flying. You can also try carpooling with friends to either after school activities or to and from school. Cutting out the amount of meat that you and your family consumes is also an option. In the u.s, there is a very high demand for meat, and cows are meat. However, when we slaughter all of these cows so you can eat it for dinner, the cost is releasing more greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, methane. These are all ways to help decrease the amount of co2 in our atmosphere. Although you might think that one person might not be able to save our world and global wramings, one small action can turn into one big one by the help our community. If you want to see change, you must change.
But what if others are not cooperative
It is mostly food that is the biggest thing that I come to struggle with even though it is good in moderation, I need to eat less and instead find healthier better alternatives to what I usually eat, which can allow my carbon emission to decrease such as Nitrous oxide, methane, and Carbon dioxide. I also need to take shorter showers and colder showers so that there is more water to be used for the future, and taking colder showers allows electricity to be spare because warming up water costs more water than if it was cold.

We need to do something about our carbon footprint average in the United States. The United States nearly triples the carbon footprint average of Earth. This is bad because this could lead to the collapse of many unique ecosystems. High carbon footprint could lead to the destruction of ice glaciers and unique ecosystems that cannot survive if the Earth becomes warmer. What can we do?
So many people, including adults, are so picky. But do you know some people like Africans can't even PICK what to eat? Sometimes they don't even have food to eat. So please, do what you can to not be picky, eat everything, and most importantly, NOT WASTE FOOD!! If you are spoiled, I recommend you train yourself, and you will be independent and responsible in no time!
This is true. A lot of people take what they have for granted. Food waste is a waste of natural resources and causes harm to biodiversity. Research showed that about one third of food in the world gets thrown away, which is really crazy!
i couldn't agree more on this!!! this is so well said! it's sad how food gets taken for granted and how so much food is just straight up wasted. . .
I agree, It's better you eat what you receive and don't waste food, if you don't like what's on your plate give it to someone who will eat it and likes it, or don't get it in the first place. Many others around and around the globe wish to eat what you eat and wish they had food. As another commenter said, Angelwilliams, research shows that about one third of food in the world gets thrown away, so please don't waste food and our environment.
I definitely agree with your statement. Food waste is such a big problem in some developed countries. That is why each person is responsible for what they consume and what they don't. If you can't eat all the food, then buy less next time. Don't throw the food away, leave it for tomorrow's breakfast, etc. There are many people who can't even choose what to eat for their next meal or sometimes don't know if they will have a next meal.
I definitely agree with this statement as I see so many people at restaurants send back their order because they didn’t like the food. I understand if you do that because there was genuinely something wrong with the dish, or be grateful that you have access to good food and finish the meal served in front of you. Better yet, if you physically can’t eat what’s in front of you then box it up and give it to a homeless
I agree that when people to take advantage of the current situations they live in, they forget how lucky they are to have a roof over their heads. Some people also may waste food while others are starving around the world. One good example would be The United States of America, and said by feedingamerica.org, “According to the USDA, more than 34 million people, including 9 million children, in the United States are food insecure.”
I agree! Most people forget how lucky they are that they could waste food while others are barely getting scraps, it's quite sad to see. Some people throw away their food that is perfectly fine, just because they didn't like it. This wastes perfectly fine food that they could've given to someone who's in need.
Over the past few years, we have all seen the videos of entire villages and towns being washed away by floods, and such major floods happen at least once a year in India, the native country of my family. However, when I asked by grandparents, when they were young, such events were not as big, and only happened once a decade at most. Such a change happening over such a short time is a major issue, and the worst part is it is happening to the poorest countries, the same countries whose ecological footprint is lower than the fair share. So I ask you now, how is that fair? Why is it that the richer countries get to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle at the expense of the poorer countries, other creatures, and out planet. Saving the environment and preserving our planet should be the duty of everybody, not just a few countries.
I'm beyond willing to take a step, and many more steps down the road to improve my environment, and reduce my carbon footprint. According to the results I received after calculating my carbon footprint, the most overused category was what happens and occurs at home. Showers, air conditioning, and heating usage deeply affected my results, and in acknowledging this, I push myself to change it for the greater good of our planet.
Reducing my shower minutes to less than five minutes, bundling up, and having to rely less on the air and heating units in my home, would undoubtedly lower my carbon footprint. Staying and being comfortable is where I find myself to be most. In such warmth from the water to the atmosphere, it would be a very big challenge that I would take on and am willing to do, to be less comfortable and more inclined to temporality be uncomfortable.
By reducing shower temperature and time, as well as not excessively relying on the heating and air conditioning; our family's overall water and energy bill costs will lower as well as reduce water usage so that we don't further contribute to another drought season.
Nowadays, we have to stop using plastic. For my part, I live on an amazing island, with many sea animals, so we must protect them from all the dangers of pollution. Obviously, plastic is a big problem, we have to reduce the use of plastic as much as possible. Thus, it can be replaced by cardboard to prevent them from suffocating.
honestly I don't think we could ban plastic. It's everywhere, we use it more than we know we are using it.
I've read somewhere that there's plastic is in your shampoo, towels and detergent. (not kidding)
Yes we cant really ban plastic since it is out everywhere but we could at least try to reduce it and have a limit to it. We could do that in certain ways just we need to spread awarness it how to do it.
Yes we can't really ban plastic since it is out everywhere but we could at least try to reduce it and have a limit to it. We could do that in certain ways we juct need to spread awarness in how to do it.
We cannot really ban plastic, but we can reduce the use of plastic.
About 300 million tonnes of plastic waste are made by human beings every single year. This shows that we can not put a full ban on plastic since people use it every single day. We use it for our transportation, electronics, technology, packaging, construction, etc. If we did ban plastic then a lot of these would not be able to be produced. We can add a limit on the number of plastic products used in packaging, a limit on plastic bags a store can give, and we could find other sustainable materials to replace plastic. But, banning plastic bags and bottles could help the Earth more.
I agree to the fact that we cannot ban plastic but that doesn't mean we can't replace plastic with other reusable or recyclible materials such as wood ,metal and paper .I have noticed that some fast-food companies in my city have replaced the plastic straws with paper ones.I would like to know what changes your local stores or shops have made?
Banning plastic is a very good idea, but it is not very realistic. Too many people rely on the manufacturing of plastic for everyday products because it is very useful and can be made in to almost anything. Plastic still has a huge impact on the planet and all the different species that get caught up in it though, so being able to reduce our usage of it can make a difference, ban or no ban.
Indeed, plastic, which is human waste, affects other species negatively. We need people to realize that we do not own this planet, nor do we live on it alone. There are millions of other species that we share this planet with. Plastic is one of many other ways that we hurt other organisms and our planet. We need to find a solution soon to stop the destruction of this planet.
I do agree with this statement because not only are we being selfish by dumping all of our trash into the ocean, but we are also harming ourselves as this leads to a dirtier environment for us to live in, it really is time to take action.
I do agree with this statement because not only are we being selfish by dumping all of our trash into the ocean, but we are also harming ourselves as this leads to a dirtier environment for us to live in, it really is time to take action.
I think it is pretty obvious to everyone by now how destructive plastic is to our environment. Some people have actually taken action by doing things like not using plastic straws and bags, but it is much more than that. There are way more things that contain plastic than people know, like gum and detergent. I think people should be more educated on more things they can do to reduce plastic waste beyond the basic things they already know.
global warming poses a huge threat to not only our wellbeing, but also the planet. however there are solutions to reducing global warming - maybe not all the way - but still better than before. a few of them are as follows
- bring. your. own. shopping bags. plastic is indeed harmful to the environment, especially the ocean. by bringing your own reusable shopping bags, you're helping reduce the big global warming problem the world has.
- turn the lights off. this is really just common sense, when lights aren't necessary, turn them off and keep them off.
- consume less. keeping your consumption low reduces carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
Our actions towards making the Earth greener and more clean have been too naive. We need to be more aggressive and serious towards cleaning the Earth. Most governments try to persuade individuals that they're taking actions to clean the Earth. But most do minimal to no action towards cleaning our Earth. This results in greater damage towards the Earth. In order to clean our Earth, we need to have a brighter and aggressive approach towards cleaning/persevering the Earth.
I believe that one of the biggest factors influencing global warming is the excess of natural resources. The greenhouse effect that is currently being created is also due to human overexploitation of natural resources namely fossil fuels, ores, water, soil, but also biodiversity.
Given the fact that they are nonregeneable resources, I do not support exaggeration în their use, but recommend moderate use.
Hi, I totally agree with you, I think the uncontrolled consumption of natural resources it is a crazy thing! I want to open a small question about global warming and the effects it is taking in the place where I live. Year after year I'm seeing the increasing of catastrophic events, floods, melting glaciers and enormous damage to flora and fauna. The bees are going to disappearing and the soils are increasing fragile due to drought!!!
I agree where i live in calfornia there has also been a major increase in catastrophic events such as severve wildfires, droughts, and flooding. This has caused me to think of the effects of our personal carbon footprint. While on the large scale mass production and usage of natural reasouces is extremely harmful, we as humans are supporting this mass usage of natural reasources whether this be through using heat, elctricty, or the cars we drive. I think the first step to solving global warming is focusing on ourselves first.
I agree, I believe that instead of using natural resources to fuel our inventions, using renewable energy such as wind would keep the natural resources, while preventing the spread of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
I think this perspective on the issue is very well thought out. While we take from the planet, we should also be finding new ways to give back to it so that we are not constantly killing it. There are many different kinds of renewable energy that we could use instead of fossil fuels but it takes more than just that. Being able to change our lifestyles is a huge factor that really does make a difference. By using less electricity and saving water by turning the sink off while we brush our teeth and taking shorter showers, we can all help our planet.
Global warming is a serious issue and it is doing some major damage to our planet. If we want to protect the Earth, then we need to start changing our lifestyles now, not later.
Drastic action needs to be taken quickly in order to combat climate change, and widespread sacrifices of lifestyle need to be made. As it seems to be turning out, this burden, as well of those of rapid and useful innovation to find solutions to global warming, are falling on the current younger generations to bear. It is the duty of every person with the ability to reduce, reuse, and recycle to do so, to adopt composting, to turn off lights and sinks when they aren’t being used, and to buy electric vehicles. If these standards aren’t met, it could soon be our duty to eat only vegetables and insects, and to deny themselves international travel. These are quotas that I am willing to meet for the sake of our planet, but still not a situation I want to see humanity face.
As kids, it may seem difficult to change your family's carbon footprint, especially since we are not the ones in control. But there are many things we can do instead! First off all, we can educate ourselves and our parents on issues like global warming and climate change, as well as the ways that we can help reduce our carbon footprint. This might encourage them to reduce their carbon footprint, and possibly changing their habits in order to limit the amount of greenhouse gases they are producing. We can also set an example at places like school, and frequently recycle and reuse materials.
We can also reduce spending on things like clothes, especially when we don’t need it. Even though things may seem like we are not in control, we can do so much for the world and educate everyone about the issues that are happening, along with the importance of it. We can make an effort and make an impact! Even if just a couple people change their habits because of what they learn from you, it makes a difference for our world. ![]()
The overuse of plastic is really harming the environment. It's not fair to marine life to keep using their habitats as trash cans. It's estimated that 13 million metric tons end up in the ocean each year. To do your part, reduce your plastic use. Use a metal straw, a reusable water bottle, whatever you can think of. Save your planet !
Our planet is undergoing severe climate changes, pollution and waste killing millions and billions of animals, and so much more. Most of these are caused by people's Carbon Footprints. Now it's time for action. Let's try to buy only the things we need, recycle things that can be recycled, save energy by turning off the lights or any electronics when we're not using them, and whatever else we can do to lower our carbon footprints!
It's pretty easy though~ just try your best to save Earth! We can use green things to stop harming the environment. For example, save power by turning off the lights and air conditions when you don't need them.
Now it's time for us to take action to save our environment and our planet. We should stand up and make a change by being a volunteer to clean our community, recycle plastics or aluminum, shop wisely, stop littering, and plant trees. Sometimes people don't care much about our environment, but we have to do something for them to know and care about our surroundings.
Start making more sustainable purchases. Count down on the use of plastics as well!
Guys it truley isen´t that hard. We are harming the enviorment because of humans doing movments without them even relizing. For example we forget to turn the lighs off when we leave a room. We use the car too much or we never recyle and more. Those are really simple to fix for example instead of cars we can use our bikes or even walk to get around places. We can reycle eavry now and then for example each Tuseday and from there it increases.
So help me find more solutions and topics that we can fix togethers.
I think that we have to do something now.
In my personal opinion in these years we prefer to use the car or some public transport, but this isn't normal.
I also think that when we want to hang out with some of our friends we should go
by bicycle or maybe we should do a walk.
And now the price of gasoline is higher, which is one more reason to go for a walk with our friends.
Yes, I agree that if we want to hang out with friends we should go by a bicycle or a walk but if we are going long distances it is more necessary to use a vehicle especially if you aren’t living in an urban area with different sources of transportation.
I agree. I personally live close to a lot of places and feel like I should walk places more. Although during the winter months it is often to cold to walk places so this is not always an option. But with the right weather, walking can be an enjoyable way to help save the environment one step at a time.
You can also use bus lines or the train, public transports are often faster than cars because you have to find a place to park. They are cheap and it helps to reduce the CO2 emission. Walking or riding a bicycle is good when you live in the city.
I agree that we must try and use less vehicules, in winter it is more difficult but if you cover yourself well it can be possible.
Hello, yes I totally agree with you, we have to act now. Taking the bike and the public transport, or walking are good options. The world is corrupted by money and so much business is put in petrol.
This is a great point. I found additional information on this topic in a search I conducted which points out the fact that transportation alone makes up around 30% of carbon emissions globally. Of these emissions, upwards of 70% are produced from cars alone. Many of these comments have mentioned biking or walking to destinations instead of driving. Although these options may be viable for certain distances and climates, not everyone will be able to completely remove vehicles from their lives. Because of this, it is important to recognize that there are additional ways to reduce transportational emissions. Some of these ways include carpooling, accessing public transportation, or, if you can afford it, invest in an electric or hybrid car.
I think walking and biking is nice when you live in the same city. But when you are far from your friends you can use public transport. Indeed it is better to use public transport than our own vehicle. It allows to reduce our CO2 emission.
Yes this is a good idea to walk to places and bike and use publoc transportation. But this isent alwas suitable for the types of persons that why we humans like to use cars more then that because we find it more simple and suitable. I think we can also use elecric cars even thougth it dosent do much of a difference it still helps! We can also find ways for humans to prefer puboc transportation instead of there cars. But it also takas time to find public transportation that is willing to take you from one place to another.
If we don’t turn lights off whenever we can, then that will waste electricity. Wasting electricity causes the hole in the North top to grow bigger, making climate change even worse and creating other problems to our world. This isn’t just certain people’s responsibility, everyone has to do this to save our planet Earth from being destroyed just because of the hole on top.
I agree because wasting electricity is bad and can lead to a bigger problem.
plastic waste contributes to climate change because when it breaks down it releases green house gasses. The sunlight and heat causes it to release methane and ethylene as the plastic breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces. Therefor reducing our waste it important as well as taking care of the plastic that already exist.
Im going to re use a water bottle
Same. Reusable water bottle should help
I will use tote bags for my grocery's instead of plastic bags and or paper bags
I can agree that i should definitely start using reusable water bottles instead of bringing the plastic ones everywhere
Yes I agree we can reduce plastic by many ways for example one of them as you mensioned is starting to use reusable water bottles instead of polluting plastic ones. But we have many diferent types of ways to reduce. For example another way it to reduce gas (cars and vehicles). One another way is to use your own bags when you go to a shop instead of getting those plastic ones in the cashier. We just need to get people to lissen to our ideas on how we can reduce plastic waste.
I believe that we all need to switch from using fossil fuels to start using renewable energy to help effect climate change for the better. I think that most people need to start that so we can all make a difference in it. Like using solar panels instead of fossil fuels.
You make a good point. Renewable energy is just as efficient as fossil fuels, and it is much, much better for our environment. You make an extremely good point here.
use social media to share good climate habits!
Eating meat doesn't just kill animals but is also one of the world's largest GHG contributors. According to a global assessment made by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, livestock emits 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. 65% of livestock emissions are produced solely from beef and dairy. Ruminant meat produces 250 times more greenhouse gasses per gram of protein than those of plant-based foods. Everything counts when it comes to climate change whether it is choosing not to get a burger at your favorite restaurant or saying no to meat altogether.
I agree with you. In fact, the process about the making of meat require a lot of water, for the production of only one kilogram of meat, 15,000 liters are needed. Meat is one of the largest distributors of greenhouse gases that negatively affect climate change. That's why it's necessary to stop eating meat, as you said, not only will it reduce the slaughter of a few animals, but it will also reduce a large share of greenhouse gas emissions. It is totally possible to reduce the consumption of meat because reducing meat consumption will not have a negative impact on human health. On the contrary, meat can be replaced by vegetable protein which can have positive effects on human health.
Actually, the reduction of meat consumption can not only have positive effects for the environment but also for human health.
I think consuming meat is harmful to the environment, they should change burger patties with veggies patty to save the environment.
I think that it will be pretty much impossible for everyone to stop eating meat, but I still do agree that not eating meat can help the environment. I just think we don’t need to be so extreme with it. It will still be beneficial to the environment if everyone doesn’t eat meat at least 3 days a week and it will be more likely to happen since the meat-eaters wouldn’t feel so attacked.
I think that if everybody were to stop eating meat, it would help a lot with the climate change but honestly, i don't think we could do that.
also if everyone stopped eating meat it would the animal population but its not possible for everyone to stop eating meat.
I think that everyone should be vegetarian or vegan. its good for the environment and also for our health. if everyone stopped eating meat the world would be a better place overall.
I agree with you that if we all stopped eating meat, the world would be a better place. However, to think more rationally, we could do our part by just reducing meat consumption as of now. I believe that even by reducing meat intake, we can make a huge difference. Meat and fish in small quantities can be a great source of protein for humans. According to Healthline.com, “Meat is an excellent source of protein and several vitamins and minerals, including vitamin B12, niacin, and selenium”. I understand that you can get protein in many other ways, but meat is one of the best sources. As I said above, reducing meat, especially red meat, can significantly impact your carbon footprint and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. According to NYTimes, “So, according to a study this month in the journal Scientific Reports, if everyone in the country reduced their consumption of beef, pork, and poultry by a quarter and substituted plant proteins, we would save about 82 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year”. I love animals and want to help stop climate change in the most ways possible, but it has been hard to cut meat from my diet entirely from personal experience. I respect people who are vegetarians and vegans, and I slowly hope to get there soon. For now, I have tried hard to cut the amount of meat I eat. I think reducing your meat intake to 2-3 days out of the week can keep you healthy and help the planet.

Yes I agree with you, but meat is good for our health.
For example : I suffer from anemia ( anemia is an abnormal drop in the level of hemoglobin in the blood). In the red meat, there is iron which is good to make anemia disappear. For it, I eat meat once a week. When I eat meat I fell better. Of course I don't consume a lot of meat.
However, I against to kill animals obviously
I dont agree with you in my opinion we are like all the other animals and we need to eat meats for being in good health
I think we shouldn't stop eating meat, but we should try to reduce. For example, we can eat vegetarian once a week at school.
I agree and disagree with this post. Eating meat can be a healthy thing and it can help with things like iron deficiency but as a community, we eat way too much meat which is what is causing all of these problems. The meat that we do eat should come from the wild not born and bred in factories especially cows because of the amount of methane that they release into the atmosphere. “To produce 1kg of wheat, 2.5kg of greenhouse gases are emitted. A single kilo of beef, meanwhile, creates 70Kg of emissions.” This fact in itself should be what tells people to stop factory farming meat, but if that’s not enough, meat production is responsible for ⅓ of the greenhouse gasses released into the air. Meat production is not only bad for the environment but for the animals as well, in factory farms animals are crammed together in cages way too small for them and fed food whose sole purpose is to make them fat, and then they are slaughtered. Climate change is real and it's predicted that if greenhouse gasses keep getting released into the environment at this rate then by the end of this century around ⅓ of natural food production will be at risk. This is not a drill, this is happening to our planet and we need to do something about it, you can start by cutting down or stopping your meat intake.

I agree that we should reduce the amount of meat we eat but i think it would be going a few to many steps a time to say we should stop eating it entirely.
I a going to use cold water when i am washing clothes
I should do these things because than my carbon footprint would be at least a little lower
We are in a climate emergency. A survey was published in 2020 that included results from 15 major producer countries stating that by 2030, the amount of “global gas output” is predicted to increase the most between 2020 and 2040. It estimates that the global gas output is going to be about 71 percent higher than the 1.5°C limit established by the Paris Agreement, an international treaty for climate change, which is to limit global warming to less than 2°C. The estimated amount of coal would be 240 percent higher, the amount of oil 57 percent higher, and the amount of fossil fuels 110 percent higher. In order for this agreement to be kept, the production of fossil fuels must start declining now. We must also note that it is impossible for us to stop contributing to climate change altogether, as some of our daily needs require driving and using food concealed in plastic packaging. However, it is also important to note that we as individuals have an impact on climate change and should do whatever we can to reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses we emit into the atmosphere. Climate change is not going to get better, and we cannot let it continue getting out of hand.
Some things that we can do to help:
- turn off your lights, fans, and other appliances when not in use
- use blankets or space heaters as opposed to full house heaters (or vice versa when it’s hot)
- replace light bulbs with lower energy light bulbs
- use public transportation more frequently/ carpool
- eat less red meat
- spread the word, take action, be the first in your family, community, town, to step up.
i believe that dams need to be removed because they emit a lot of greenhouse gases.
