About Us

The Harborview Madison Clinic provides medical care and social services for persons living with HIV/AIDS regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, or ability to pay. The Madison Clinic also provides medical care to HIV-negative persons who might benefit from having an HIV/AIDS expert involved in their medical care, including persons who are interested in Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention.

Harborview Medical Center is affiliated with the University of Washington and is recognized nationally for its patient care, teaching, and research in HIV-related diseases. Each patient is a partner in the management of HIV/AIDS (or HIV/AIDS risk for those who are HIV-negative) as well as other health concerns. Patients are encouraged to ask questions, understand the reasons for tests and procedures, and let us know how we can help.

Each patient has a primary care provider who follows them over time and coordinates referrals to specialists as needed. For HIV-positive patients, the Madison Clinic has comprehensive wrap-around services at our main Harborview location. Other members of a patient’s care team include nurses, pharmacists, social workers, a nutritionist, a health educator, and specialists (acupuncture, dermatology, neurology, obstetrics, hepatitis co-infection, oncology, and psychiatry). Extensive case management is the hallmark of HIV/AIDS care at Harborview, and everything is done to coordinate care and reassure patients that this complex illness is being addressed comprehensively.

Other Harborview clinics and services may be appropriate for care, including the AIDS Clinical Trials Unit, Infectious Disease Clinic (through Madison Clinic), Physical Therapy, Pain Management Clinic, and Seattle-King County Public Health’s Sexually Transmitted Diseases program. We have also expanded our HIV clinical services to Satellite Clinics in Kitsap County Health District, which is located in Bremerton, WA; Snohomish County Health District in Everett, WA; SeaMar Community Health Center in Olympia, WA; and University of Washington Neighborhood Clinic in Federal Way, WA. For patients served at Madison Clinic who reside outside King County, we collaborate with outside organizations for HIV case management.

Free health care information and classes are also offered through Harborview’s Patient and Family Resource Center.
