Signing-up for eCare

What is eCare?

eCare is a way that patients can access aspects of their medical chart anytime and anywhere that they have access to the internet. eCare provides access through a web browser to future appointment times, referrals, lab results, and even medical chart notes. It also allows a patient to send a message directly to their care team.

Basic instructions for eCare sign-up:

  1. Using a web browser (eg. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, Firefox), go to the website:

Look at the right side of the screen. You should see a few buttons and links, including a brownish “New User? Sign up Now” button. Click that button to sign up for the first time.

Once you have your account set up, you will return to to sign in, but you will then use the “username” and “password” fields that you see at the right side of the screen.

You will also see a few handy links on the right side of the screen, including “FAQs” which has frequently asked questions and answer about using eCare.

  1. Fill in the information about you that is requested. You will need an eCare “access code” to complete this form. You might have been given one at your last doctor visit in the clinic. If you don’t have one or have lost it, call the eCare help desk:

They will be able to give you an access code and help you through the sign-up process if you have any other problems. You can also call the Madison Clinic and request help (call the contact center at 206-520-5000 and request to speak with the Madison Clinic front desk).

  1. Once you’re through the first screen that asks for your “access code,” you will be able to choose a username and password. This username and password is what you will use in the future to log in to eCare. If you ever forget your username or password or have trouble accessing eCare, you can always call the help desk (206-520-8963).
  1. It is a good idea to save the eCare web address as a “bookmark” if you have regular access to a computer. If you access eCare from a public computer or from someone else’s computer, you can easily find this website by going to and searching for “UW Medicine eCare”.
