Coming to LibLearnX? Come to our session during the on Sunday, January 26th from 2:30 – 3:30.

We will be presenting on how to navigate misinformation during one-on-one conversations with patrons. We will present a brief overview of why people believe misinformation and approaches library workers can use during interactions with patrons. Using a set of scenarios, attendees will work in small groups to practice using these approaches. Attendees will also have an opportunity to learn from each other about how they navigate similar situations in their own libraries.

Attendees will leave the session with an approach of how to manage interactions with patrons regarding problematic information and tip sheets based on scenarios. By leveraging these tools, attendees will feel more confident interacting one-on-one with patrons in situations involving potential misinformation.

Presenters:

  • Kristen Calvert, Central Library and Events Administrator, Dallas Public Library
  • Chris Jowaisas, Senior Research Scientist, University of Washington Information School
  • Stacey Wedlake, Research Scientist, University of Washington Information School

If you can’t join us in-person, we will share the conference materials afterwards on the EIC website.
