[MBAA] Leading Across Boundaries (LABs) #1 – History of UW Leadership in Rowing @ UW Waterfront Activities Center
Dec 1 @ 11:30 am – 1:30 pm

Join us for lunch, and a tour of the historic ASUW Shell House (home of The Boys in the Boat) on the Montlake Cut. Take time to learn about the past and leadership in your surrounding community to create a guide for planning for your future.

It has been many things to many groups of people, including roots with Boeing. Originally built in 1918 by the Navy as a sea plane hangar, then to Washington Crew, and George Pocock’s workshop just upstairs from 1920-1949.

It is already on the National Registry of historic places, and we are now embarking on the nomination process to make it a Seattle Landmark. Our hope is by restoring the building, we will bring campus and our community back to the water. It is truly another entrance to campus, and will be added to our list of beloved buildings that both inspire and cause us to reflect like Suzzallo Library, and the Fountain at Rainier Vista. We plan to curate the walls with the history of Washington Rowing, and the innovation of George Pocock and our links to Boeing and INNOVATION that sets Seattle apart.
