The broad and long-term goal of the IDPO Core is to provide a mentored research training program in basic research, clinical research,
and ethics that will inspire and prepare talented new investigators to address the critical needs of individuals
with muscular dystrophy, develop programs that engage researchers in the greater northwest in muscular
dystrophy research, and increase awareness of muscular dystrophy and related research efforts by the
public and patient communities.
The IDPO Core is working to provide a mentored research program for pre- and post-doctoral
trainees pursuing pilot and feasibility studies in basic research, clinical research and ethics related to human
muscular dystrophies. The core is supporting meetings and seminars with both outside speakers and internal
speakers for the scientific MDCRC community and will also include outreach presentations to interested non-scientific
audiences. Laurie Hassell, the WWAMI program operator in coordination with Seattle Wellstone IDPO, is promoting muscular dystrophy research communication across the five state
Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WWAMI) region among investigators, students and the
patient communities.Toward this aim we haverecently created a series of videos highlighting UW muscular dystrophy research: http://www.healthcarevlogs.com
