Instructor I am a graduate of Kings College Physician Assistant Program. I have lived in the Anchorage area for the last 6 years and currently practice at the Alaska Native Medical Center Emergency Department. Five years ago, I became a part time faculty member with the University of Washington MEDEX Northwest Physician Assistant Training Program, Anchorage site. Shortly after joining MEDEX, I was introduced to the DENTEX Program. In my work at the hospital, I was all to familiar with the dental needs of Alaska, and the limitations concerning access to care. In learning about DENTEX and the Dental Health Aide Therapists, I was excited to take a position to help expand access to dental care in the villages. For the last few years I have helped teach the General Science course in the didactic year. I am grateful to be a part of this program and proud of the difference it makes in access to healthcare!

“Alaska is a big state and access can be difficult especially with the conditions of weather or with the expensive of travel. So having a DHAT placed in a village setting is both rewarding and beneficial for the people. I see the dental therapists as a new mainstream for dental prevention, working together as a team with all occupations of the dental field. We’re a new kind of provider, a profession that has so much promise to the future of oral health. I see all the smiles and gratitude the patients have for the services we provide and I’m proud to be here helping. It warms my heart and gives me the sense that I’m doing something right.”
