Scholarships like the Boren and CLS provide funding to U.S. citizen students at varying levels of proficiency to study languages considered to be &#8220;critical&#8221; to US interests. These sessions will provide an overview of the scholarships and insights on how to develop competitive applications.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/expo.uw.edu\/expo\/rsvp\/event\/728\"><strong>Boren &amp; CLS Information Session<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0|Mary Gates Hall 171 &amp;\u00a0Online!| October 30| 4:00pm<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/expo.uw.edu\/expo\/rsvp\/event\/847\">Boren Awards Information Session<\/a><\/u><\/strong>\u00a0(Boren only)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>November 18 | 4:30 pm | MGH 171 &amp;\u00a0Online<\/li>\n<li>November 21 | 4:30 pm | MGH 171 &amp;\u00a0Online<\/li>\n<li>December 4 | 4:00 pm | MGH 171 &amp;\u00a0Online<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Boren Awards Highlights:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open to U.S. citizens<\/li>\n<li>Up to\u00a0<strong>$20,000<\/strong>\u00a0for undergraduates who study language abroad during the academic year (semester or longer)<\/li>\n<li>Must be studying a language abroad (list of preferred languages\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.borenawards.org\/eligible-programs#languages\">here)<\/a><\/u><\/li>\n<li>Up to $8,000 for STEM students to study a language abroad during the summer.<\/li>\n<li>Up to\u00a0<strong>$30,000<\/strong>\u00a0for graduate students who will study a language abroad.<\/li>\n<li>Selected students must commit to working for in the federal government for one year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Critical Language Scholarship Highlights:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open to U.S. citizen undergraduates and graduates in every field.<\/li>\n<li>Fully funded intensive language and cultural immersion program (FREE)!<\/li>\n<li>Languages offered are: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu.<\/li>\n<li>Program includes cultural activities, field trips, room &amp; board, and travel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Join us for an introduction to\u00a0Boren\u00a0and\u00a0Critical Language Scholarships\u00a0for study abroad.
