{"id":15245,"date":"2024-11-01T17:23:49","date_gmt":"2024-11-02T00:23:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/mswnews\/?p=15245"},"modified":"2026-04-20T10:06:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T17:06:17","slug":"winter-quarter-registration-2025-reminder-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/mswnews\/2024\/11\/winter-quarter-registration-2025-reminder-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter Quarter Registration 2025 Reminder &#038; Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A reminder that winter registration is happening:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Thursday, Oct. 31st at 6am:<\/strong>&nbsp;Registration for students with disability accommodation for priority registration and Veterans, Active Service, dependents, etc. has already started.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monday, Nov. 4th at 6am:<\/strong>&nbsp;All other MSW Students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>Please see below for updates and clarifications regarding registration:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Soc W 506\/574&nbsp;<\/strong>&#8211;&nbsp;<strong>A specialized research course is&nbsp;<u>required<\/u>&nbsp;regardless of your specialization<\/strong>. To hopefully clear up some confusion about the specialized research requirement for DAY 2 students &#8211; We&#8217;re offering different classes this winter and spring that meet the 506\/574 requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of those offerings are priority for EDP students on the evening or weekend schedule. Some are priority for DAY students that are offered during the day-time. And some will be jointly offered on varied schedules. For more info about the options, please see&nbsp;this canvas page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>For Winter Quarter<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>DAY students<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; 506A: Qualitative Methods (policy) course is on Thursdays at 8:30am, 506C: Community-Based Participatory research class on Fridays at 11:30am, and 574 class on Thursdays at 8:30.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>EDP students<\/strong>, 506 on Tuesday evening and 574 on Saturdays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>For Spring Quarter<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>DAY students<\/strong>&nbsp;in spring, we are planning day-time sections of 506: Qualitative Methods and 574 Program Evaluation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>EDP and Day students<\/strong>, we are planning joint sections of 506 Community-based Participatory Research and 574 Program Evaluation on evening and weekend schedules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Soc W 571<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; we seem to be very close to confirming an instructor and anticipate the weekly remote synchronous sessions (which includes 4 mandatory sessions) will be on Monday evenings, 6-8:50pm. We are hoping to schedule makeup sessions for the 4 mandatory sessions during the day on either Thursdays or Fridays, to make up for the delayed scheduling of this course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Soc W 588<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; Priority is for students in their specialized (525) practicum in a K-12 setting serving students and those who were in K-12 placements last year in 524. We have emailed those students and that group should be able to register when registration opens on the above dates.&nbsp; Any remaining spots will be opened up to DAY students graduating this year when period 2 registration begins on 11\/18.&nbsp; There will be another section in spring that will be accessible to both graduating EDP and DAY students. First year students who are in K-12 placements this year will be prioritized next year for the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Spring Electives &#8211;&nbsp;<\/strong>We have created a canvas page that includes the&nbsp;Spring electives that we PROJECT to offer.&nbsp; We\u2019re still confirming some instructors and classes, but this will give you an idea of what we\u2019ll likely offer.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>Additional Updates:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><u>CCIP students<\/u><\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; 534 will meet on Fridays at 11:30 instead of Thursdays at 11:30. Please do not register for that class until the day\/time has changed. We\u2019ll send out a notification to let you know when the course is updated. Additionally, Soc W 527 will now be offered in spring quarter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><u>Electives for Day 1 students<\/u><\/strong>, although not templated for an elective in winter quarter, may register for Soc W 576 and Soc W 596I during period 1 on 11\/4. Add codes are required for 596I (see time schedule for who to contact). Descriptions on&nbsp;this canvas page. Students taking Soc W 504, 511, 512, and 524 are registered for a full-time load, so there is no expectation of taking an elective in winter (and we actually discourage it).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As usual for registration, we\u2019ll be staffing the&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:mswadvising@uw.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mswadvising@uw.edu<\/a>&nbsp;inbox beginning at 6am on Monday if you have any questions.
