REHAB 562: Neuroscience in Rehabilitation The intent of this course is to foster the development of knowledge and skills related to: 1) the neural control of human movement and behavior; 2) dysfunction resulting from neurologic pathology; and 3) methodological approaches to investigating the neural control of movement and behavior. This course will provide an introduction to current concepts in motor control, motor learning, and neural plasticity as they relate to people with neurologic pathology and to rehabilitation science. Additional special topics will include regenerative medicine and neural engineering. Various methodologies that are used to understand the neural control of human movement and behavior will be considered, including cellular neurophysiology, systems neuroscience, movement and behavioral analyses, and neuro-imaging. This course provides opportunities to foster increased independence in a variety of essential research skills, including 1) critical inquiry skills; 2) experimental design; 3) research proposal development; and 3) scientific writing skills, including grant writing. This course will be run as a seminar with substantial involvement from participants. The class format will include lectures, group discussions, review and discussion of journal articles, and participant presentations.<\/p>\n
