{"id":5195,"date":"2014-11-20T10:23:11","date_gmt":"2014-11-20T18:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/mswnews\/?p=5195"},"modified":"2026-04-21T19:41:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T02:41:10","slug":"ghhserv-544-maternal-and-child-health-in-developing-countries-3-credits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/mswnews\/2014\/11\/ghhserv-544-maternal-and-child-health-in-developing-countries-3-credits\/","title":{"rendered":"GH\/HSERV 544 Maternal and Child Health in Developing Countries  (3 credits)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WIN Quarter<br \/>\nT, Th 9-10:20<br \/>\nRoom I 132<br \/>\nClass size is limited to 30 (Health Services and Global Health graduate students may enroll without instructor permission; others may request an add code from the instructor)<\/p>\n<p>This is a great class for those who plan to work in or learn more about practical approaches to improve maternal and child<br \/>\nhealth in resource limited settings.<\/p>\n<p>The course utilizes lectures as well as interactive teaching methods\u2014small group work and in-class exercises and discussions\u2014to<br \/>\ncover:<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Critical health problems of women and children in social, economic, and cultural contexts<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Programmatic interventions and practical strategies that respond to those problems<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 MCH proposal development, community involvement and program implementation and management.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->While the course is particularly designed for graduate students who have had some exposure to living and working conditions in<br \/>\nresource limited settings, such experience is not required.<\/p>\n<p>This course is required for the Global Women, Adolescents, and Children Health Certificate Program and one of three courses<br \/>\nthat can serve as a requirement for the Global Health Certificate.
