{"id":9961,"date":"2019-04-26T14:17:41","date_gmt":"2019-04-26T21:17:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/mswnews\/?p=9961"},"modified":"2026-04-21T19:40:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T02:40:40","slug":"summer-paid-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/mswnews\/2019\/04\/summer-paid-job\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Paid job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Summer Paid job working with economically disadvantaged Maine youth in an amazing natural setting!<\/p>\n<p>Camp Susan Curtis is a non-profit overnight camp in Maine that has been serving economically disadvantaged youth in Maine for 40 years (most kids attend free and are referred by school counselors).<\/p>\n<p>The pay is $2300-$2800 for 9 weeks, plus room, board and more fun than you can stand!\u00a0 (I believe you can also use summer work-study if you have it).<\/p>\n<p>Their programming is holistic and continues into the school year and into the teen years.<\/p>\n<p>The camp is located about 1.5 hours from Portland, Maine on the edge of the White Mountain National Forest.\u00a0 The camp is the only development on the lake and has a ropes course, theatre, freshwater swimming, a hiking\/canoeing program and more (is also ACA Accredited.)<\/p>\n<p>More Info: <\/p>\n<p>Personal Note: This is the camp I attended as a camper in 1974 and later was a counselor, trip director, asst waterfront director, among other roles, for 7 summers.\u00a0 I still go back to visit often and the camp itself is amazing but the current camp director is wonderful \u2013 thoughtful, visionary, relaxed.\u00a0 If I could go back and work, I would.\u00a0 They just posted that they are full for campers this summer but their staffing applications are really low.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have a summer job yet, please consider applying.\u00a0 Feel free to ask me questions.\u00a0 Lin Murdock, <a href=\"mailto:linm@uw.edu\">linm@uw.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summer Paid job working with economically disadvantaged Maine youth in an amazing natural setting!
