This work is from a series of ink & graphite drawings Juan Alonso-Rodriguíz created during a three week residency in Palm Desert, CA. Alonso writes that his paintings are “an on-going exploration of abstraction based on forms both found in nature and those conceived by human ingenuity. I am influenced by balance, perceived symmetry, architecture, growth & decay, patterns, surfaces, history, my dual Cuban/American culture, weathered beauty, and the tug-of-war between the natural and the man-made landscape.” Alonso came to Seattle in 1982, where he has lived since. He creates studio and public works, and is a prominent community activist and arts advocate.
