Originally founded as a program within the Department of Pediatrics, the Division of Pediatric Neurology has been a part of the Department of Neurology since 1995 and now comprises over 30 faculty. Each year, over 15,000 children with neurologic disorders from across the WAMI region are seen by the clinicians in the division in locations in Seattle and across the region.  The divisions of Pediatric Neurology and Neurosurgery are ranked in top 10 in the nation on U.S. News & World Report’s 2019-20 Honor Roll of Best Children’s Hospitals.  In addition to general neurology, the division includes specialized clinical programs in Epilepsy (including genetic epilepsies, epilepsy surgery and the Ketogenic Diet), neuromuscular, movement, demyelinating and mitochondrial disorders, neurofibromatosis and tuberous sclerosis, vascular neurology, headache, neonatal neurology and neurocritical care. Members of the division are also engaged in clinical and basic research related to mitochondrial and neuromuscular disorders, neuroinflammation, perinatal brain injuries, stroke, status epilepticus, refractory epilepsies, headache, neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis, cardiac arrest and predictive analytics.   The division also supports fellowship training in pediatric epilepsy, pediatric neurocritical care, vascular neurology and neuromuscular disorders.
