    A federal SUID/SIDS workgroup created this copyright free Flickr photo collection depicting infants in safe sleep environments and parents practicing the ABCs of safe sleep.
  • Web-Ready Photos of Safe Sleep
    This selection of image is free to use for education purposes from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development's Safe to Sleep Campaign.
  • Safe Sleep Image Guidelines
    First Candle developed these guidelines for bloggers, photographers, and others who want to help reinforce safe sleep practices.
  • Modeling Safe Practices: A Checklist for Infant Sleep & Breastfeeding Images
    The National Action Partnership to Promote Safe Sleep compiled a printable checklist for organizations to use when reviewing their photo resources for parents and caregivers. Includes instruction for infant sleep and feeding positions, sleep environment, and more.

RESEARCH ON SUID and SIDS

NATIONAL INTERVENTIONS TO REDUCE SIDS/SUID

  • First Candle (formerly the SIDS Alliance)
    A national nonprofit health organization that unites parents, caregivers, and researchers nationwide with government, business, and community service groups to advance infant health and survival. First Candle provides information on SIDS and safe sleep to new and expecting parents as well as grief-related information and services for those who have lost a child.
  • Safe to Sleep Campaign
    Created as the Back to Sleep Campaign in 1994 by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) in partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration, the SIDS Alliance (now First Candle), and the Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs. The campaign builds on the successes of Back to Sleep to address SIDS and other sleep-related causes of infant death and to continue spreading safe sleep messages to members of all communities. In addition, research supported and conducted by the NICHD has broadened scientific understanding of SIDS.
  • National Action Partnership to Promote Safe Sleep Improvement and Innovation Network (NAPPSS-IIN)
    An initiative to make infant safe sleep and breastfeeding the national norm by aligning stakeholders to test safety bundles in multiple care settings to improve the likelihood that infant caregivers and families receive consistent, evidence-based instruction about safe sleep and breastfeeding.
  • American SIDS Institute
    A national nonprofit health care organization working toward the prevention of sudden infant death and the promotion of infant health through an aggressive, comprehensive nationwide program of research on cause and prevention, education, and family support.
  • Cribs for Kids
    A national organization dedicated to partnering with hospitals, non-profits, corporations, and public service agencies to provide safe sleep education, cribs, and more to families in need as well as Hospital Certification in safe sleep practices.

  • Northwest Infant Survival & SIDS Alliance (NISSA)
    Nonprofit dedicated to reducing the number of SIDS/SUID in Washington state through education to professionals and the general public, supporting research, and providing information and support to bereaved families.
  • Inland Northwest SIDS Foundation, Inc.
    A nationally recognized 501C3 dedicated to educating the public on safe infant sleep, bringing awareness to SIDS/SUID and providing emotional support to those who have experienced a pregnancy, infant or child loss.
