Scholarship opportunities and WIN 2022 Class on Portuguese for Spanish Speakers

There are some grant opportunities for students taking Portuguese language classes at the UW, such as FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies), Boren Scholarship, Fulbright, and CLS (Critical Language Scholarship). The only downside is that students need to be US residents (green card holders) or US citizens.

PORT 105 – Portuguese for Spanish Speakers, 6 credits

M-F, 11:30-12:20

This is an intensive Portuguese course for Spanish speakers.

COURSE HIGHLIGHTS:
• Eligibility to apply for Federal grants: FLAS, CLS, Boren Scholarships and Fulbright.
• Conversation sessions in The Portuguese Seattle Meetup group.
• Minor in Portuguese Available.

PORT 365/ JSIS A 365, 5 credits, VLPA, I&S (Offered in English)

Luso-Brazilian Apocalyptic Traditions 

T/Th – 1:30-3:20 (Offered in person)

This course will look at several cultural and literary
representations of Portugal, Angola, and Brazil through
Apocalyptic thoughts. We will explore the works of the Nobel
prize recipient of Literature from Portugal, José Saramago,
the Angolan writer Pepetela, and the Brazilian writer
Ignácio de Loyola Brandão.
