Exploring religion and identity
One of Many is a large event where students, faith leaders, and community members will engage in an interfaith dialogue by sharing stories about the ways religion influences our values, norms, and policies. Rather than tokenizing a single identity, this conversation seeks to create a space that recognizes the complex ways religion contributes to diverse identities in order to create a more inclusive campus community.
At the event, participants will listen to selected stories of how faith has impacted an individual's student identity. Small groups will build conversations by sharing stories and experiences over a light dinner.

Leadership Team
Claire Butwinick
Claire is a senior at the University of Washington studying Journalism and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. She is an editorial assistant at GRAY Magazine and a writer for Rainy Dawg Radio. Claire's work has been published in national and regional publications including GRAY Magazine, The Riveter Magazine, and Shoreline Area News. She was also nominated for a Hearst National Journalism Award in Autumn 2018. She hopes to continue her growth in journalism, public relations, and marketing post graduation. Claire hails originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota but has been happy to call Seattle home since 2015.
Nick Goodwin
Nick is a student that is studying Education and Law at the University of Washington. He is from Kirkland, Washington. He enjoys working with others to solve problems with integrity. He is passionate about entrepreneurship, lifelong learning, and service. He is currently the service chair at the 17th Ave House, a community housing program with 55 members located near the University of Washington. He has worked as an orientation leader for UW to help integrate low-income students and serve them so they can better navigate their college experience. He currently works for Youth Care, a non-profit that works along side the homeless population in the Youth district. He is motivated to pursue a career that he can bring energy and joy to every day. His current life passion is to serve others that are living in situations of low-income and better their lives any way he can.
Regan Gong
Regan is a senior studying Psychology and International Studies: Comparative Religion. She plans on attending graduate school to explore the impacts of social bias on policy creation. She is a Tour Guide for the Campus Visit Program under the UW Office of Admissions, an active member of the Interdisciplinary Honors Program and an avid explorer of the outdoors. She enjoys collaborating with the UW community to create more dialogue about the role of religion has on politics and what it means for student identities in hopes of creating a more inclusive environment.
Taylor Halverson
Taylor is a junior studying Communications and Scandinavian Studies. She is interested specifically in media representation and the impact that its messages has on audiences. Luckily, her favorite past-times — rapidly consuming TV shows, movies, and stand up comedy — have provided her plenty of content for analysis. You may have seen her as a performer in the 2018 ______ Monologues, sitting in the Interdisciplinary Honors Program lounge, or in the Law Library where she works at the circulation desk. Though originally from West Seattle, Taylor spent most of her middle and high school years on Whidbey Island and is excited to be back in the city.
Shahbaz Khan
Shahbaz Khan is a Creative Writing B.A. set to graduate in spring. Originally from Kansas, he's been living in western Washington since 2005, currently based in Bothell. In addition to being the graphic designer for this event, Shahbaz is also an actor, stage director, and screenwriter, in addition to pulling double-duty as a staff writer/illustrator for The Daily at the UW. Sarah Rose Shuer
Sarah Rose is a junior who is double majoring in Education and International Studies. Her passion for interfaith dialogue stems from her deep involvement with Kids4Peace, which is a global grassroots effort that promotes peace through interfaith dialogue, community building, leadership development, and nonviolent communications. Kids4Peace has taught her about conflict resolution, the importance of social justice for everyone, and the power in understanding that there is always another side to the story. When she’s not in class you may find her teaching kindergarten at her local synagogue, working at Hillel, watching Forrest Gump. exploring the great outdoors, or taking dogs for walks. She was born and raised in Windham, Maine and has called Seattle home since 2013.
About the Husky Seed Fund
The Husky Seed Fund brings to life innovative ideas by students that enhance the Husky Experience across the University. Managed by UW students, with support from the Office of the Provost, the seed fund awards funds for projects such as events that bring together students from many backgrounds and disciplines, journals that highlight student work and research, and podcasts that tell student stories.
