We were honored to have Mr. Ya Shu Chao(\u8d99\u96c5\u66f8) as a speaker of our monthly community forum.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/oralhist\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0297.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-547\" src=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/oralhist\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0297.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0297\" width=\"2592\" height=\"1728\" srcset=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/oralhist\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0297.jpg 2592w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/oralhist\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0297-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/oralhist\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0297-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2592px) 100vw, 2592px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Prof. Chao got his PhD in history from National Taiwan University and has studied in Harvard University, University of Washington, and Kyoto University. He is a professor of history in National Taiwan University and visiting professor in University of Washington, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Prof. Chao has prolific expertise in Chinese history and taught a number of courses such as general history of China, history of Chinese economics, history of Chinese agriculture, history of Song Dynasty, Chinese modern history, introduction of Japan, etc.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/oralhist\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0302.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-549\" src=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/oralhist\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0302.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0302\" width=\"1619\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/oralhist\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0302.jpg 1619w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/oralhist\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0302-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/oralhist\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_0302-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1619px) 100vw, 1619px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Prof. Chao took his residency in Seattle after retirement and actively participated in community activities. He has been president of Zheng-He Society of Americas, Kiangsu and Chekiang Residents Association. Prof. Chao currently works on rearrangement of his publications, translation of Japanese master Motonosuke Amano (\u5929\u91ce\u5143\u4e4b\u52a9)\u2019s book \u4e2d\u56fd\u53e4\u519c\u4e66\u8003, and a book of his experience and perspectives on Chinese modern history from 20th to 21st century as a professional of history studies.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Next month, Sunday, Feb. 21st, 2016.
