Beyond Campus

VOWThere are lots of opportunities for having fun in the Seattle area. Whether you are a native of Washington or recently moved to the area, there are always new places to discover and old favorites to visit over and over again.

The UW campus offers many interesting places to visit and breathtaking views. As you walk through campus look up at the gargoyles on the buildings, or the various types of native plants throughout the numerous gardens. There are many museums and libraries you can visit, and of course places to get coffee when you are ready to sit and enjoy the views.

The University district is known for its off-beat character along with the many individuals who call it their home. Along the Ave (University Avenue) you will find lots of eating & shopping opportunities. Saturday’s you can visit the Farmer’s Market on 50th and the Ave to pick up freshly grown produce, baked goods, flowers along with hand-crafted items.

Other neighborhoods are a short walk or bike ride away. If you have purchased a U-Pass (UW bus pass), you can ride Metro to many local attractions.

If you haven’t been to a zoo lately, the Woodland Park Zoo is a great place to visit. There are beaches, both fresh and salt-water within a short distance. We have mountains that you can climb, parks to play in, lakes to go boating, and trails for bike riding & hiking.

Within a few blocks of the University district there are at least seven theaters, two museums, and a world class arboretum. Numerous churches and places of worship are located nearby, and there are parks and lots of green spaces to take a rest.
