In addition to English, he speaks Spanish and Latin. He has tutored for a total of five years, in Davis as well as in his hometown of Redding, and he has taught writing and composition in the University of Washington PWAC program. His approach to tutoring consists mainly of opening non-directive lines of questioning to help writers articulate their own ideas, in their own words. Their background is in Computer Science, and they are extremely knowledgeable on topics in African American and Native American history, and colonial studies. They are a native speaker of English.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tab-pane fade show\" id=\"content-tab-tour-3\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"title-tab-tour-3\" tabindex=\"0\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-mug-shot is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/owrcweb\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Mandy-150x250.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-424\" width=\"150\" height=\"250\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mandy Macklin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mandy earned her Ph.D. in English (Language &amp; Rhetoric) from the University of Washington, Seattle and M.A. (Rhetoric and Composition) and B.A. (English Literature) from California State University, Northridge. Mandy specializes in writing studies, rhetorical theory, genre studies, and writing program administration. Her work focuses on supporting writing across differences and developing practices that support writers as they negotiate between writing situations, as they assess and adapt to varying demands across the disciplines, and as they translate across writing situations using their writing-related knowledge or repertoires of resources that they have cultivated along the multiple pathways they create and traverse daily. Previously, Mandy served as Assistant Director of the Center for Teaching &amp; Learning and Teaching Faculty at Antioch University Seattle.
