OSU’s Mohammad Rayeedul Kalam Siam Receives Region 10 Michael Kyte Outstanding Student of the Year Award

Each year, PacTrans facilitates the submission and selection of the Region 10 Michael Kyte Outstanding Student of the Year Award. The Region 10 Michael Kyte Outstanding Student of the Year Award is available to any student attending a university in Region 10 (Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Idaho) who participates in UTC funded work. Selection is based on accomplishments in three areas: (1) Technical Merit and Research, (2) Academic Performance, and (3) Professionalism and Leadership. This year, this award went to Oregon State University PhD candidate, Mohammad Rayeedul Kalam Siam.

Prior to joining OSU, Siam worked as a research assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and was responsible for developing an application tool for automatic traffic state measurement in non-lane based heterogeneous traffic condition. At OSU, Siam is conducting interdisciplinary research on smart and resilient urban systems using a network paradigm that bridges the boundaries between civil engineering, network science, and social science. His long-term goal focuses on understanding the spatiotemporal patterns of emergent human evacuation dynamics at both disaggregate and aggregate levels during natural and man-made disasters to design and prototype engineering services and solutions using a combination of machine learning, agent-based simulation, and computational social science. His research works have been sponsored by PacTrans, the National Science Foundation. He has a total of 14 publications (7 peer-reviewed journals, 6 peer-reviewed conference papers, and 1 poster presentation) with topics focusing on an array of topics: traffic flow modelling, connected and/or autonomous vehicles, traffic safety, infrastructure network resilience, and human mobility. He has been contributing to the Transportation Engineering community as a reviewer for Transportation Research Record (TRR): Journal of the Transportation Research Board, American Journal of Traffic & Transportation Engineering, and Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering.

    Congratulations Mohammad!
