    PacTrans PI Wins UI Excellence in Teaching Award

    PacTrans’ PI, and Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Idaho, Kevin Chang, was recently awarded the 2022-2023 Excellence in Teaching Award which is one of the accolades given as part of the University of Idaho’s University Excellence Awards. This is the first time a College of Engineering faculty has won this award in 13 years.

    Professor Chang received the PacTrans Outstanding Educator Award in 2018 and is generally considered a leader in engineering education in the Pacific Northwest. He is the current chair of the Institute of Transportation Engineers’ (ITE) Transportation Education Committee, a member of the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Safety Management Committee, chair of the TRB School Transportation Subcommittee, and past president of the Washington State Section of ITE. He has extensive experience in workforce development and regularly leads transportation engineering webinars for the American Society of Civil Engineers. In his spare time, Chang has been a strong advocate for civic engagement and has volunteered his time by serving as a board member for several non-profit community organizations. Change is the ASCE and ITE faculty advisor and has been recognized as a multiple recipient of the U of I Alumni Awards for Excellence as the most inspiring faculty mentor selected individually by the top forty graduating students each year.

    The University Excellence Awards are given to faculty, staff and graduate students who have shown exemplary dedication to the University of Idaho. These winners are being recognized for their commitment to excellence in serving our institutions.
