Another Summer, Another Successful WA Transportation Camp!

In August, the 2025 PacTrans-WSDOT Washington Transportation Camp wrapped up its third successful year, taking place at:
- Washington State University in Pullman, WA
Pullman, WA – June 27-26, 2025 - University of Washington in Seattle, WA
Seattle, WA – August 3-8, 2025
WA Transportation Camp is a one-week residential high school summer program covering transportation topics such as urban planning, traffic safety, supply chain logistics, and the realm of connected and autonomous vehicles. Students worked on real-world challenges, connected with UW and WSU faculty, and industry professionals, and experienced firsthand how transportation shapes our communities and daily lives.

The primary objective of the program is to increase the number of students pursuing advanced degrees and careers in STEM-related fields associated with transportation. This mission emphasizes a commitment to:
- Encouraging students from all walks of life to consider pursuing a career in transportation
- Increasing awareness about the different career paths available in the transportation industry

This year’s program highlights included:
- Field visits to the Amazon Fulfillment Center, NW Traffic Management Control, PACCAR Test Center, and other local infrastructure sites
- A presentation from WA Secretary of Transportation, Julie Meredith, titled “Changing the world through transportation”, where she shared her own journey through transportation
- Student presentations showcasing creative solutions to transportation challenges in their neighborhoods
The 2025 program was sponsored by PacTrans and WSDOT and was offered free of charge to all participating students. Both camps welcomed ~40 high school students. A huge thank you to our dedicated faculty, staff, and student chaperones for making this camp possible. Most importantly, big thanks to our students, your energy and curiosity makes us confident in the next generation of transportation leaders.

We look forward to continuing to grow this program and expanding opportunities for young people to see themselves in STEM and transportation careers.
