Simulation and Measurement of Vehicle and Operator Performance (AND30)This workshop is aimed at novice users of driving simulators who are not familiar with driving behavior research methods and data analysis techniques. The workshop covers driving simulator hardware and software issues, research topic selection, design and conduct of research, and data analysis methods. Examples of research from traffic operations, traffic control device evaluations, and roadway design will be used to illustrate concepts. This workshop is aimed at novice users of driving simulators who are not familiar with driving behavior research methods and data analysis techniques. As driving simulation technology has become more affordable, an increasing number of universities are purchasing driving simulators for research in traffic operations and roadway design. These users are often new to the field of simulation and driver behavior and have limited knowledge to properly design, execute, and analyze a simulator study. The workhsop will cover driving simulator hardware and software issues, research topic selection, design and conduct of research, and data analysis methods. Examples of research from traffic operations, traffic control device evaluations, and roadway design will be used to illustrate concepts.
