    Professor Rhonda Young Receives PacTrans Outstanding Educator Award

    This year’s PacTrans Outstanding Educator Award goes to Rhonda Young, Chair and a Professor in the Department Civil Engineering at Gonzaga University.

    The PacTrans Outstanding Educator Award is presented to PacTrans faculty in recognition of sustained outstanding teaching including mentoring, advising, and innovative teaching techniques.

    PacTrans Director Yinhai Wang Received Honor of Being Elevated to IEEE Fellow

    As of this coming January, PacTrans Director and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the University of Washington, Yinhai Wang, will receive the great honor of being elevated to IEEE Fellow. Professor Wang was one of only two people elevated by the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society this year. He is joined by Alexandre Bayen, a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley.

    The US Electrical and Electronic Engineering Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), is an international electronic technology and information science engineering society. “IEEE Fellow is a distinction reserved for select IEEE members whose extraordinary accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of this prestigious grade elevation.”

    Professor Jon Froehlich Receives PacTrans Outstanding Researcher Award

    The PacTrans Outstanding Researcher Award, is presented to investigators for outstanding research with significant outcomes, incorporating meaningful student contributions, and robust community service/leadership involvement. This year, PacTrans is pleased to announce this award goes to UW Associate Professor of Computer and Electrical Engineering, Jon Froehlich.

    Professor Froehlich received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Washington in December 2011 where he was a Microsoft Research Graduate Fellow and the 2010 College of Engineering “Graduate Innovator of the Year.” His Ph.D. dissertation entitled “Sensing and Feedback of Everyday Activities to Promote Environmental Behaviors” won numerous awards including the 2012 University of Washington Distinguished Dissertation Award and an honorable mention for the national 2012 Council of Graduate Schools Distinguished Dissertation Award in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Engineering.

    PacTrans Region 10 Transportation Conference Returns to In-Person

    After two years of virtual conferences, the PacTrans Region 10 Transportation Conference returned to in-person this past October. Co-organized by PacTrans, the Center for Safety Equity in Transportation, and the UW Mobility Innovation Center, this one-day event took place on the University of Washington, Seattle campus. With over two hundred in attendance from public agencies, private industry, and academia, the conference focuses on three goals: (1) listen to agencies and industry leaders about their views on critical regional research needs, (2) present UTC funded research to practitioners who may have need of project outputs, and (3) foster partnerships for future collaboration.
