OSU’s UAS in Transportation Expo coming soon

At the end of July, Oregon State University will be hosting the UAS in Transportation Expo, a workshop that will discuss how transportation agencies can properly implement UAS Programs.

The event, sponsored by PacTrans, is set to be held from July 30-31 on OSU’s campus in Corvallis, Oregon, and will be led by Chris Parrish, an Associate Professor for the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at OSU.

Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Programs have been gaining popularity among transportation agencies, and many organizations have already applied them to tasks such as bridge inspections and construction site monitoring. However, despite great advancements made in technology, there are still kinks with the system, and issues regarding maintenance of equipment, personnel training, and data collection, storage, and analysis, among other simple problems, remain.

The expo will attempt to address the challenges agencies might face while using UAS, as well as offer solutions to those challenges and other opportunities in UAS for transportation. The event will also provide drone flight demonstrations and hands-on training with the equipment, and discuss how an organization can effectively initiate and manage a UAS program.
