href=\"https:\/\/calendar.google.com\/calendar\/render?action=TEMPLATE&amp;dates=20250509T173000Z%2F20250509T193000Z&amp;details=%F0%9F%93%8C%20HUB%20250%2C%20UW%0A%E2%8F%B2%EF%B8%8F%20Monday%2C%20May%209%20from%2010%3A30%20AM%20%E2%80%93%2012%3A30%20AM%20PT%0A%F0%9F%92%BC%20This%20event%20is%20free%20%26%20open%20to%20the%20public%21%0A%E2%98%95%20Complimentary%20coffee%20and%20snacks%20provided.%0A%F0%9F%94%97%20Watch%20online%3A%20https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Flive%2Fi6yr5GFc660%0A%0AAbout%20the%20Seminar%3A%0AIn%20a%20transportation%20network%2C%20travelers%20often%20have%20many%20choices%20of%20routes%20between%20their%20origins%20and%20destinations%2C%20and%20a%20consensus%20is%20that%20they%E2%80%99ll%20choose%20the%20shortest%20%28fastest%20or%20cheapest%29%20route.%20%20This%20choice%20process%20often%20involves%20route%20explorations%20and%20adjustments%2C%20which%20usually%20takes%20time%20to%20settle%20to%20a%20so-called%20%E2%80%9Cuser%20equilibrium%E2%80%9D%2C%20under%20which%20travel%20costs%20%28times%2Fdistances%2Ffees%29%20of%20chosen%20routes%20between%20each%20origin%2Fdestination%20pair%20would%20be%20equal%20and%20minimal.%20Travel%20delay%20is%20often%20a%20major%20component%20of%20the%20travel%20cost%2C%20and%20on%20urban%20streets%2C%20it%20is%20highly%20dependent%20on%20how%20the%20traffic%20signal%20is%20timed.%20Traffic%20signal%20timing%2C%20on%20the%20other%20hand%2C%20is%20highly%20influenced%20by%20traffic%20demand%2C%20which%20depends%20on%20travelers%E2%80%99%20choice%20of%20routes.%20This%20forms%20a%20cat-and-mouse%20game%20between%20traffic%20routing%20and%20traffic%20signal%20control.%0AIn%20this%20talk%2C%20we%E2%80%99ll%20examine%20this%20problem%20from%20three%20lens%2C%20with%20each%20lens%20serving%20as%20a%20%E2%80%9Cgame%20console%E2%80%9D%20through%20which%20we%20play%20out%20the%20routing%2Fsignal%20control%20game.%20In%20the%20first%20console%2C%20we%20play%20the%20game%20for%20the%20long%20run%2C%20in%20a%20time%20horizon%20of%205-30%20years.%20In%20the%20second%20console%2C%20we%20play%20the%20game%20for%20middle%20run%2C%20in%20a%20time%20horizon%20of%20days%20to%20weeks.%20In%20the%20third%20and%20final%20console%2C%20we%20play%20the%20game%20for%20the%20short%20run%2C%20in%20a%20time%20horizon%20of%20hours.%20We%E2%80%99ll%20review%20the%20results%20obtained%20under%20these%20game%20settings%20by%20others%20and%20our%20own%20work%20and%20discuss%20their%20implications.%20%0A%0AAbout%20the%20Speaker%3A%0AMichael%20Zhang%20is%20a%20Professor%20in%20the%20Department%20of%20Civil%20and%20Environmental%20Engineering%20at%20the%20University%20of%20California%20Davis.%20He%20is%20also%20a%20faculty%20member%20in%20the%20Graduate%20Programs%20of%20Applied%20Mathematics%2C%20Computer%20Science%2C%20and%20Transportation%20Technology%20and%20Policy%20at%20UC%20Davis.%20Prof.%20Zhang%E2%80%99s%20research%20focuses%20on%20applications%20of%20systems%20theory%20to%20transportation%20systems%20analysis%20and%20operations.%20Specific%20topics%20include%20traffic%20flow%20theory%2C%20traffic%20control%2C%20traffic%20safety%2C%20transportation%20network%20models%2C%20and%20intelligent%20transportation%20systems%20such%20as%20Connected%20and%20Autonomous%20Vehicles.%20%0A%0AProfessor%20Zhang%20is%20one%20of%20the%20longest%20serving%20Associate%20Editors%20of%20Transportation%20Research%2C%20Part%20B%3A%20Methodological.%20He%20also%20served%20as%20an%20Area%20Editor%20of%20the%20Journal%20of%20Networks%20and%20Spatial%20Economics%20and%20Associate%20Editor%20of%20Transportation%20Science.%20He%20is%20on%20the%20International%20Advisory%20Committee%20of%20the%20International%20Symposium%20on%20Transportation%20and%20Traffic%20Theory%2C%20and%20was%20a%20member%20of%20the%20Committee%20on%20Traffic%20Flow%20Theory%20and%20Characteristics%20of%20the%20Transportation%20Research%20Board%20from%202000%20to%202022.%20%20He%20obtained%20his%20PhD%20in%20Civil%20Engineering%20from%20UC%20Irvine%20in%201995%20and%20has%20taught%20at%20University%20of%20Iowa%20before%20moving%20to%20UC%20Davis.%20%0A&amp;location=HUB%20250%2C%20UW&amp;text=PacTrans%20Regional%20Seminar%20-%20Spring%202025\">Add
