{"id":9190,"date":"2020-08-19T11:16:32","date_gmt":"2020-08-19T18:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pandemicalliance\/?p=9190"},"modified":"2021-04-15T11:17:16","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T18:17:16","slug":"sars-cov-2-infection-among-community-health-workers-in-india-before-and-after-use-of-face-shields","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/pandemicalliance\/2020\/08\/19\/sars-cov-2-infection-among-community-health-workers-in-india-before-and-after-use-of-face-shields\/","title":{"rendered":"SARS-CoV-2 Infection Among Community Health Workers in India Before and After Use of Face Shields"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"34\" data-aria-posinset=\"2019\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fter the addition of face shields\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">as\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">personal protective<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0equipment,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0there were no reported infections among the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">50<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0community health workers<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(CHWs)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in India<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">assigned to counsel asymptomatic family contacts of patients who had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 at their\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">homes<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Before\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">implementing\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">face shields, 62\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CHWs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0visited 5<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">880 homes with 31<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">164 persons<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, among whom\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">222 persons tested positive for SARS-CoV-2\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">May 4 to May 13<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">During this period,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">12<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CHWs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0were infected<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">8<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0developed symptoms<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">4 were asymptomatic. After\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">implementing\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">face shields, 50\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">previously uninfected\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CHWs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0continued to provide counseling, visiting 18<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">228 homes. Among\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">those<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0counseled<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(n=<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">118<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">428<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">2<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">682 subsequently tested positive for SARS-CoV-2<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, while<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">o\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CHWs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0developed asymptomatic or symptomatic infection.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Bhaskar and Arun.
