BRIEF SUMMARY

Participants practice using the Low Protien Food List for PKU to calculate the phe content of foods and to plan meals.

 

OBJECTIVES

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • calculate the phe content of any meal using the Low Protein Food List for PKU
  • list the information needed about a food to be able to accurately look up the phe content (name of food, amount, method of preparation, brand)

 

METHODS

The purpose of this activity is for the participants to increase their familiarity with the Low Protein Food List for PKU. This is a VERY helpful tool for calculating the phe content of foods/meals. Using this resource ensures accuracy when determining how much phe you are eating.

Review the parts of the Low Protein Food List for PKU book with the participants, as well as the index. The index is a helpful tool to be able to quickly locate foods within the book.

Distribute the worksheet. Participants complete the worksheet individually. When they are finished, review the answers together.

What information about a food do you need to be able to accurately determine how much phe it contains? (name of the food, amount of food, method of preparation, brand)
