CONCEPT: Calculating Phe

 

BRIEF SUMMARY

Participants review a camp menu, calculate the phe content, and revise the menu to bring the phe content to 300 mg/day.

 

OBJECTIVES

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  • pre-plan daily menus that are within their own phe prescription
  • suggest changes in foods and/or portion sizes to correct food records that are too high or too low in phe

 

METHODS

Distribute the worksheet and a Food List to each participant. Review the instructions together. Participants complete the activity individually.

When completed, discuss their answers together. What type of menu revisions did the participants come up with? How were they similar? How were they different? Was it difficult to revise menus? What was one challenge?

If there is time, have the participants plan a day's menu to fit their phe prescription.

Work together with your young adult to plan a week of menus at home.
