Announcing the 2014-2015 Global Health Fellowship Application

The Medical Missionaries Global Health Fellowship 2014-2015 St. Joseph’s Clinic, Thomassique, Haiti Fellowship Description: Each year, two Fellows are placed at St. Joseph’s Clinic, located in Haiti’s Central Plateau. The Fellows act as liaisons between St. Joseph’s Clinic and Medical Missionaries, the Virginia-based organization that founded and supports the Clinic. Their responsibilities include serving as Medical Missionaries’ eyes and ears on the ground, helping coordinate the Clinic’s operations, and managing several health outreach programs involving community health workers, traditional birth assistants, mobile clinics, water purification, malnutrition, salt iodization, and education. Fellows work with doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, and lab technicians at the Clinic, as well as community leaders. They also have the opportunity to develop new initiatives to address needs in Thomassique or the outlying villages. The Fellowship is unpaid, but Fellowship-associated transportation and flight costs, housing and food expenses while in Haiti, and emergency evacuation insurance are covered by Medical Missionaries. Duration of Fellowship: June 2014 – June/July 2015 Eligibility and Qualifications: The Fellowship is open to recent college graduates (including those graduating in Spring 2014) and graduate students with an interest in global health. Although no specific prior experiences are required, strong applicants will have outstanding academic and extracurricular records, a demonstrated commitment to reducing health disparities worldwide, and some exposure to living or working in a resource poor setting. Conversational knowledge of French or Creole is a plus, but not required Fellows should be prepared to live in a rural, under-developed setting and should be in good health.
