Q Center resources for Students

The University of Washington Q Center has an advising program, staffed by Dr. Jen Self, Lor Anderson, an MSW Practicum Intern, Jaimée Marsh, Assistant Director, and James Keum, the Q Center’s Queer People of Color Advocate. The goal of our advising program is to provide students with safe and affirming spaces to talk and deal with the variety of concerns and challenges unique to queer, trans*, and questioning students. This year the Q Center celebrates 10 years of service to the University of Washington communities. It is through our partnerships across the campus, particularly with advisers, that we have been able to reach and serve queer, trans*, and questioning students in nearly every department on campus. We want to thank you for your support and encourage you to continue referring your students to the Q Center for advising, crisis counseling, advocacy, social space, support, fun, education, and just as another unit on campus that fosters student development. If your unit is interested, we are happy to visit a staff meeting and provide a short presentation to your work group regarding the Q Center and our many programmatic aspects, in particular our advising and mentoring programs. Along with facilitating the Queer People of Color Alliance and staffing the Q Center, James also provides drop-in hours at the Ethnic Cultural Center from 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesdays. Finally, we are offering two Q Center facilitated support groups, a Trans* & Queer Gender Support Group on Tuesdays from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Q Center and the Lavender Circle Support Group on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Q Center. For more information see below. Please email Lor at internuw@uw.eduinternuw@uw.edu> or call the Q Center at 206-897-1430 and ask for Lor, Jen, Jaimée, or James.
