Bachelor’s Degree in Health Informatics & Health Information Management

Technology is transforming health care, giving providers access to information that helps them deliver better and more cost-efficient care. With a Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics and Health Information Management from the University of Washington, you'll gain the skills needed to play a key role in this dynamic field.

In the UW HIHIM program, you'll learn how to manage the vast and ever-growing volume of health care data. You'll learn how to collect, analyze and protect patient records and other health information and how to develop and promote information technology solutions. And you'll learn how to use health information to advance goals such as improved health outcomes, patient safety and disease prevention.

Classes are taught by our expert faculty, which includes health informatics and information management professionals who are active in the industry today. The program is offered by the UW School of Public Health, which ranked 6th in the nation in a recent survey by U.S. News and World Report.

Meet the Growing Demand for Professionals in the Field

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that jobs for health services managers, which includes health information jobs, will grow by 23 percent between 2012 and 2022, making health services management one of the fastest-growing occupations. Graduates of the HIHIM program are qualified to work in a variety of in-demand roles, including as health information managers, data analysts, electronic health record implementation specialists, privacy specialists and compliance analysts.

Build Industry Connections & Gain Real-World Experience

The HIHIM program places a strong emphasis on practical experience. The final capstone project lets you apply what you've learned to a health information management challenge in the field. Through this hands-on experience, and others, such as our mentorship program, you'll develop your skills and build a valuable professional network as you prepare for your career in health information management.
